I have a theory that’s entirely my own speculation, but it “solves” the problem of what to do if Hui makes it into the final group. And I don’t know if I even like it, but here we go…

If Hui makes it into the final group, which would be a walk in the park for him in terms of skills, the contract length for these temporary groups is usually about two years. (This is based on the assumption that the BP999 group will temporary, which wasn’t originally the case but probably has to be now that they accepted contestants from agencies.)

What else do some Pentagon members have to do that takes about two years? Enlistment. The members who haven’t served yet could all complete their service while Hui is promoting with the BP999 group and maintain interest in Pentagon while they’re gone.

I kind of hate to think about enlistment after everything that happened with Hongseok, but realistically all the Korean members have to go eventually. I’ve wondered before how Pentagon would deal with Wooseok and Kino in being the same age, i.e. potentially enlisting at a similar time, and it would be a major blow to have both of them gone at once for an entire two years. So honestly, a quick hiatus (like many groups do) while Hui maintains/grows some of their position in the industry could be a strategic move.

That said, I agree Cube made them send someone, maybe Hui specifically, and what they can do now is make the best of a messed up situation. That’s the overall vibe I got from the clips I’ve seen of Shinwon’s (kind of contradictory) Vlive: they don’t want to be in this situation, but it’s not hopeless and it’s not some attempt for Hui to make a career alone. They love Pentagon and will fight to stay together.

it’s a gamble that cold pay off, sure, but, cube would never come up with, nor am i convinced theyd enlist together either. it is a risky plan that could work out. i don’t think the contract will be longer than kepler’s either.  i do think it’s… possible… but i wonder if kino and wooseok would enlist early. and with half the group gone…what would jinho and yuto do… it’s not like i think cube would ever give either of them the solo debut they deserve, and since 6-7 members aren’t enough for a comeback, i don’t think, like, four would be either. (yanan and hongseok are included in my thoughts, but their situations are completely unpredictable)

i still can’t help but wonder what cube’s conditions for it were, since hui actually went, in person. it must be something big for him to not just sit out the contract. but, maybe he (and i get those vibes from shinwon too from time to time) think they’re still better off really trying to stay in cube despite everything they’ve done than potentially looking for other agencies in the future. idk
