âGood.â Delthea sighs a breath of relief at his response. Overprotective parents were hard to deal with, and she always found it strange how her own father worried more about her than she did Luthier.Â
Her feet slip on the ice. She nearly falls right on the railing again, but she manages to catch herself. âIâm not cold. Youâre just probably cold because you arenât on the ice. Hurry up!â
She watches Luthier as he heads over to the skate rentals. Putting them on and then walking to the rink already looks like a chore - Lu never had the best sense of balance, but it was really showing here. Her skates push off as she begins to follow him, watching while he steps onto the ice.
He is struggling. Thereâs no control in his movements. Delthea is sure that she was nothing like this when she first started, and to watch Luthier flail around as he attempts to grasp the railing is hilarious. She stifles a quiet giggle, but that fails and she erupts into laughter.
It takes some time for her to quiet down. âOh, first,â she says, skating over to clasp Luthierâs hands, âIâm gonna teach you how to skate!â
With her hand wrapped around his, she drags him away from the wall.
Luthier splutters in response. âB-But i jus- no. Iâm just here to supervise you, not actually play in your games.â
He still clings to the railing until she overbalences him and causes him to fall over onto his knees. âAre you sure this is safe for everyone? It doesnât seem that way.â
Okay, so maybe he was overexaggerating like he always was. But his point still stood. What if you fell over and cracked your head on the ice or railing? No, no, this wasnât for him.
Pulling himself to his feet and clinging to the railing once more before she could try to drag him off, he shakes his head.
âI would like to keep both my dignity and head intact, thank you very much,â he mutters. âAnd you were enjoying this much more than when I appeared. I have a nice book in my satchel that I want to read, so Iâll stay here and watch you just so that Father doesnât tell at the both of us.â
âBoooooring,â Delthea drawls. âThe only way you can have fun is by getting out of your books. You donât even do anything but read and walk Spooks - what fun do you get out of that?â
She takes his hand once more, nearly crashing into another skater as she does so. A yelp escapes, but she covers it with a hand. Whoops. Looking around before doing anything on the rink would probably be smart. However, Delthea never really remembered this rule, nor would she care; other skaters should be able to maneuver around her. Right?
Delthea reaches for his other hand. âBesides, you already rented skates! You canât just go on the ice and then step off like some loser. Either learn now or learn now. Sound good?â
Thereâs a small pause before Delthea breaks out into a grin. She steps back, maintaining her grip on his hands. âReady, Lu? Itâs not as dangerous as you think it is.â
