A young Relius during the Bloodedge Experience series.
& vice.
IF he truly had been basking in the presence of a King, surely the vessel would have felt the urge to put up a pretense of false awe and courtesy just for amusement’s sake. Fortunately for him, he was merely in the immediate company of his long-time colleague; their exchanges were, as always, crafted carefully despite how they would have looked to any outsider – full of sarcastic jeering that often aimed to match the air of blunt dismissal from the other.
“So cold, Colonel… and after all the hardships and trials we’ve been through together? That really gets me… right here, you know?” A humble look perfectly complimented the touch of smugness in tone as fingertips glided and lingered slowly across his chest – presumably over where the serpent’s heart should be, of course. Or whatever was fitted in its place. Yellow hues flitted quickly over the abandoned novel’s title as he sought to change the subject – it’d be a waste to lose the hard-earned attention he’d so tirelessly aimed to gain.
SUBTLY did he close the distance between them as he dusted off the lonely tome, clucking his tongue in mock scolding to follow-up his precious comment. Hazama stopped a footstep or two from the taller man, nearly stepping on that maroon mantle ever gracing the back of the mad scientist.
“Ahh, most everyone’s just so damn trusting ‘round here, that’s all. But, anyway… let’s not waste time chatting about the common vermin now that we’ve reunited, shall we? I’ve got… an interesting proposal for you. Or rather, a request. For a favor – one that’ll be sure to bring some joy into your droll routine here… unless you’re actually enjoying the little role of librarian. Heh.”
His attention was hard to lose, because despite the overabundance of filler, his colleague often had something worth saying in the end. And he’d never admit it, but coming across him was something of a boon. This city absolutely could not be trusted, even if the Colonel’s willingness to put faith in anything but himself was notoriously low. Coming across someone he not only recognized but had worked with was fortunate.
He regarded the other with what could be interpreted as cold contempt -- his default expression. Thus far, Hazama had not been acting out of the ordinary. He was talkative, of course, and willing to invade his personal space. His eyes never left him though, as he anticipated anything sudden that could happen next. He had to agree with his comment about the populous, especially since he had yet to meet anyone worth his time. At first glance, they all seemed beneath him.
He let silence settle between them before he answered the other.
“I’ll be honest with you, Hazama, part of me is undoubtedly skeptical of what you have to say, however,” his gaze flowed across the nigh abandoned space, “given the current situation, one might argue I have little choice. I’ll tell you now that I have my own goals and questions I want answered. However, I trust you to have come up with something equally interesting.”
& vice.
WHILE a tight smile usually curled the snake’s lips in candid amusement, for now, his features displayed only mild interest in his immediate surroundings as far as the normal citizenry went, information gathering being his highest priority as it were. With hands tucked snugly into pockets would he roam into the seemingly vacant library; a carapace that would’ve contained a wealth of knowledge if it maintained any semblance of normalcy. Though upon entering would he shortly realize that counters were dust-stricken and employees were few and far between, nuggets of education tossed here and there on lonely shelves and floor.
ALL-IN-ALL the conditions were, frankly put, disgusting to behold; a haven for those who sought solace within pages and pages of knowledge now taking the appearance of an establishment post-disaster. A shame, really. And as he made to leave and dismiss anything that would ultimately waste his time, the man happened to notice (unfortunately) an acquaintance who he pictured as not even paying any mind to the poor condition of the estate – not even if a whole shelf were to clock him on the head. It was just hard not to miss the unmistakable sight of the very man who’d forged him; brought his actual form into creation as it were. A strange taste of fate, a lucky turn of the dice; Hazama couldn’t help but feel intrigued as to whatever they were so incessantly investigating.
BUT then again, he had been standing there for several minutes now, constant whining and rambling clearly being drowned out by whatever had a firm grip on the tall blonde’s attention, for as always the mask he wore so needlessly hid his gaze from scrutiny.
“Colonel? … Colonel Relius? Hellooo in there? – …you aren’t listening to me, are you… ahh, well, I suppose that doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Not sure what I was expecting, really.”
The nature of the soul.
The value of the soul.
How this city treated the qualitative data the soul possessed.
The puppeteer sought all information on these ideas, and he would have them no matter what his location. Kidnapped from his home, stripped of his powers, but not bereft of his mind, Relius could still find a purpose to this place. This prison had meaning etched into its walls, meaning he would most certainly translate. His research could be furthered even now.
It had been quite some time since he’d had to use books to gain information, but being stripped of most other means left him with little choice. He could likely hack into their system given a long period of time and the right resources, but the properties of this container were such that his faith in his own skills was shaken ever so slightly. Although, given how vague the material he read was, he may have to resort to such a tactic anyway.
A voice snapped his mind from its mechanical memorization to reality. Him. The Colonel had not exactly expected to meet him so quickly, but as fate had tore him from the seems of his rightful place in the universe it might as well present him with the serpent too. And it certainly was the snake -- immediately after his first few lines were out Relius found he had very little to say at all. Simple “pleasantries” from a man who adored the sound of his own voice. After letting the other flap his gums, Relius sighed, closing the tome in front of him and finally granting a response.
“You ought to know by now that it is sometimes preferable to drown you out.” He put bluntly, voice flat as though they weren’t in a completely new location. As though they were still in an NOL office with paperwork to do. As though this was one of the normal meetings he held with his creation and cohort. “Far too often you talk much but say nothing. Never mind that though.” He rose from his chair, not unlike a king with his fluid majesty.
“Hazama, it’s been a while. It seems as though you’ve been adapting to our new environment well enough.”
Ah yes, his birthday. It hardly mattered to him anymore - it wasn’t as though anyone gave him anything and he didn’t feel the need to share it - and yet that man had given him an almost meaningful card. Had he even told him his birthday? He must have, else this “gift” wouldn’t have come. A smirk graced his features.
“You’re not supposed to be capable of forming truly positive opinions of anyone,” he mused aloud. Now, how would Hazama react to receiving a thank you card in return...?
"Are you in love with Relius then? I heard he a GREAT family man."

