I'm working on my next chapter for Every Beautiful Thing after a long hiatus. The last time I posted was the month I started the job where I just handed in my notice. I wouldn't have put two and two together on my own, but it makes sense.

While I don't regret accepting the position, it's been a bad fit for a variety of reasons (which I won't go into here), but mainly it comes from me spending most of my adult life working in libraries, and working on the vendor side of things was a big change.

Since graduating college, I have never handed in my resignation without having another job lined up. I know I'm fortunate that I can do that, and I'm glad I can take a few months to decide what I want to do next, whether that's back to libraries or working with older adults or maybe finding work with a museum or nonprofit.

I'm looking forward to the summer. I want to write (I've written every day for the last four days and I've missed it) and embroider and cook and walk my brother's dog and take my daughter to her dance class in downtown Chicago and grab some Intelligentsia coffee and read and clean out my kitchen cabinets and organize my office.

And when I'm at my new job, I won't let it prevent me from writing for nine months.
