I'm happy that I was able to get an interview and chat with a band that had a big recent impact on me and was really influential on my music.  Heccra is a one man Chicago based band by Boo Heccra Hysb (real name is a mystery).  The music is a powerful yet fun blend of punk, hardcore, and screamo and its so technical its hard to believe it is a one man band.  I came across it through a friend and automatically I was hooked.  The music is fast, powerful, poppy, fun, and the lyrics are meaningful and can be helpful and easy to connect with for people in bad places.  In a nutshell, its all around art from the heart.  The following questions and answers have not been edited, what you see is what you get. Ducky: Whats your name and where are you from? Boo: My name is Boo Heccra Hysb. I never officially connect my real name and my pseudonym. There are a few people that know who I am though. I am from the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, which I generally just landmark as Chicago Illinois. Ducky: Whats the origin behind Heccra? Whats the deal with the name & how/when did you get started?

Boo: The name Heccra comes mostly from the corresponding English letters on a keyboard when Russia is typed on a Russian keyboard. It's heccrf, but I changed it to Heccra.  I got started around 3 years ago, I wanted to make music that wasn't in the same format as verse chorus verse music. Originally I set out to make surf/noise/horror punk music, but I wanted it to be fun. Ducky: What are your influences? What are you currently listening to? Boo: To begin with, I would say The Misfits, Dropdead, Totalitar, various other crust punk, Ween, Meshuggah, Wormrot, Electric Wizard, SunnO))), Beach Boys.that's what got me into White Eagle, Shortly after that I caught wind of Algernon Cadwallader and got on a huge emo binge I've always taken interest to smaller genres of black metal and similar though. I like the darkness that surrounds the music Ducky:.Wow, how the hell are we not bestfriends? Haha, do you digg on any Three One G artists or related artists (The Locust, Holy Molar, Head Wound City, Blood Brothers, Le Shok, Charles Bronson)? Boo: I actually have not heard much of the label, although I've been compared to Blood Brothers Ducky: That is what actually caught my attention the first time I heard your stuff.  I heard some Blood Brothers relation and automatically I was hooked. Any plans for anymore physical releases? (In all honesty i'd love to see Heccra-Kazooie on tape) Boo: I definitely plan to make more physical releases, probably not on CD though, and here's why: no one is going to buy a CD of something they can torrent. But if it's on tape, that's something special, something more. I'd ideally like to press everything to vinyl, but that's extremely expensive. So tape might be the way to go! Funeral Sounds has approached me about doing another batch of white eagle tapes. TLWOS and HK could follow. Ducky: I completely agree with that tape statement. The White Eagle tape was rad, glad to say I own one. you are a one man band, correct? Boo: Indeed I am.  I'm a one man everything, home recording and self producing. Ducky: Wow, being one myself I have to give you mad props on sounding so much like a full piece. In a whole its so technical and the mastering is so great. Any words on The Devil-Faces Of My Friends, Beneath Me? Boo: Thank you man. As far as DF goes, I will finish that record, even if it's the death of me. I am extremely disappointed in how long I have waited to work on it, and I am disappointed with Koala Bear, even after rerecording it. I think most of the tracks are great milestones for how much more complex I've become since White Eagle. I have plans to make a new mask, re-shoot the album artwork, and definitely get a functioning mobile studio so I can record whenever and get Devil Faces finished. Ducky: Favorite food? Boo: I really love expensive sushi rolls, and I have gotten the same thing at Chipotle and Panera for years.  Oh, of course pizza Ducky: Acceptable answer. Gotta have pizza in there. If you could punch any famous person in the face who would it be and why? Boo: That is a great question. let me think.  