Growing up in the 2000s and 2010s, I had no clue that malls in America were on the decline because the only mall near me was La Plaza Mall in south Texas. This mall has been flourishing and gaining expansions throughout its lifetime, showing no signs of slowing down thanks to business from Mexicans on the other side of the border who come over daily to shop. It is an extremely rare sight to see a mall in the 2020s still filling out entire parking lots, but this mall does effortlessly and it's mostly thanks to our neighbors across the border keeping it alive. 💖

Hoover’s Paradise Motel in McAllen, Texas, seen here in the 1960′s, 2011, 2015 & 2017. It once boasted 45 rooms, a restaurant, a pool and “the most beautiful landscape grounds in all of South Texas.” In recent years, it was used as a dress shop and an art studio before becoming abandoned and eventually, demolished. Today, only a few palm trees remain in paradise.
