Summary
The original design brief of our group is about obesity. We prefer to use attractive visual presentation to raise audiences’ awareness for obesity. Initially, this theme belongs to healthcare innovation area. Health care topic is a popular theme that the increasing number of citizens are interested in recently. Hence, the exploration of this field can draw general audiences attention and have positive meaning and promotion in social activities. Otherwise, obesity is a significant problem in public health area. According to the research by World Health Organization (WHO), “in 2014, more than 1.9 billion adults, 18 years and older, were overweight. Of these over 600 million were obese.” Obesity is becoming the most serious cause to effects people’s health. In addition, this problem is also considerable in Australia. Overweight is affecting 48% male and 30% female in Australia. meanwhile, obesity is also affecting a further 41% of Australian (Thorburn 2005, 187). Clearly then, our purpose is to design a attractive and interactive graphic-based website to advertise the serious situation of obesity in Australia, and then, educating audience some relevant knowledge about prevention and awareness of obesity.
Introduction
The Design problem
Basically, our website is necessary because of several reasons. First of all, health care is the classical theme that many industries are exploring and constructing. Meanwhile, obesity is an unspecific concept but has close relationship to our daily life. For example, according to our interview and online research, many people may know the harm of overweight and fat. Some interviewee can list some relevant diseases of becoming fat. However, just limited of people understand the specific and scientific standard of obesity. Most of people just hold a blurred recognition about this area. Subsequently, although there are numerous health care websites and applications is working in this area, for example, advertising the serious data of obesity, offering audience exercise suggestion and customizing health diet. The drawbacks of these website are the lack of attractive visual elements and individual personal supervision. The normal presentation method of data in these website are usually tables and chart, such as pie chart, bar chart and line chart. These types of boring information can not raise audiences’ interest. Therefore, our design is required and necessary.
Aims and Objectives
After the identification of design problem, our initial idea is to create a meaningful webpage which can advertise the harm of obesity to public and leave deep impression to our audience via creative graphic design. First of all, we did many research and case study for several aspects, such as: the information of obesity in Australia, visual creativity and website style. All these elements combine together can create an attractive and informative website. We believe this website can fill the blank in relevant scientific and health website about obesity topic.
Firstly, because our website is an information-based site. Our purpose is to educate and inform our audience by the plenty of knowledge and data. We firstly search online by using keywords, such as: obesity, obesity in Australia, the difference between overweight and obesity. Although the medical information of obesity is accessible online conveniently, the senseless figure and table can not draw people’s attention and most importantly can not awake public’s awareness for the prevention of obesity. At the aspect of user experience, a great design product is based on the total understand and research for target users. Therefore, our website should include some well-organized interesting information that can educate our audience and raise their attention.
Secondly, the visual style should be the most attractive aspect in our initial plan. It also decides the special feature of our website to other competitors’. According to a research at the University of Minnesota (as cited in Parkinson 2012), presenters who use visual communications are 43% more effective in persuading audience to have real action than the people who do not use graphic techniques. Although our topic is not a new idea, there are still have space for us to create the attractive graphic-data demonstration webpages.
Lastly, we would like to offer users a comfortable experience on manipulation. the format of our website should directly help audience look through our website. Basically, the traditional web pages obey the grid design method, a standard webpage often consist of three sections. For example, the news websites and some official websites of government and companies. However, we identified the current trend of website styles is changed a lot. The mission of delivering information is located on graphic aspect. Literal content decreases the importance. Designers prefer to use a wide background pages and elegant typeface to offer users a direct and clear visual impact. Simplicity is becoming the main theme of web design. Subsequently, because of the development and popularity of mobile devices, people are used to look through website by scrolling vertically. This manipulate habit are also applying to new types of web design on PC platform. Therefore, our aim for this aspect is considering the current trend of development of web design and offer audience extreme comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Success Criteria
1. The audience can raise awareness about obesity because they are educated by our website’s content.
2. The order of content has proper logic for audience to watch.
3. Visual elements is interesting and attractive for users to cultivate agreement.
4. Data visualization is clear and effective.
5. The high-fidelity prototype of the website has high performance for testing and further development.
Conceptual Design
Vision
The strength of our design is apply an entire new visual style to show people an effective website. First of all, our potential audiences expect to receive a plenty of helpful information about obesity. This information should re-organized via a logic way and use visualization method. Subsequently, the content of graphic design plays a significant role in our website. We identified the common scenes that people with heavy weight may met in our daily. We draw this people via a comical and gentle method to awake their feeling of agreement. Meanwhile, the main specialty of our website is the representation of data. We are trying to break through the restriction of traditional charts and tables. Use more interactive and attractive method to increase the efficiency of data understanding for our audiences.

Then, we have the initially structure about our website and create a series of research materials to test the content order, which include interview question and questionnaire.
Secondly, the visual style is the most attractive aspect in our website. It also decide the difference to other normal website in this area. Although our topic is not a new idea, the actual creativity is attractive graphic-data demonstration. We are trying to inform audience the professional figure about obesity via interesting graphic and images.

2nd meeting:
In the second meeting, we firstly brainstormed ideas and design the web. And then, we discuss the first draft of the website text and the embedded graphics. Moreover, we have talked about the user research results and decided the information we would illustrate on the website. We also thought about the way we illustrate these data on the web. We create the low-fidelity prototype for the website.
