Swordplay || Eldigan & Eirika
nordionpaladin:
“You may lead the way.” The layout was still vaguely alien to him, after all.
Assuming Eirika took initiative and lead her luxuriously garbed guest to the Frelian proving grounds, it could be said the stroll there wasn’t entirely silent. Eldigan followed at a reasonable distance behind the princess, all but towering over her at an impressive 6 feet. “So. I’ve heard word from the general you’ve had previous experience in this field. From your brother, no less.”
“Not much,” Eirika had to admit. “Enough to hold my own, but…not for a war.”
The sunlight felt good on her head as they passed through the courtyard and toward the training ring. It wasn’t very crowded. (Good. She didn’t want the Frelian soldiers to see how much she still had to learn.)
“My brother did teach me, yes. He’s a splendid warrior, but most people don’t know that he is a good teacher, too. Do you have any siblings, Sir Eldigan?”
It seemed like Eldigan outright ignored Eirika’s answer and follow-up inquery, given his lack of immediate response. But in truth, the knight was simply lost in his own thoughts as they drew closer to the arena. The distant grounds shifted in appearance, the few Frelians within the confines off the spaced-off area dissipating and replaced with others-- promising squires of primarily Grannvalian descent. Amidst the nameless faces, a trio of comrades was winding down with a sparring session. “Damn, so close!” Sigurd exclaimed, swiping his perspiration-covered forehead with a cloth. “So far that makes... 4 losses to 2 wins out of this week against you. What’s your secret?” The edge of the younger Lionheart’s mouth turned upward. “One could say I’ve had hands-on experience. Now then... Quan? I believe it’s your turn since Sigurd lost.” “Right.” The Leonster noble stepped forth, brandishing his lance. “Are you sure you’re able to handle me right after that bout, Eldigan? I do hold the advantage here.” “I’m sure. I don’t let the law of weapons dissuade me.” After all, Prince Elliot was a lance user and Eldigan had managed to fall him some time ago. “En garde!” But before the duel could initiate, the sepia-toned flashback ceased. Eldigan's mind found itself back in Magvel. He looked down to the aquamarinette and mustered a brief response. “I’ve a younger sister back home.” Turning attention to what lie in front, the entrance to the arena stood before them, slicing the swordsman's train of thought like Mystletainn through flesh. “But that doesn’t matter right now, we should begin training.”
Lightly pushing open one of the iron gates, Paladin and Princess stepped into the arena. Eldigan took this time to toss aside his red cape and slip off his equally-hued coat, thus leaving him clad in pure white and allowing ease of movement.
Swordplay || Eldigan & Eirika
nordionpaladin:
“You presume correct.” He plainly answered the shorter woman. Eyes of gold gazed over her– it wasn’t until now the two had properly interacted. Despite Eirika hailing from a far-off, foreign land, her appearance was a taste of home to Eldigan. From her hairstyle down to choice in footwear, she reminded him some of his dear sister Lachesis. Oh, how he hoped she bode well back in Nordion. “And I presume you are Princess Eirika. General Seth permitted me to help refine your swordsmanship.”
Permitted. The word sat a little oddly with her, but Eirika let it go. It would be good to be trained by someone Seth deemed worthy, in his absence. She was more skilled than she looked, but not skilled enough by far.
Seth himself was now proof of that.
“That is very kind of you, Sir. I must improve as quickly as possible.”
Her rapier was leaning by the door, and she took it as she joined Eldigan in the hallway.
“The Frelian training grounds aren’t far.”

Swordplay || Eldigan & Eirika
Following General Seth’s directions, Lord Eldigan made his way through the Frelian compound to Princess Eirika’s chambers. En route, Eldigan had stopped by the blacksmith’s to purchase himself an inexpensive iron sword specifically for the occasion.
What is the occasion, you ask? To sharpen the Renais royal’s skills with the sword. Eldigan wasn’t about to duel with Mystletainn– as it certainly wasn’t fair to his inexperienced opponent. Plus, it would kill her.
Poised before Eirika’s temporary room, the Lionheart gripped the knocker and rapped it against the wooden surface, anticipating a response.
