Víkingabók Database Project: Íslendingasögur og Íslendingaþættir (Sagas of Icelanders and Tales of Icelanders).
Komiði sæl og blessuð, vinir,
This post is part of a collective project called the Víkingabók Database. The goal of this project is to compile various resources, whether as links or lists (particularly of books, articles, or sites), that relate to the fields of medieval Scandinavian and Irish studies. This project began on the 6th of December, 2016. This post may be updated in the future so that the information it contains remains current and applicable. In such instances, an amendment date will be provided. As of the date provided below, you may view this post, and the others associated with it, on the following platforms: Tumblr and Wordpress.
This post was last updated on: 14 DEC, 2016.
ÍSLENDINGASÖGUR OG ÍSLENDINGAÞÆTTIR (SAGAS OF ICELANDERS AND TALES OF ICELANDERS):
The following sagas and tales refer to the families that settled and lived in Iceland during and after the Viking Age. They provide tremendous insight into the society and culture that produced them, when read with care. I have listed them, with minor alteration, as they are presented in The Complete Sagas of Icelanders, which is to say that they have been ordered based on their relative subjects (outlaws, poets, supernatural, feuds, etc.).
Due to the massive amount of sagas and tales there are in this category, I have not providing detailed descriptions. I have, however, provided estimated dates (as they appear in The Complete Sagas of Icelanders). This is included for all sagas. Tales, however, will not be as likely to include dates.
All resource links are to English translations. Icelandic and Old Norse resources will be provided in a separate post at a later date (I will update this post, however, to include a link once I have made such a post). All of the following sagas and tales are included in The Complete Sagas of Icelanders, therefore a link to this resource will only be included if the saga is unavailable (reliably) elsewhere.
As for reliability, online sources are free, but their translations are terribly outdated. The best translations come from The Complete Sagas of Icelanders, followed closely by any of the other books provided. Online sources are great places to begin, but, if at all possible, move to the provided book resources at some point.
Citations are provided in the Chicago Manual Notation Style. In these citations, I have also provided links to each book and website listed, when appropriate.
KEY (BOOKS INCLUDE CITATIONS):
CSI Only = Only available in the Complete Edition.

***Online sources may overlap in available translations. I have provided multiple websites to accommodate possible preferences in format or accessibility. They are listed in the order of my own preference, which is based on format and reliability (but also frequency, the last three on this list are only used one time each).

Anybody have tips for a heavily Skaði themed yule celebration? Mostly thinking in terms of decoration/music, I have a vague plan for the rest
I’m not a devotee or anything, but for some generic ideas just based on the lore:
Stars, because of what she had done with her dad’s eyes.
A yule goat, since she seemed to be amused by Loki’s goat thing
Stockings, because she apparently has a thing for feet
Paper snowflakes and evergreen stuff, since she’s associated with mountains
Seconding all of the above. :-)
Pine has a tendency to proliferate in my house at this time of year. But then, I live in a pine forest so... this is not exactly unprecedented. I also have a tiny ornament of old-fashioned snowshoes that I tend to put with my pine boughs, and other things indicative of winter sports.
I honestly put out things for a few different deities (apples, for instance, look rather fetching with all of the pine/mountain winter), but anything embracing winter is good!
As requested by catchmyminibones, Thor and baby goats! I hope you like it.

I really wish people would realise that Christ is not the only god to get killed, nor is he the first, nor is he even necessarily the most notable example (just the best known). Christ’s death doesn’t make him weak, or pathetic, or unworthy of worship. Dying is just something that gods do.
