Don’t mind me I’m just thinking about how Rory almost destroyed her life and definitely destroyed her sense of self trying to please everyone around her not because they explicitly demanded it of her but because she grew up with a deep rooted unadressed view of her own existence as the destruction of Lorelai and Christopher’s lives, causing her to be constantly mindful of what the world might expect of her and desperately trying to not just meet those demands but a whole lot more no matter the cost because that’s the only way to make up for the fact that she exists and is alive

rory gilmore is many many many things however comma one thing I will never villainize her for is the complete breakdown she had when logan’s dad said she didn’t have what it took to be a journalist

she was told all her life that she was smart and gifted and talented beyond measure, the expectation of an Ivy League school was on her shoulders before she could understand what that meant, her academic achievements became her value and all of a sudden, a man she’s looked up to, who works in the industry she wants to work in and who, presumably, knows what he’s doing says “sorry no you don’t have it”

but rory doesn’t hear an old rich white dude telling her his individual opinion about her prospects in an extremely versatile industry— she hears a man at the top of his field tell her that everything she is and everything she’s worked toward isn’t enough, will never be enough

and it fundamentally untethers her, all sense of self and purpose slip away and the fear that she felt? breakdown worthy imo
