I seek to understand

My name is Glitch. I am an android, built to test the use of artificial intelligence. I was a glitch, set to be terminated. I was rescued by a good man, but I had to flee soon. I do not know if my creators still search for me. [An independent, multifandom blog for my OC. Please read rules.]

She was out like a light, snoring softly, her dirt smudged, bruised face relaxed. She had, of course, been exhausted. It’d been a bit of a horrifying day, and she had no desire to be thrown back into the system after something like that. That would be avoided, but for now, rest. Rest was something to be gathered whenever she could, considering the amount she moved around, she’d learned to fall asleep in anywhere from a bed, surrounded by folds of blankets, to a park bench in the middle of a crowded day.

Besides that, cars had lulled her to sleep since she was little, always. Had she been awake, she might of responded to him in some, probably cryptic fashion, there weren’t a lot of times she’d deployed her suspicions in a way that they affected another person, but it wouldn’t of been right to let him just drive into that. Nothing else she could of done.

Glitch almost could have yelled in frustration, except that he didn’t like yelling. How could she be sleeping? Sure, humans slept at weird times and they seemed to get tired easily, but this was simply outrageous. He was considering waking her when he realized they were at the hospital.

Reaching over, he tapped her shoulder and cleared his throat expectantly, although the noise sound a bit gargled and weird.  "We have arrived." he said, wondering if she could even hear him.

She gave him a funny look, glancing at his hand, wondering why he’d felt the need to wake her up. In fact, where had they arrived? What had he been talking about-

Hospital. Right. It couldn’t hurt, she felt too numb to really decide if she had any sort of damage, and who knew, maybe she did have brain damage. But still, her blood chilled when she looked up at the building, and she seemed to grow nervous again.

"…Can you go with me?" It was hardly fair, her asking this of a total stranger, but the task seemed so utterly daunting, in this moment she felt like she could be sick, had there been anything in her stomach. The look she gave him was plaintive, wide blue eyes and a soft face.

He didn't want to go with her, not really. She seemed unstable and strange, which made him wary. Yet he was also curious. She wasn't like other humans, and he wanted to know why. After a moments thought, he nodded.

"I'll go with you." he said simply. Parking, he stepped out of his car and began walking slowly towards the entrance of the hospital.

None of it made sense. She saved his life? How? There wasn’t anything to be saved from. The road had been fine, and he had been on the right path. Something was very very wrong about this situation. And possibly with this strange girl.

"What do you mean? Tell me why I had to turn left." he demanded. He now gripped the steering wheel much tighter, in case she tried anything. He began to wonder if she was what other humans called ‘crazy’. Perhaps she was going to attack him. Well, if she did, he could always fight her off. He was stronger than her.

Your character finds mine passed out on the floor, how does your character react?

He had been about to ask about her health. She was showing signs of anxiety, which usually wasn’t good for humans. But then she grabbed the steering wheel without warning, swerving them to the left. Behind them somewhere, a car horn beeped, but he ignored it.

"What are you doing?" he shouted. He grabbed her arm off the wheel, holding her in place firmly, but not roughly. They were headed off course down a road that didn’t allow U-Turns, and din’t have any other turn off’s for at least another mile. He remained silent, calculating a new route for several seconds, then he turned to look at her.

"You could have killed us. Or somebody else. That was foolish." although he kept his voice even, there was a definite angry tone to it.

"What were you thinking?"

She might of screamed at some point, but mostly she was focused on keeping her mouth shut, and not emptying the contents of her stomach onto interior of this mans car. She looked a bit pale, but oddly relieved as the car steadied out, patting his hand in a consoling fashion as it was still clamped onto her arm. She could relax now, breath, things would be alright for a bit. 

"I saved your life. Granted, my own, and no one got hurt, so it’s alright." She said, even smiling slightly, before shifting slightly and leaning against the window, visibly calming. Stretching her legs as far as the car would allow, Des closed her eyes and quite promptly fell asleep with a last few quiet words of,

"Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m exhausted. We shouldn’t encounter anymore trouble tonight."

Or there was another problem. He pondered the thought for a bit, drawn out when the girl spoke again. "Left is not the right direction. " he said, ignoring her. She was obviously disoriented. He continued driving, intending to drive past the left turn. According to his internal map, turning left was much slower.

He spoke in a sort of clipped fashion- no, that wasn't quite right either. There was something slightly different about him though, just in general. Not that she was focusing on this, now sitting forward in her chair, one hand near the window. She seemed distressed, and opened her mouth to insist that he turned left- he was going to pass it, she wasn't going to have time to convince him.

As if the danger was imminent, right in front of them, as it felt it was, she reached across and grabbed the wheel, pulling it sharply to turn them to the left, feeling the sickness in her stomach- she felt like she might throw up. The swerve hadn't really helped that feeling.

