Two Years Later | Cheren and Hilbert
♢ - Frustration.
He tapped his foot thrice, waiting for Black to say something, anything. Cheren could only imagine what half-hearted excuses would pass through the other’s lips now. Through his spectacles, he watched Black swallow, and then finally breathe a slow sigh. The Gym Leader waits, and waits, and waits. There was a brief silence between them, and for a minute Cheren believed that Black was going to snap back at him.
The normal-type specialist felt something strange come over him. It was another emotion: guilt. It occurred to him at that point that perhaps, Black had been in trouble. Perhaps he had gone through tough times. Had he made things worse? No, Cheren began to convince himself that he was in the right here— he should remain angry.

Alright! Score a victory for the Hilbster, because impressing kids was all part of a hero’s job. That, and he had about five years of experience with his little sister, Hilly.
I hear students saying how they want to be just like you when they grow up. I’m sure it would make them happy to see their idol in the flesh. You know?
Oh boy. Hilbert was smiling broadly now. But he tried to keep his emotions under control. After all, it seemed kind of rude to come in and hog all the attention.
Especially with Cheren. Although Cheren did a good job hiding it, he could tell when something bothered his friend. And considering Hilbert had been closer to being a Champion than Cheren, he always worried about how Cheren would take it
The fact that he was willing to let Hilbert show off and impress his class was awesome. But he still wanted to make sure he didn’t throw his life in Cheren’s face.
“I...I wish we had a teacher like you when we were in school.”
“And then afterwards, we can really talk. You and I. Alone... I’ll even take you to lunch. What do you say? My treat.”
Well, that was a little worrying. He could tell that, despite the offer for food, Cheren wan’t going to forgive and forget things so easily.
Black’s response: diffuse the situation and try to make Cheren happy to avoid confrontation.
“Sounds good, my man!” he replied. “And while we eat, uou can tell me all about that girlfriend I heard about. May?”
“I’m gonna be staying for a week or two. But I can stay a little longer if you’re gonna get married soon.”
Haha, genius. Cheren would never see through him, especially now that he wasn’t wearing his glasses.