“Hmm? This man...” He mumbled to himself, interest piqued. He raised a hand to rub his chin. His focus was solely on this new face, despite him looking quite plain.
“... He’s clearly human and yet... how odd...” He continued to mutter and whisper, not caring if the other heard.
Commanding words that first froze Butters in his place, and then finally forced him to turn and face the voice behind them. Butters bunched his shoulders up defensively, knuckles raising and knocking together habitually, sight suddenly flooded with the presence of a large masked man.
“S… sorry, sir… “ He was quick to step aside, allowing room for the stranger to pass through.
“Um… cognizant?” He couldn’t help but ask for the meaning of the word, despite the fear seizing him at the moment.
At the very least, this boy had some semblance of manners. He knew his place: subservient to those older than him. It was partially due to this that Relius didn’t mind answering his question, even if it was a foolish one.
“Fully informed. Conscious. Aware.” He shook his head. “It’s a basic word, honestly. Either your school system or parents should have taught it to you by now.”

Children were nuisances. They occasionally possessed impressive souls, but most if not all the time, they only served to get in his way. Like this one, now. So improperly placed in front of an entrance he needed to go through, ogling at this or that. Even his own son was not so uncultured. He’d have to discipline him.
“You. Boy,” his words were low, yet firm, “are you purposefully attempting to inconvenience everyone? At least try to be more cognizant of your surroundings.”
new world order. [HAZAMA]
Had he expected anything other than a bold move from him?
Surely not, or that would have been the case had he expected him at all. Relius was still ascertaining the nature of this place, its rules and physics. This anomaly of a city, set centuries before his time, was worth the utmost scrutiny, but he’d have to put his inspection on pause.
The announcement, like a personal call. Like he was singled out, beckoned one could say.
It was time to ferret out the snake.
An impressive facility, reminiscent of Hierarchical City peaks. He half expected to see gilded goddess statues and ars-powered chandeliers, details that would evoke his home world. No doubt he of all people would not decorate in such a manner though. Such a thing was unnecessary when the setting already struck awe into all who laid eye upon it. The expanse of the building alone was enough to impress him, but to be set in the air as well... The scientist couldn’t help but crack a smile. They’d have much to talk about indeed.
At the end of the overly drawn out hall lay a pair of elegant wooden doors, yet another detail that reminded him of the Librarium so far away now. Stately, impressively, they stood as a reminder of the weighted rank the one behind them held. Second in command though? That was another piece of information they’d have to go over.
Simply entering his domain was folly; heaven knew what kind of defenses he had in place. A gloved hand was raised... and three spaced knocks were dealt on the threshold.

He possessed keen, analyzing mind, one that never stopped taking in data. He was bombarded with it now, heaps and fountains of stimuli beckoning to him, forcing themselves into his He needed to separate the wheat from the chaff.
His focus fell on a girl not far from him. She was different from the others, for better or for worse. She wasn’t the first he’d laid his eyes on that day, and she wouldn’t be the last.
“Hmm... an anomaly, perhaps... No, likely nothing out of the ordinary. Common,” he mused aloud, not caring if she heard him. “Perhaps even vulgar. How unfortunate...”
Well then, let’s get the ball rolling. Like this post for a starter with a totally harmless, completely morally upright, and absolutely not mentally unhinged science guy. I’ll cap at three, but castmates are exempt.