It's difficult for me to answer, since I try my best not to use my music to leverage any political agenda or whatnot. I'd say I'd go after the person who is most in charge of mass media. Ducky: Acceptable. Final question, One good reason why people should care about and/or listen to Heccra? Boo: No reason at all to make a persuasive argument! If you like it, then stick with it, it's rad music. If you don't like it, that's fine too. different strokes for different folks. My music is my self expression and I understand if someone doesn't care for it. All I try to do is make my music the best I can without setting limitations on myself. I offer to make music that's sonically overblown and saturated, and hopefully inspires others or gives them a sense of companionship in hard times; because I have suffered and felt pain, enough to cry at everything beautiful thing for the rest of my life and I would want to be there for anyone else who is hurting. I'm excited, I got to interview one of my favorite people in the scene.  If you haven't heard of Mr. Kitty than you need to take a step back and FUCK YOUR OWN FACE! Mr. Kitty is well know for his dark synth-pop tunes and his own style that goes with it.  since 2003 hes been producing music and since then his fan base and sound has grown.  This interview was done through email, unfortunately,  but it still gave me a chance to get a peek inside his head.  The following questions and answers have not been edited, what you see is what you get. Ducky: What's your name and where are you from? Forrest: "My name is Forrest and I'm currently living in Dallas, TX" Ducky: You are well known as Mr. Kitty. Can you give us a brief history on your music? Is there any other current or past projects you are or were in? Forrest: "I started making music with some friends in 2003. It was a bunch of noise mixed with trance. They didn't want to do it anymore, but I kept on with it. I started Mr.Kitty in 2005 because I had a lot of material, but no name to release it under. I did IDM/Breakcore until 2010 and then started to do more synth-pop oriented music. My only other project is "Echo Strobes", which is now defunct." Ducky: Who/what influences your music? Forrest: "Post-punk, anime, and death." Ducky: I've been dying to play a show with you, do you have any good show stories?  Forrest: "During SXSW 2013, I played a show in someone's living room that was like, eight feet by six feet. There were about 45-50 people crammed into this tiny space just to see me play out of one PA speaker with all of my equipment on a dresser. It was total chaos and there was hot as fuck. I also drank half a bottle of vodka before I played, so there are parts that I don't remember." Ducky: What line-up was your favorite so far? Forrest: "All of the shows that I have played with Ritualz have been awesome. That guy is great!" Ducky: Is there any artists you wanna meet or play a show with in the future? Forrest: "I really want to play a show with The Knife." Ducky: What's the next Mr. Kitty release looking like so far? Forrest: "I don't really want to reveal too much about it, but if you liked 'D E A T H', then you'll like this one." Ducky: Favorite venue to play at? Forrest: "I don't really have a favorite. I do like playing at houses though." Ducky: Favorite food? Forrest: "Pizza is my religion." Ducky: Are you on a record label at the moment? Forrest: "At the moment, no. I really wish I could be signed to 4AD." Ducky: Do you have one song in particular that you wrote that you find to be really personal? Forrest: "The song 'Modern Romance' has a lot of memories behind it. I get really emotional when I play it. Sometimes, it's a little overwhelming." Ducky: What are you currently listening to? Forrest: "I recently rediscovered "The Knife", so I've been digging that. Also, a lot of Depeche Mode and 90s eurodance as well." Ducky: Shout outs? Forrest: "#shoutout to William of Count Backwards. He'll be helping with my next music video. Also, #shoutout to Kim Laughton at TIMEFLY for making some awesome next-level, clothing." Ducky: One good reason why people should care about or listen to Mr. Kitty? Forrest: "I'm making music not only for myself, but for people that have also been through or are experiencing what I have. If I can make a mutual connection with anyone through past experiences or make someone feel better with what I've created, then I am satisfied."

I had the chance to interview a friend of mine who is responsible for //†▲▲▲▲▲†\\ (Haunted Houses), a really cool witch-house/dream-pop project and of course he is half of the ultra-rad digi-grind project ZombieShark!. He is also the artist behind the artwork for The Strange Days - I Killed Techno! // ZOMBIESHARK! split & Fuck Net Splits - I Killed Techno! // RedSK split. The following questions and answers have not been edited, what you see is what you get.

