evil.
i have taken to calling you my
“evil ex”
in passing conversation.
As amusing as this moniker is,
the reality is
your words held a malice
blanketed under many months of
trust
so when the knife-point went in,
it slithered between my ribs
carving out my heart
with
“toxic” and
“caustic”
making me doubt the elements
i felt sure i was made of.
when i’d returned
your jacket,
your keepsakes,
your letters
i held onto these words
turned them over
and over
til they were etched in the
corner of my heart where
you held a standing reservation.
the tables are empty now.
places set with salad forks
and wine glasses,
but abandoned before
being used.
like i have no use for
your words.
like i have no use for
you.
- your eviction has been served