Eirika sat on the edge of her borrowed bed, fingers gripping the mattress.
Innes was out with the front lines. Frelian intelligence had it that Ephraim was fighting impossible battles in Grado – winning them, of course, but fighting nonetheless. Both were still alive, she knew. King Hayden’s men could report about the former, and Eirika felt the latter in her bones and in the old, wrought metal around her left wrist. She still felt whole, so Ephraim was still all right.
Seth lived, too, though it was perhaps as much luck as it was his own perseverance. Healers were seeing to his wound, but too much time had passed, and Eirika’s hands had been inexperienced. It would be slow to mend – if it ever mended at all. And in this condition, he couldn’t help her train.
But she had to get stronger. She was needed, now.
He’d mentioned that he’d chanced upon someone who could spar in his absence, and Eirika shot up when the knock came at her door. It opened to reveal one of the most handsome men she’d ever seen, in a foreign red livery. He already carried a sword.
“Sir Eldigan, I presume?”
“You presume correct.” He plainly answered the shorter woman. Eyes of gold gazed over her-- it wasn’t until now the two had properly interacted. Princess Gisla

Another strange twist of fate had brought Eldigan back to Magvel. Though, at seemingly a different time. A time of turmoil according to the general he’d encountered. Those words bore truth in the form of a severely lacking army the young commander who called himself Seth lead.
Renais, the kingdom which Seth hailed from, had fallen. He and the accompanying Princess Eirika had barely managed to escape with their lives as soldiers of the Grado Empire stormed the keep and killed the King. Now they were left to fend for themselves. Eldigan was quick to sympathize with their cause, and resigned himself to it for the time being. He and Seth were to protect the princess at all costs.
Following the recapture of Frelia Keep, Grado had sent a number of reinforcements toward the area, now knowing the whereabouts of the thought-to-be last member of Renais’ royalty. When they came, Seth urged Eldigan and all others to stand back.
…For he was to take them all on himself.
It was an incredibly daring gesture, one befitting the missing prince of Renais. Eldigan thought the man foolish at first, he’d no idea the commander was a one-man-army in his own right. Not unlike the Lionheart himself.
Lo and behold, all 4 of the cavaliers and 2 armor knights fell to the sword of Paladin Seth. Thereby establishing himself as a formidable warrior in the eyes of the outsider.
“…That was nothing short of incredible.” Spoke Eldigan to the other, as they headed back to the keep. “I didn’t think you as so skilled, and you managed to dispatch of them all with only a Silver Sword?”
As he considered the blond nobleman’s suggestion, Seth moved his clasped hands from behind his back to in front of him. “Something of that nature would really be up to the princess herself, Lord Eldigan.” As much as he would prefer to keep her out of combat whenever possible, given the size of their forces, not to mention her stubborn nature, that might not be possible. “She informed me, shortly after we fled the castle, that Prince Ephraim has already given her some lessons. Since his area of expertise is in lance work, perhaps learning from a swordsman such as yourself would be a boon to her, my lord.” Seth’s solemn face shows the ghost of a soft smile as he continues. “I would not presume to speak for her, but were you seeking my permission, I will say I am unopposed to the idea.”
Keeping one’s kingpiece out of harm’s way is an essential tactic. However, the King– or in this case, the Princess –should still possess the wherewithal to take down opposing pawns. “Her brother, the prince?” Eldigan rose a hand to his chin, hazel eyes averting Seth’s. “I haven’t heard much of him, but I do hope to cross paths if he still lives…” “But in any case, I thank you for your permission and time, General.” He took hold of his capes and shifted them accordingly whilst assuming a bow. “I’ll be off.” With that, Eldigan excused himself and went on his way.

