The lights were blinding
You were trying to keep your feet steady on the ground, cheering and yelling all around you. The guys pushing you. Everyone was rooting for a fighter you had never heard of - Kota Miura, the new heartthrob.
The ring was a blinding bundle of lights that you couldn’t keep your eyes off. Red and blue stripes of light landing right on your features, making this almost a cinematic scene.
And then you saw him - Kota. His bleached spiky hair caught your attention right away.
You could see him very clearly from the seats yall were sitting on. The ring was only a few steps away. Buying second-row seats was definetely worth it.
“Hm, he is cute” you mumbled over to your friend who was eagerly waiting for the match to begin.
Cheers got louder. The match was starting.
On one side of the ring was him - Kota Miura. On the other was Yushi Sakura - his opponent who was jumping around doing some kind of pregame ritual. They both put their gloves on, exchanged one last look. And the match began.
They started instantly. Yushi jumping from his side onto Kota and him sucesfully ditching it. You saw it on him, his face - the determinition to win. But you could also see the worry and the need to not dissapoint his team and his parents in the crowd.
Kota was fast. That’s for certain. He moved like a leaf caught in the Sapporo’s wind, like a water in japanese sea. He jumped from side to side, identical to a monchichi. You were amazed.
But seeing him fight, seeing how desperately he wanted to win, made you feel different - worried. So you cheered for him. Really loudly.
At the sound of your voice his head snapped up. It was a brief moment. Yushi locked in Kota’s arms on the floor. His attention should be there but his eyes still found their way to yours. Quick glance, that’s all that it was. But he was definetely looking at you.
Seeing you cheer for him was different
So you smiled. It was the only thing you were capable of doing right then.
He must have seen your smile, because at the sight of it, his mouth twitched and he smirked. Even in a situation like this. But the moment ended as fast as it started, with a blink of an eye you could see him focused on the other fighter again.
“what the fuck” you say in disbelief “did you see that?” Your friend laughing and confirming everything.
“Shiii, girl he saw you” she laughed, pulling out her phone to capture your face. “What’s he smirking for”
The rest of the game was a blur. Kota knocking Yushi down and winning.
“AND THE WINNER IS KOTA MIURA”
crowd stood up, cheering.
Kota jumped of the ring going straight to his parents. He immediately threw his arms around his father. His dad ruffled his hair and held him close. His mother kissing his cheek. He looked like a little boy in their arms.
Then his attention snapped right to you. His expression unreadable. He locked his eyes with yours. Is he coming over?
He slowly makes his way towards where you were seated. His eyes not leaving your face. He stops right in front of you.
Towering over you. He says
“Hey”
“Hi”
“I saw you” he said softly, only for you to hear.
So he was looking at me
You don’t know where you took the courage. It just felt right. Slowly, you reached out and covered Kota’s clenched fist with your hand. His knuckles were scraped and stained with blood, evidence of the battle he had just fought. His hand was so much larger than yours that you could barely cover half of it.
When you placed your other hand over his and gently brushed your thumbs across his bruised knuckles, you felt him go still. Inhaling in sharply.
For a moment, the noise of the arena seemed to disappear. Kota looked down at your hands, then up at your face. Something in his expression softened.
“You did great,” you whispered.
The grin that spread across his face was immediate. Bright. Genuine. Like a monchichi being praised after trying its hardest.
You see it in his eyes
He felt seen, understood, mesmerised.
Still being caressed. He says. “Thank you for cheering… mhm” he waits for your name. You say it.
“y/n” he says softly
“Im Kota” he felt the urge to tell you his name even though you probably knew it. His eyes screaming for someting, the need to say something, but nothing came out. So he only smiled and let go of your hand, putting one on your head. Smoothing your hair. Grinning at you.
“I’ll see you around” His hand slowly dropping down. He turns around with a cheeky wink. As he’s leaving you only hear him call out your name with a goodbye
wow you ARE coming back