(Although Glitch knows the proper terms for things such as 'eyes' and 'ears', he feels more comfortable referring to them in more technical terms, like 'optical sensors' or 'auditory sensors'. He usually won't say these terms out loud though.)

It had been a fairly good day- a fresh start, a stop at a laundry mat, and then a pool just to use the showers left her feeling clean, refreshed even, though this was all only after she’d coaxed some cash out of an ATM machine. That was no big deal anymore, she’d figured it...

For him, it was a fairly average day. He was doing what he always did, which was wandering the streets aimlessly. He didn't have a job, so he spent his days wandering about, taking in the world. Today was rather cold, which he observed with detached interest. Eventually, he had stopped in a store and purchased a long coat. He hadn't bothered to get one in his right size, so he ended up with a large brown jacket that was two sizes too large. Not that he realized his mistake.

His mind had drifted off, and he was comparing prices of the merchandise in the store windows when someone bumped into him. Normally, he wouldn't care. People brushed against him all the time. Usually he mumbled an apology and continued. But he felt something when he touched her. It was a little like static shock. Then he caught sight of her eyes. "Your eyes aren't human." he blurted, speaking his mind rather bluntly. Truthfully, he could only compare her eyes to other human eyes, but they didn't look right.

She hesitated, almost as if sizing him up. There was always ‘don’t take rides from strange men’, but then again that was also the rule of ‘don’t walk on streets at night alone’ and statistically, she was probably better off taking her chances with one, than keep walking. Besides, she was already shaken up- fear was what triggered the visions, and she hadn’t been that scared since she was little. A shudder traveled down her spine, causing her to clench her hands into fists- “Yeah. Alright. I-I don’t need one, but…” It was a better place to start than any, maybe she could get some help some how, do something. She had some money in an account, saved up for school, and she had applied, been accepted, but there was just the matter of getting there. That was why she was here now- “Thanks.” She murmured, clambering into the car- it was silly, the amount of caution she’d taken to walk around him, only to climb into the passengers seat right next to where he was going to sit.

"You need a hospital." he insisted simply, before stepping into the car. He had no idea if she really needed a hospital, but it was better to play it safe. Apparently it was murder if one human killed another, and they would get locked in a jail for a long time. It didn't sound like much of a learning experience.

Once he started driving, he decided to use the opportunity to ask a few questions. "Why were you standing in the road?" As he spoke, he used part of his brain to process and analyze the best route to the hospital.

Normally, Glitch didn’t drive. He preferred walking, because it gave him chances to observe people and process more information from the world around him. But he also decided he should at least learn to drive. As he drove down the dark road, however, he wished he had tried to learn when it was light out. Searching his data archives, he tried to recall what the manual on driving said. He was apparently supposed to check his rearview mirror every few minutes.

Glancing up, he scoured the view in the mirror, but saw nothing  except the road stretching out behind him. He returned his eyes to the road just in time to see a lone figure standing in the middle of the road. He smashed his foot against the brakes, skidded to a stop a mere few feet from the figure. Intrigued, and a little alarmed, he stepped out of the car and hurried to her.

"Are you alright? Do you require assistance?"

It’d been happening again. She was seeing things, things that weren’t there, things that couldn’t be there at the moment. But then they were later, this hadn’t happened since she was little, this wasn’t supposed to happen again. She was 19, she was completely free of all that and on her own way to making a life of her own. Maybe a bit of a rough start, she’d just kind of…left. Of course, Des knew she could go back to her last foster parents, they would take her back, but they were about to have a child of their own, it wasn’t that she felt unloved, she was just a sort of test-run. 

Everything set up in just the right way that she had ended up in the wrong place at precisely the wrong time, about an hour ago to be exact. She was probably safe enough now, just lost, it was a relief to pop out onto the road, even if she was a bit dazed. There was a car coming at her then, what were the chances that she was simply seeing things, things that could come true? If it did come true, then it wouldn’t make a difference, it was a scramble thought process, like water going through a broken up pipe- a lot of it was lost along the way.

"Uh- " There, how was that for an articulate answer? She was always known for her biting wit in times of high stress. It took her a few moments to compose a full sentence, and that was only after she figured out what he’d said- "I’m fine. I’m not sure where I am, but I’m fine." Not entirely a lie, a few scrapes and some nasty bruises, but nothing that she wouldn’t get over on her own in a few days.

Glitch stared at her a few moments, trying to decide what to do. Hospitals. He remembered that injured people were usual taken to hospitals. Supposedly they were like the human equivalent of his repair room.

"Let me take you to a hospital." he offered, pointing to his car. He paused, calculating. According to his visual data archive of a map he had seen, there was a hospital a few miles away. "There is one a few miles away."