Ducky: Whats your name and where are you from?

Cory: Cory Swope from Reading, PA

Ducky: Welcome, to my knowledge you are in a witch-house project as well as a digi-grind project. can we get some info and a short history on the two?

Cory: weeeeel there were a lot of failed projects before the main one (ZOMBIESHARK!) such as FIRE! in the house of agustine, I take acid with pink rhino, mybeartrapsmile, ect. ZS was the only one that i could constantly make music for and be happy with... the actual ZS launch happened in the end of 2010, there was a 4 song ep that was made on garage band, my friend Lee at the time was on backing vocals until time constrains...it was then upon getting my first job that i met my best friend Ryan and thus In the court of the shark king was born and from there its been magic... as for the witch house....that was more of a creative outlet/dumping ground for everything in-between ZS albums...basically i just love music and want to experiment with all sounds.

Ducky: I personally am a fan of your witch-house material and a big fan of ZS. Who/what influenced you and Ryan when it came to writing songs?

Cory: Thank you sir, as for inspiration....we take it from a lot of aspects....more less what we're both listening to at the time...a lot of math core/death/grind elements..then we just slap it down with some happy 8 bit melodies.

Ducky: A lot of people tend to not focus on lyrics and instead write off most digi-grind bands as typical 'Nintendocore'. Do you guys put meaning or thought into your lyrics?

Cory: Our songs didn't start having meaning until A sinking ship... Ryan tends to write most of our lyrics and he writes with such passion...a lot of the songs on A sinking ship have a very deep sentimental value. every song off that album was about something critical that happened in both our lives during that summer, we're gonna need a bigger raft, car crash, and A sinking ship are the most sentimental to me...same goes for Bridge burner, not a single song on that album isn't serious in some way...even rule #5, that album was basically our anthem to how much people suck were we live...which was also kind of sad because its the last album we wrote before Ryan started his career and me going to college. The two secret tracks at the end sort of sum the whole departure thing up.

Ducky: Bridge Burner & A Sinking Ship were my two favorites. That was good work, in my opinion. Have you guys played any live shows? if so do you have any interesting stories?

Cory: Unfortunately we have only ever played one show..and we opened for our friends band A Scent Like Wolves in the basement of the guitarist house, it was huge flop because no one showed up but there are better venues where I'm at now in Delaware so we might try and hook some shows up..we might have a couple this summer so we'll see.

Ducky: yeah I've had my fair share of show flops but at the end of the day its about having fun even if you're playing to two people.

Cory: Agreed

Ducky: Any bands you'd wanna play a show with or any artists you'd like to meet?

Cory: I always wanted to have a show with I Killed Techno!, that guy is a straight baller , id really wanna do a show with Bubblegum Octopus, or Dental Work...probably Vernal Equinox too...basically anyone, doesn't matter to me.

it'd be mad cool to do a reunion show with Heavy Heavy Low Low

that would be a dream come true.

Ducky: Favorite food? (any answer other than pizza is invalid)

Cory: Tacos for days

Ducky: I will accept that cos tacos are great. Shout outs?

Cory: Because we care about what we write and care more about the people who listen.

So I caught up with my homeboy Pory who runs NOG Records and preforms and records noise under the name of Seagulls Fucking Seagulls. If you havent heard of either pull your head out of your ass and get on that shit fuckah! The following questions and answers have not been edited, what you see is what you get.

Ducky: Whats your name? Where are you from?

Pory: Pory Nog from Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Ducky: So you run NOG Records and you are in the noise project Seagulls Fucking Seagulls. Tell me about the label and Seagulls Fucking Seagulls.

Pory: Well NOG Records actually started as a joke, but people told me I should actually do it, so I gave it a shot. Initially started as a label with tons of variety. But overtime it's evolved into a generally noise and chiptune subgenre oriented label (with some other random acts here and there), as of September 2013, it became a physical label (though a CD-R release has been out since April or so), primarily cassettes with plans to do mini CD-R and possibly an 8 track release if I can get the technology to work in my favor haha.

