Hey, I realised I hadn't redone my pinned yet so I might as well now!

You can call me Noeflake, Noel, Noey, any sort of variation I don't really mind at all! I use He/Him (I'm transmasc) and am diagnosed with autism and inattentive ADHD.

I'm 19 and live in Aotearoa (New Zealand), so my timezone is a bit funky. Easiest way I find for most people to think about it is that we're roughly opposite of GMT but a day ahead due to the dateline. Time travel!

Currently I'm super into Project Hail Mary in terms of fandoms that are constantly on my mind and may materialise into actual fanworks someday (here's hoping!). This has expanded especially into the Coltland Twin crossover AU, which brings in Colt Seavers from The Fall Guy as Ryland Grace's twin. Actually, despite being mostly into PHM, many of my fic ideas are more Colt-centric. He and Jody are just both really endearing to me (as characters and as a couple)

I also maintain an interest in Pokémon, Zelda (specifically BotW/TotK), Undertale/Deltarune, Omori, The Owl House, and probably others I've forgotten.

I also am into South Park as a fandom space, but I don't post about it here. I know not everyone wants to see that. If you're interested, that is all on my sideblog, @noeflake-sp.

The other side blog I have is my Omori askblog, @faraway-sunshine, which contains major game spoilers and isn't currently active.

I'm not always active as I have just gotten back to university (majoring in creative writing) after a semester off, but I like this little corner of the internet and have fun with fan content. It's super neat to be able to connect with people that are just as silly about something as you are, after all!

Twins thought:

Colt did Miami Vice three shows a day, six days a week for three years (implying a live show). He said it was the 'first show' he ever did too, which makes me wonder if he did other live shows. Meaning he's not only been on screen.

Meaning I'm certain he's a theatre kid. Sure, he got discovered jumping off a roof by a local stuntman if we go by the extended cut, but come on. He's so theatre kid.

Imagine him in like high school or something and he has a show to do but on that one day he happens to be sick or hurt or in detention or something - so he calls in Ryland, who he forced to help him with rehearsals. Ryland's all like 'I'm not an actor!' and Colt's like 'you present in front of the class all the time in science this isn't any different!'

Meanwhile, Colt's actual understudy is right there ready to fill in-

there's so many things I want to write but for some reason the one in vivid detail is a pregnancy fic for Colt and Jody mostly in Jody's POV but also exploring Coltland twin esq angst, plenty of fluff, mobility aid using Colt and them having quietly married and moved to England (which actually mirrors Gosling irl. The England part. And potentially the marriage but Eva Mendes says they 'like to keep it mysterious'. Go girl!)

but it's like nobody would read it, right? It'd be too niche or something. Not PHM enough, but PHM enough to put off regular fall guy readers

Thinking more on Colt Seavers (Fall Guy) because there's no way he's okay after his movie. Even beforehand. He was running on pain pills, adrenaline and his simp heart and FUCKING CRASHED after I'm certain of it.

But I had this idea where afterwards, when he's definitely all battered and not doing another movie anytime soon if ever, he starts a YouTube channel.

It begins as like a reaction series, where he goes over clips from movies as well as social media videos of people doing dumb shit. Bringing in his own experience both as a professional stuntsman and as someone who's taken a lot of hits in his day. Explaining the risks and training you take, how often you might need to repeat a stunt, which things are easier or harder than they look, the importance of stunt co-ordinators (shout out to Dan he can guest star), that sort of thing.

As he establishes he expands the content a little. Q&As, sharing his own set stories, bringing on other people to interview or react with him. When he's eventually more comfortable he'll also talk more about his disability and do things like product reviews for physical therapy and wheelchair users (ambulatory wheelchair user Colt my beloved). Maybe a couple serious mental health ones or calls for sets to be better regulated. At some milestone (maybe a million subscribers) and once he gets lawyer clearance he'll tell the story of the movie's events too.

I have this strong visual of an early video where he goes OFF with complicated feelings on Jackass because they were inspiring to him but in hindsight the lack of professionalism is infuriating, and then like years later interviewing Johnny Knoxville and his commenters finding it hilarious.

And whenever his lovely wife is working on a new film he'll give her all the shoutouts. He gushes about her whenever he can. To the point where it's a part of his persona. And that gives him a Fucking Scare because a lot of 'wife guys' online actually turn out to be performative about it and either cheat on them or hurt them and he's scared he'll be like that even though it's all genuine.

