JJ’s songs
Stay with me by Sam Smith
The song could be sung by JJ, her life is ever evolving and since the age of 11 she’s always been just a little afraid of letting someone get close to her; she lost her dear sister to suicide, then she kept on losing friends and colleagues. That’s how she ended up in a marriage to Will, she knew he was more in love with her than she was with him, deep within her she knew that she’d survive if he were to leave her. After being forced to confront her very real feelings to Reid she left of her own volition and came to Black Creek.
Fight Song by Rachel Platten
The song stands for JJ’s perseverance in the face of challenges, when she was tortured and wouldn’t let Azari win. He couldn’t break her, she had to deal with her PTSD, she had to go through a miscarriage, alone, scared and in a foreign country and she still made it. She knows she can get through anything if she only believes in the good in this world, despite what she faces on a near daily basis.
Early morning strangers by Cher
‘it’s hard to make smalltalk when there’s nothing to say...’ describes how she feels about Will perfectly, he’s easy on the eyes, certainly, but it was far from love. If JJ hadn’t discovered she’d fallen pregnant she was certain that they’d never married and it wouldn’t have gone much beyond a casual roll in the hay. On the other hand she song is uptempo, smooth and with a certain levity, especially in it’s melody, which fits JJ’s personality well.
You don’t know you’re beautiful by One Direction
The song is upbeat and you can just see JJ singing along while she makes breakfast and dances through the kitchen, her hair flying everywhere. Of course the lyrics fit, because for all her bravado and gun toting tough girl persona she gets easily flustered, she’s still taken aback when a guy shows serious interest in her. She even mistook her first date with Reid for an outing of the youngest team members and brought Garcia along.
People are strange by The Doors
There’s something incredibly dirty and sexy about this song and it describes the people she’s dealing with professionally perfectly. It’s a song that could work for the whole BAU team, but JJ especially, seeing as she, along with Prentiss and Morgan, is one of the most normal and socially adapt people on the team. Spending years of her life having to explain the more outlandish gestures and investigative methods to others.
