As we rapidly approach the premiere of the 3rd season of Real Bros, I’d like to say a few words...
Much like all of you, I long for Wade and Aldis to fall in love and grow old together. Move into a nice apartment, get a dog. I long for their romance... or I’d like them to, at the very least, kiss. But sadly, I don’t have much hope.
My first impression of Jimmy and Christian was when Cody did a video with them on Jimmy’s channel back in 2016. It was part of a series called drunk questions, where they drink and read questions off their phones. Before Cody shows up, they are just talking and joking and it’s a lot of sports talk (ok not a lot but I don’t fucking watch sports so) and it’s chill. But a little while after Cody shows up, (at 9:04) they ask this question,
“Say you marry this woman, and after waiting to perform consummation until after marriage, obviously, it turns out she has a ween, what do you do?”
To sum up their responses:
Cody says, “Dude, stay with her, man.” and laughs.
Jimmy says, “persevere!” while laughing
Cody says, “Love is love my g.”
Jimmy says, “perseverance is key.”
Christian says, “if it’s a dude, you beat him up.”
and they laugh like it’s fucking funny.
I think Cody has matured a lot since then and I don’t think he’d find that “joke” funny now, but Christian was dead serious about it. He even wasn’t really laughing and that’s all I think about now when I see his face.
Cody has said that they didn’t intentionally write Wade as a gay/bi character, but that they can see what everyone is talking about. And I believe they wouldn’t intentionally queerbait, like they probably didn’t think of any of Aldis’ actions as being gay, more like that he was just eccentric and spiritual and it was funny. Which it was! But with the whole burning thing that piss pointed out was a perfect metaphor for wade being gay, didn’t come off as Aldis just being weird, it came off as them flirting. Cody now knows that. Jimmy now knows that. And Christian now knows that. I just find it highly unlikely that someone that reacted this way about finding out that his hypothetical wife had a penis, would kiss another boy, even when acting.
As much as I’d like to believe that they will do the LGBTQ+ fans right, by letting Wade and Aldis date, I just highly doubt it. Maybe they’ll surprise us, maybe they will, maybe they’ll bring a new guy in for Wade to date, maybe he’ll just find out he’s gay and it won’t be a big deal. That’s cool too! I just hope it’s something... More importantly, I hope Christian doesn’t feel this way anymore and realizes that that way of thinking is so incredibly dangerous. It’s scary, and I hope he knows that.
I hope this whole thing doesn’t come off as a call out post, cause that’s not what I intended. But after the second season aired I suddenly remembered this video that I hadn’t seen in 3 years and it made me feel worse about the whole thing and I needed to rant about it.