“Indeed.” Seth matched the nobleman’s nodding with his own. “That is excellent to hear, my lord. I’ll allot us each just a couple men for back up then, and the rest of them can form small squads.” His voice grew quieter as he began musing to himself. “Probably put Sir Gilliam and Dame Vanessa each in charge of one, Father Moulder should stick with the princess, they can take care of each other, we’ll put a few soldiers with them…”
The scrape of steel pulling free of a scabbard drew him up from his thoughts, though, his hand moving towards his own hip before realization hit him that Lord Eldigan was merely showing off his own blade. Seth’s brow creased slightly as he tried to recall ever seeing a black sword before…Nothing in recent memory, that was for sure. There was something intimidating about it. Though the hilt itself had not seemed too different from Renais own sacred blade, Sieglinde, once unsheathed, it had a distinctly sinister aura about it. “I don’t believe I have ever seen its equal, Lord Eldigan. Given as it bears a name, is it perhaps a holy weapon?”
“That it is.” Eldigan nodded, resting his right hand at his side. “One of twelve from my world, bestowed upon an equal number of crusaders long ago. Only one bearing the blood of a crusader can properly wield their respective weapons.” Mystletainn was then calmly sheathed as the conversation progressed. “From the sound of things, this world must have holy weapons of its own…”
“Ahh, so I see. Thank you for sharing, my lord.” He clasped his hands behind his back, recalling what he knew about the legend of the Sacred Stones. “We do indeed have our own holy weapons, Lord Eldigan. Though only ten of them, split into five pairs. Each pair has been entrusted to one of the countries founded by the original five heroes who fought back the demon Fomortiis 800 years ago.”
Seth paused a moment, considering the nobleman’s earlier comment. “I must confess, I know little beyond that, so I could not say whether or not use of the weapons is tied to blood descendants of the heroes of old. All I know is the royal families of each country are the respective caretakers of their own sacred twin weapons.” He hated being unable to answer the question more thoroughly, but what the heroes had gone on to do after founding each country was more in his area of interest than an ancient legend of questionable veracity.
Sure enough, Eldigan’s assumption was proved correct. In fact, even the history of both realms’ holy weapons was to a degree similar. “How fascinating… so your holy weapons come in pairs per kingdom? I cannot say the same for my realm.” “But that begs the question, General, are Renais’ heirlooms too in the hands of the enemy?”
“Indeed. Perhaps we shall have an opportunity to discuss similarities between our realms once we have fought back the armies of Grado from this outpost and achieved some measure of peace.” After all, if Lord Eldigan were from a place that could become a potential ally to Renais, would it not be in everyone’s best interest to learn as much about them as possible?
Seth gave his companion a sly smile. “We have nothing to worry about on that front, milord. The kings of Renais, may they rest in peace, were quite clever about how the sacred weapons were stored. Only a few even know where they are kept, with myself being among that number. So long as we keep the princess safe, it is unlikely Grado will ever even find the hidden reliquary where they are stored.”
It certainly was a relief to hear his ally’s crown jewels were in safe keeping. Stored away beneath the nose of the Grado Empire, of all places. Guaranteed trump cards lying in wait for the embattled remnants of Renais. RIght now they had precious few men and precious few resources at hand, and mulling over these circumstances imbued the Lionheart with a rather bold idea. “Regarding the Princess... I wish to teach her some swordplay.” Eldigan was no stranger to the task. He’d taught his younger sister the sword, and it seemed Eirika already knew the basics given the rapier at her side.

Eldigan’s Backstory
((What follows is for all intents and purposes, my personal headcanon and a rough outline of Eldigan’s background. It will not become law for my Eldigan unless the player of his sister implicated in the story approves of it. It is also a work in progress.))
2, 8, 12, 15
2. what was the best thing in your character’s life?
Meeting his half-sister Lachesis. They met when Eldigan himself was around 14 and saved her from Prince Elliot and a few Heirhein knights, which also marked the start of Eldigan and Elliot’s one-sided rivalry and ultimately putting Eldigan in the position he is today. As their relation implies, both were birthed by different mothers. Lachesis’ mother was a noblewoman of Nordion, hence she had a more regal upbringing; whereas Eldigan’s mother wasn’t. It was because of his less-than-privileged upbringing that Eldigan was against war and able to fathom the plight of the common man, who suffers most from it.
8. how many friends does your character have?