I formed SFS in July 2012. I had been doing KANGASKHAN'SBABY aka the worst project of all time (tape compilation of the discography on NOG). Over the years I gradually got more and more into noise, and got to the point where I wanted to try doing it. Eventually I pirated FL, and made music on there. First few releases use FL, though they sound terrible because I was just starting off. But then I discovered Audacity and used that for the next few releases until I acquired pedals and instruments. Now my rig consists of 8 or so various pedals and I switch it up a lot, though I primarily use contact mics now. At live shows I specialize in ear-fucking people and destroying things (often scaring large percentages of the crowd away)

Ducky: Who or what influences the type of music or noise that you make?

Pory: Initially I was inspired by then-friend Blue Slime, though he like hates me now so that's our little secret. Over time I've been inspired by other acts I've shared the stage with including Crank Sturgeon, PCRV, Nequam Sonitus, c@, etc. Especially Crank and Nequam, their performances and general style have made a huge impact on my live performances and crafting my own style, which I'm still trying to do. I'd say the whole soloist thing was inspired by Patrick of Redsk, he told me even before KB was a thing that I should just do solo projects because forming full bands is a pain in the ass, and I never forgot that. (Plus his noise is pretty damn good too)

Ducky: Shout out to PatSK for being a badass motherfucker! Any artists that you want to meet or play a show with in the future?

Pory: Well I'm hoping to tour with Micah (probably EXTERNAL, but we still aren't sure), pretty much every artist I've played with before I'd more than love to play with again. Some of the big ones are you of course, Corvid Canine, RedSK, Jason "EVIL" Covelli, Mental Crutch, Bubblegum Octopus (though I have shared the stage with c@ - on one of only 3 shows ever played by that project!), Dental Work, Crochetcatpause, Watabou, to name a few, but I'd love to play with as many people as remotely possible, it's always nice to meet new friends at shows you're playing!

Ducky: word up, do you have an interesting show story you'd like to share?

Pory: Well I jokingly handed in a demo to my old high school last year to play in the battle of the bands, and I actually got in. I played a like 7 minute set and flipped my table over and left. People were so scared, literally half of the crowd went outside when I started playing (and it was pouring outside) and by the end of my set 3/4 were gone. People are 2scared4noise. I ended up losing the battle of the bands big time to a bunch of cover bands. Also my first show was a bad set where I played the shit venue in my area and they accidentally booked me with the Radio Disney band, Kicking Daisies. At least the high school gig was fun though.

Ducky: The ongoing struggle of getting more people to be more open minded when it comes to noise. What are you currently listening to?

Pory: Lately a lot of Melt-Banana (the new album is amazing), Powercup, Lightning Bolt, Boris. Iron Butterfly, of course. My favorite project currently is probably Bubblegum Octopus (though it's my favorite pretty often).

Ducky: Favorite food? (if your answer is anything other than pizza your answer is invalid).

Pory: Pizza, though tacos are up there too haha.

Ducky: Good answer, yes tacos are fucking great! Fucking bistec tacos with a cup of frijoles and a fucking loaded papa! yo shouts to fucking Taqueria El Zarape! Now back to the questions. If a bear takes a shit in the woods and no one is around to see it does it wipe its ass?

Pory: Well I've seen enough Charmin commercials to 100% with confidence say, yes. They're very serious about toilet paper.

Ducky: Very true. Now on a more serious note whats in store for NOG Records?

Pory: Lotsa releases to come, including releases by I Killed Techno!, as you know aha. EXTERNAL, Dubious Disc, SFS, as well as a bunch of others coming up. Lots of tapes, could all be released by the end of 2013 even, depending on if I acquire a job / funds, or how well tapes sell and such. I'm excited to see what comes of it.

