My night has been ruined, and I feel sick to my stomach. Several times before I have made posts about one of my Kurdish friends’ terrible life because her mother is a backwards freak - don’t care how bad that sounds - and her brothers are literally like dictators. She’s the only girl and her 3 older brothers have abused her physically and mentally her entire life. Her mother has also been extremely abusive, all in the name of the disgusting patriarchal and misogynistic aspects of Kurdish culture. I remember hating her brothers from the moment I met them. She was treated so unfairly and harshly by them.
Anyway, today my sister (her best friend) received a voicemail from her from an unfamiliar number. She sounded extremely sad and also scared. My sister called back. No answer. Finally her best friend called her back from this number again.
This girl’s brother, the worst brother of them all, is the manager at a restaurant here. Someone who works there showed him her Instagram photo of her and her boyfriend. Her brother texted her and asked “when are you gonna tell us about your boyfriend?” When she arrived home, he told her parents. The reaction was not pretty, to say the least. They are going to withdraw her from college and force her to work in a factory. All her belongings have been taken from her, and her family has access to her bank account. They took her debit card, they took her phone, and they don’t allow her to leave the living room at all. Since she’s a legal adult, she’s planning on “running away” because this is the last straw. I do not exaggerate when I say she has been a slave to her family since she was old enough to walk. Most frustrating of all, she brought up the fact that her brother also has a girlfriend and her mother simply said that she wants to go over to her house and get the woman to convert. The double standards are exhausting.
Thus, I have created this GoFundMe fundraiser because she is leaving with nothing but the clothes on her back. I am doing my best to help her out right now, but I cannot give her tens of thousands of dollars alone. So please please please, if you could just share this fundraiser on your social media accounts, reblog it here, and if you can donate anything (a quarter, a dollar, whatever you can afford), I will be indebted to you. I don’t want my fellow sister to be another victim of an honor killing.

She’s a friend of mine too, and she’s an incredibly smart person with so much potential that is held back by her family. She’s very very kind and doesn’t deserve anything that she has been through, and I would hate to see anything worse happen to her because of her family. She deserves an education and to live her life to the best she can and so she needs help!
