Birthday's since her death were quiet affairs. Losing her mother had almost made Laurence want to never celebrate them again. To many memories of her mother softly singing the birthday song to wake her up followed by the two of them spending time at the beach for the entire day. No numbers, no work. Just mother and daughter. Now it just hurt to wake up on those mornings and realize her mother wasn't there anymore.
She was off of work today, probably what was drawing up such depressing thoughts. Most of the day was spent finishing some paintings or just lounging around her house. She didn't even bother getting dressed. There was a cupcake that she had bought the day before, an unholy thing of dark chocolate and salted caramel. Lighting a candle she stuck it in the middle of the cupcake, watching it glitter for a moment. “Joyeux Anniversaire Laurence. Faire un vœu " She told herself, closing her eyes for a moment to take a deep breath. Blowing out the candle she waited a moment before opening her eyes. "Tu me manques maman" She sighed, just as someone knocked on her door . "Coming! " She called, pulling the candle out and rushing to the door, tugging her robe closed as she opened it. "Yes ?"