Ducky: As am I. If you're reading this BUY MORE TAPES! any shout outs?

So I decided to interview an artist who was recommended by a friend. I got with him through Facebook IM and asked him some questions. *Note* for those of you like myself who are into early emo/screamo and are unaware 'Skramz' is pretty much what Screamo is being called now. The following questions and answers have not been edited, what you see is what you get.

Ducky: Whats your name? where are you from? and record label you are on?

Micah: Micah Jordan, Henderson, Kentucky, NOG Records

Ducky: alright, so tell me a little about your musical background and what band/projects you're in.

Micah: Alright, well I started out my musical endeavors doing vocals shortly after finding out about deathcore, and after doing dirty vocals for about 2 years I found chiptune, and searched for ways to make it, leading me to purchase an LSDJ cart and a custom GB that's backlit and prosounded. EXTERNAL was my 1st real music project, and one of my main projects, under that name i make chiptune. I formed a nescore band called Rambo Hates Rainbows shortly after with a good friend of mine, Adam Smith. We released an EP and changed to just being whatever we want instead of just nescore. I joined a melodic metalcore band on drums called Defeat & Define, which split up after writing only 2 songs and recording a single. I'm in a skramz band right now called They Are The Motion, with a name change coming soon, and 2 more skramz projects, both 2 pieces, one called We All Hope For Happiness In A Sad, Sad World, and the other, My Life With You, My Life Without You. I'm in a project of random electronic/cyber stuff called Micahcore. I do vocals and songwriting in a cybergrind band called The Third Strongest Mole. I have other unannounced projects also, that are working on music and getting releases going. But currently, the main reason I write music is to cope with mental problems and depression, which is why i've ended up in 3 skramz bands, so i know put all i have into the music i write.

Ducky: Who and/or what are your influences for music writing at the moment?

Micah: Currently, I take influence musically for skramz from Old Gray, Pianos Become The Teeth, and Ugly Cuts. I take metal vocal influence from Jonathan Huber, drumming influences from Alexgrind and Lord Marco, and a general drive to write music from just being depressed a lot and not knowing what else to do with myself.

Ducky: Have you played any live shows? If so do you have any interesting stories you'd like to share?

Micah: I've played 2 shows so far with They Are The Motion, and all I can say is it's a really fun experience, and in the future we plan to speed up our music and get sadder so we can put on a realer show that show's what we put into the music. Also, TATM's name is most likely changing to "So Much For Bestfriends".

Ducky: Favorite band? what are you currently listening to?

Micah: Can't say I have a favorite band, but right now one of my favorite bands is Old Gray, which happens to be who I am currently listening to.

Ducky: Are there any artists that you would like to meet in person or possibly play a show with someday?

Micah: I'd like to play show's with Old Problems, Ugly Cuts, Atalanta, and Old Gray one of these days.

Ducky: Whats your favorite food? (if the answer is anything other than pizza then your answer is invalid).

Micah: Well it'd be Lasagna actually but pizza is 2nd!

Ducky: Good answer, nice save. One reason why people should listen to your music?

Micah: Well, I think it's their choice honestly. I write the music for myself because life is a hard time and I need a way to cope. If people want to check it out and hear the music of someone who puts their all into it, then they should check out my music. Well, most of it anyways.

Ducky: Shout outs?

Micah: Big shout out to Pory for being here for me through a shitload and always being a great friend, and a big shout out to Dylan Hines for being the reason I finally decided to pursue skramz.

After a long journey of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks I Killed Techno! came out alive (thankfully) and took sometime off to clear his head.  He ended up getting trashed at the beach and after taking in some new influences this album is what came to be.  The name pretty much says it all.  The album is filled with upbeat tunes, to fast songs, to angry and depressing lyrics, and a cover song by Wavves.  If youre looking for something happy go look somewhere else but if youre looking to spazz out and jam this is for you! For those who helped during those dark times as well as after, Thank you for keeping me alive.