On the one hand, part of what I find so impactful about Project Hail Mary (and The Martian as well) is that our protagonist wants to survive on his own rights. Not for a child or wife back home, for himself. And his life has value. Sure, he turns back for Rocky knowing he may die, but he still wants to live. It's just he wants to save Rocky and Erid more than that. The courage that takes, it felt real. I appreciated it heaps for that.

On the other hand, though...Colt is so twins with him and I love that angst.

It's a funny balance to maintain.

Okay, I got bitten by the Project Hail Mary bug. And again by the Coltland Twins AU bug (the one where Ryland is the identical twin of Colt Seavers, the protagonist of The Fall Guy). I could natter forever about my thoughts on this but many people have more eloquently.

So instead, my original contribution (with help from my friend pewpewkitty on Insta, who I commissioned) is this little guy. Because I can't resist making fankids, but don't ship Grace with anyone.

Don't worry if you don't know The Fall Guy because his character and story is very strongly shaped by Project Hail Mary's world as they deal with the fading sun while waiting for a miracle.

Hugo's parents are Colt Seavers and Jody Moreno (Colt and Jody are happily married here, but in my headcanon Seavers is only his stage surname he had to take because some nobody in SAG already had 'Colt Grace'). This makes Ryland Grace his uncle, though he was born long after Grace had left Earth. Hugo thrifted the shirt he has now because he thought it looked like a gift his uncle might have given him, judging from what he knows about him from Colt.

In a healthier world Hugo would have fostered his imagination from an early age into several graphic novels and an expansive interconnected fictional universe, but as it stands he doesn't put much thought or effort into what he may consider a 'worthless waste of time' now. Instead, he focuses on creating illustrated diaries, interviews and essays for future generations (or aliens) to read about.

Hugo is doubtful the Hail Mary worked considering it was a long shot in the first place and essentially won't let himself hope in case he gets disappointed; this project is a way for him to feel useful, focus on discovering the good left in the rapidly freezing world while it's still warm enough to support humans, and in general try and wrap his head around the idea of not getting as long a life as his parents do.

This greatly concerns Colt and Jody. Not only because they believe that the world will get better, but also because this makes Hugo withdraw so much. When Hugo isn't out doing interviews or taking photos he is holed up in his room, alternating between bursts of energy to work on the project and a complete deadweight exhaustion that swallows him otherwise.

He has few friends, no other ambitions, and in his quest to pre-emptively get over his grief has been spending time mourning the world he could be out enjoying.

Not to say Hugo doesn't enjoy his work. Whenever he meets a new special person to write the life story of, or sees someone else experiencing an activity or situation or moment that he hasn't himself, there's times where he forgets the 'work' of it all and just feels the secondhand joy and excitement from the top of his head to the tips of his toes.

He lives for those moments, and for the idea that maybe he can grant those moments to someone else through his writings.

All of this burden comes when he's not even a sophomore; kid has a lot on his shoulders.

Aesthetically he's a bit pale and his hair is slightly darker from no sun bleaching. I didn't want to figure out what clothes his generation would wear so I opted for him being into thrifting and 'retro' styles (note that despite his family living in California, it will be much colder than it is now).

He's shorter than his parents at the moment, not yet at the growth spurt party, but seems taller than his dad whenever Colt's having a bad chronic pain day and uses his wheelchair. 

He's also autistic. The hoodie strings have chewlery.

Heads up for CBC Book Club 📚

We finish Mediocre next week with the last two chapters. Which means, the next book up is Medical Apartheid by Harriet A. Washington!

We start reading that book on June 14th! If you don't have it yet, that's fine, this is a heads up so that you can start finding ways to obtain it by any means necessary!

Did a quick check, the book is on Internet Archive! There's a few different copies, this was just the highest hit one. I have print-disabled access, so I don't know if any of the copies are available for general access, but it's worth applying to see if you qualify for print-disabled access (when I did it I had to submit no paperwork or proof, so it's not privacy invasive at all!)

Internet Archive on regular access does unlimited hourly or sometimes 14-day loans depending on the title, while print-disabled defaults to 14-day loans even on titles that regular access doesn't offer.

It might be a bit clunky and it's not great on phones but for a free resource hub that doesn't have ads and lets you make bookmarks and notes it's pretty great!

I'm a little inclined towards giving Carol at least a bit of benefit of the doubt, just based on Toby's tendency to have no truly evil characters and give everyone a good deal of nuance. However, I do also hope that that vile-ness and intimidation already with her from her one scene only gets worse in later chapters, because that's going to make her so fun to deal with as an antagonist.

But yeah, agreed, Toriel and Carol at not even in the same league in terms of being a "bad parent."

Not at all, because I don't think that homophobia is a factor in why Carol dislikes Susie.