He never had many; this is part of why Sigurd and Quan’s friendships are special to him.
12. what are your character’s major flaws?
Eldigan’s most obvious one would be his honorbound status. Otherwise he isn’t the most social person in the world, and can be very headstrong when in the midst of battle.
15. what is your character afraid of?
For his sacrifices and efforts to be in vain, to lose what he most cherishes.
13. what does your character pretend or try to care about?
Love. Even though he is married and loves Grahnye, Eldigan doesn’t feel true love towards her.
In fact, the man died having never found true love.
7
7. how does your character feel about sex?
Eldigan’s the sort of person who wouldn’t have it unless he were married, and if he were married, would refuse it with anyone other than his spouse. He’s a loyal individual after all, and relationships are no exception. In bed, outside of being passionate with the right person and always topping, he isn’t too interesting as far as kinks are concerned.

Seth dipped his head as the other man offered his regrets. “I pray you never need more than imagine it, my lord.” His brow furrowed as he watched the soldiers dashing back and forth. Many of them looked still quite young, had they even experienced actual combat before? It was perhaps a sign of how unawares they had been caught, how many fresh recruits were stationed at the fort.
“Ahhh, well, we are indeed grateful for your aid, Lord Eldigan. As you can no doubt tell, our resources are spread rather thin, so any willing hands added to our numbers are a gracious blessing indeed. I am most thankful to whichever strange fates decided to send you to us.”
Strange, blessed fates, indeed. His story held the ring of truth to it, so Seth had no reason not to trust him, but the idea of being swept off to parts unknown by circumstances beyond his control put his mind ill at ease. “I should hope you were not pulled away from anything urgently pressing, my lord.” Not that Seth would be able to return him to his motherland were that the case, but he would be remiss if he did not extend the same courtesy Lord Eldigan had shown him.
Agustria, from whence Eldigan hailed, was at peace… for now. But tensions were on the rise, and the thirst of the realm’s lords for conquest was growing ever greater. Though Agustria’s current ruler was an ardent pacifist, he’d find himself in a few months’ time murdered at the hands of his own son.
“Not particularly. But I wish to return to my land when I can.” He answered the commander, withholding information about the state of affairs back home. Seth was already fret enough by what befell his kingdom… it was best not to worry him further. Both knights drew nearer to the troop lodgings, and there were more than a few rooms available for the army’s newest member. “So tell me, Commander. What is your next strategy?”
“Yes, of course, my lord.” Hopefully they would be able to discern how to send the man back once the time came for it, but for now, they should focus on the task at hand. There were at least a few learned scholars of magic across the continent, surely one of them would have an answer to how men could appear from nowhere, at least, Seth would dare to hope for such a thing.
The enemy had almost overwhelmingly superior numbers, so the only viable strategy would be to try and split them up into smaller factions where they could be slowly picked off by the Frelian troops, himself, and Lord Eldigan. “Well, it will be tricky, but if we can make them fracture across the terrain, we may gain enough of an advantage that the battle becomes more tenable for us. I feel confident that I could take on at least four or five men myself. So, it depends on your own skill, as well as the training of our other men, what our greater strategy becomes.”
Though he did not wish to appear impertinent, he knew nothing of the strange swordsman’s skill. He carried himself with a steady, self-assured bearing, and held none of the pomposity of a man who simply wished to make himself seem impressive. It was vitally important that Seth learn how much training the nobleman had with the ornate sword he wore.
“Mm, I see.” Eldigan nodded whilst pacing. A solid strategy, but a question which lie further on the forefront of the horseman’s mind was where they’d be moving out to; a detail which Seth sadly didn’t so much as gloss over. “You needn’t worry about me. I’m quite able to deal with a number of foes on my own, hardly different than how you were doing. What is different though…” He reaches for the gothic-styled grip of his sword and unsheathes it, showcasing to Seth the Mystletainn in full. The blade was blackened, already setting it apart from most swords… and just below the crossguard sat a demonic looking crimson eye. Looking at it, one could say this blade was forged in the fires of hell. “…Is my sword, Mystletainn.”
