KEIPS8K Trade Stand - Tesco Meet 2016

Corey was approached earlier this year if he would be interested in hosting a trade stand at the ‘Lavish Life Tesco Meet’. He accepted however later realised he was on tour with his band for that weekend. We didn’t want to miss out the opportunity to meet some new people, get the brands name out, and sell some merch. The rest of the team came out to support. 

Stickers sold well, even managed to sell a NSL one, super stoked!

All in all we had a fun night. Got the chance to meet lots of new faces & hopefully do another one in the future.

EC9 Project / Pt.3

Small diet & sad good byes...

Earlier on this week Corey came out to help me strip the inside. I want a fine balance between luxury up front & race car at the rear. It might all change in the future. I have bagged and labelled all bolts & clips, just encase I want to install it all back in.

After a quick hoover & a bit of elbow grease, it now looks slightly better than this picture. I am going to order freezer spray to get the last of the sounding out. I’m looking to move the battery and a couple other bits into the rear.

Goodbye old friend...

I had to say farewell to ‘Nina’ the EJ9 this week. It was the first Honda I’ve ever owned and opened a whole new hobby to me & the opportunity to make a new group of friends.

It was a rush from when I got home on Tuesday, to have a shower, cook tea and be ready for the hopeful sale. As per normal, just as I had put my potatoes in the oven and heated the oil up for my steak, I could hear a Honda at the end of the road... The buyer got a lift from his friend who turned up in a EG, so that was a great surprise. Corey from @keips8k turned up, so we ended up having a Honda Convention Oct 2016 in Crediton.

I hoped she is looked after well.  The buyer had ideas to engine swap. So look out for that ej9 in the future.

EC9 Project / Pt.2

 A night of Fires & Spitfires......

After changing the CRX Sawblades out for the set of Jordan’s. We noticed a classic Honda problem... Rust holes in the rear offside arch. Fortunately Alex is a great friend and offered to fix them up for me. 

Alex’s unit is a rad little setup. Perfect for what you need, electric, water, wifi & even a toilet block. (which for anyone who knows me is a good thing to have at a unit.) He moved his Polo out to make room for the Honda, which was going to need some doctoring. Before we started I saw a sight that I never thought I was see in person. A spitfire dive bombing over the fields, lifting up for a loop-de-loop and then continuing his stunts with a barrel roll. The sound of these engines are incredible but also kind of haunting.

We made a hole.... and then another hole... My Honda dream build was slowly falling away to a screwdriver. The only way I could describe it would be a medieval claymore sword making it’s way through a block of cheese. “Messy and impractical!”

A wing from a VW was used as a donor material to patch up the holes & sills.

After some welding, it was looking great. A different sound now resonated when we tapped the body, rather than the screwdriver just busting through!

Whilst Alex was welding, Apart from stepping outside to reduce the chance of arc-eye (My eyes were like a moth’s to a light bulb). I decided to quickly pop to the toilet. Upon returning the instant smell of burning hit my senses. Smoke slowly leaving the unit, and now a hole in the floor mat. Turns out the anti rust treatment we used is highly flammable. Maybe welding so close was not the best of ideas... But gave myself, Alex & Morrish a laugh.

We also found some time just to quickly sand & primer small rust spots on the door. Meet Mr Smiley Face.

EC9 Project / Pt.1

I have been wanting a 4th generation shape now for quite some time. So when this one came up for sale in Birmingham I knew I would have it. In total it was a 10 hour round trip... Took us nearly 7 hours to reach Birmingham. TIP:- Don’t attempt to drive up country on the last Friday of the summer holidays. We finally arrived, and I took it for a test drive. It drove great for a little 1.4 auto. We exchanged money after an Alex inspection and headed home. I had my nerves about driving a car I had just bought (with a can of Easy start, already in the glove box) back the 3 hours it would take to get home. However it handled great, and got home without a hitch... be it nearly midnight on a worknight. I can’t thank Alex enough for going out of his way to take me up in the skid machine. (Still owe you a working hydro brake!)

Skip ahead a couple days after the purchase, The only work we’ve done on it. is changed over the wheels to the Jordans for the meantime, and changed the cassette deck out. Driving without spotify/IPOD was driving me crazy! I had plans to convert the tape deck into a AUX machine, but it’s been a pain in the ass. So I took the easy option and took the working bluetooth/aux out of my EJ9.

I have a very... very... very long list of jobs to do on this car. However I can’t wait to start the journey and to be able to document the entire project from start to finish.

Caddy Restoration

Recently our good friend Nathan acquired himself a new project build for 2016.

VW Caddy mk1 1986 (c reg) 1.6 diesel

Nathan had been looking for a small while before finding this one. The diesel pump is currently shot. It runs but doesn't rev. So there is a small amount of work to do on the engine. But his attention is really focused on fixing the dreaded rust patches and appearance. 

Looking like a track car inside the cab at the moment.

Nathan’s plan for the rear is to deck it out in wood, for a nice clean finish.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how this build turns out. Mk1 Caddys can look super sick, whilst remaining factory stock.

Big Bertha update

As the next drift day is getting nearer, Lewis is working solidly on getting this BMW engine swap completed. After a bit of trouble with head bolts..........  It is now starting to look quite solid & hopefully dropped in by the end of this coming week.

When the threads went for the second time, meaning another new pack of head bolts.

His current chassis is sat awaiting the ‘mating ritual’ of Big Bertha.

If all goes to plan, Lewis will be able to attend Zoyland this Saturday & hopefully have a video produced featuring the new and improved Beamer.

The birth of Big Bertha

11:30am -

 “You still coming Marv, I’m going to be down overflow to wait at 12:30.”

So I got in my trusty civic, met up with Lewis and we headed off to his unit for what I thought would be basic cleanup duties, but actually entailed taking an entire engine out.

After an initial clean up of the workshop, we got started on being what can only be described as midwives to Big Bertha.

This is Big Bertha a 2.5L (m52b25). A huge lump of a e36 323i

After the initial inspection, we got around to pulling off the wiper blade as one of the other unit owners wanted the plastic trim for his BMW project. It was being stubborn as hell and not even budging when we used the clamp tool. This resulted in a hammer & swan necks to come into play. However after it took Lewis to stand on the engine and pull with all his might, we gave up...... but then, as if by magic, we put the tool down and the wiper just popped off.

With the blades off, we could start on disconnecting the rest of the loom as well as disconnecting the ECU. The ECU is getting sent off to add a bit more skids, so we had to be careful with that chestnut. After we had checked it was all unattached several times, Lewis got me to build the engine crane whilst he drained the last remaining fluid from the fuel pipes. However all I could hear was Lewis from under the car shouting “Turn the GAS heater off”. A naked flame gas heater & fuel vapours don’t mix well apparently. Safety first!

Lewis finally loosened the engine mounts and operation “Birth to Bertha” could commence.

Lewis’s ingenious solution to lifting large amounts of weight.... Seat belts.

Big Bertha came out with relative ease. Only needed a jimmy bar with a small amount of effort to get the back end over the strut.

Time : 16:00 - Weight : Severeal hundred kilos - Name : Big Bertha

A happy chappy with his double bhp engine ready for the swap into his E36 to replace the stock 1.6L in a couple of weeks.

All in all, a fun and unexpected day. Sometimes not having any plans can turn into quite a good day.
