Amelia head-canons I’ve being thinking about lately
• She doesn’t like wearing her hair down, especially during a chess match. It just gets in the way and distracts her. She tends to tug on a strand of hair when she’s thinking hard, but if it was down she’d want to tug on all of it, so she braids her hair to keep it out of the way.
• She’s very organized. She gets moody and frustrated when she has to live and work in a cluttered space. She learns to tolerate chaos a bit more having Gemma as her roommate, but she still prefers everything in its place.
• Mint helps Amelia stay focused and calm, so she’ll often drink mint tea before a match. It’s also a nostalgic flavor because her granddad would keep peppermints in his pocket and offer them to Amelia when she’s nervous.
• Amelia’s favorite book to read when she was little was Through the Looking Glass, gifted to her by her granddad. When she’s older, she finds the book silly and embarrassing, but Gemma helps her rediscover a love for fantasy books.
• Her favorite animal is a rabbit, courtesy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, another book she loved as a child. When she was little, she often begged her parents for a pet rabbit, but they always told her they were too messy.
• Her favorite chess piece is the queen, followed closely by the knight.
• Besides chess, she shares an interest in astronomy with her granddad. She is especially interested in constellations, finding them orderly and reassuring. Her favorite one is Lepus. Solving Puzzle 001 during the game for eternal life made her even more determined to win.
• Patterns in nature, like the Fibonacci sequence, fascinate her. She likes thinking of the universe itself as a chess board, logical, bound by rules, and fully capable of being understood.
• She’s inspired to want to teach after meeting Professor Layton during the game for eternal life.
