it’s not that julian hated the holidays but unlike most people he wasn’t that fond of them. “i don’t hate them, it’s just i prefer not to get my hopes up about spending them with people who don’t like to commit to things.” the brunette explained as he walked down the street looking at all the christmas lights being put up.

The holidays were a time that Derek rather hated, the season bringing with it a lot of memories and loss that he didn’t particularly enjoy dealing with.  Glancing up at the man’s comments, he shrugged.  “It’s another season.  Lot of good, and a lot of bad too. Low expectations are always best.”

derek hale, lydia had no idea she would being seeing him. words were already coming out of her at a million miles a minute. as much as she tried not to, it just happened. 

“SO HEY, are you heading out to see what’s happening with all the lights and the tree ??” brows pressed together. “i’m not sure if i should go ?? there’s a lot of time to check it out, right ?? or do you think it’ll be fun ??” so much was coming out of her mouth. and maybe, just maybe stiles would come out of nowhere.

Derek was rather startled when Lydia Martin was suddenly standing in front of him and talking swiftly, the wolf having to focus on what she was saying to understand.  “I hadn’t really been planning to, but judging from the fact you just...talked, quite that much, at me, makes me think you need to breathe and just look at some lights.  Come on.”  The werewolf nodded towards the festivities, granting her a slight smile. “You doing okay?”

          scott’s  eyes  practically  bugged  right  out  of  his  head  at  that.     derek  had  been  here  for  months  and  none  of  them  even  knew?     ‘  months?     please  tell  me  that’s  an  exaggeration,  ’  he  commented,  already  getting  the  feeling  it  wasn’t.     ‘  god,  derek,  i  wish  we  would’ve  known,  we  would’ve  tried  to  help,  ’  he  sighed.     even  though  derek  left  beacon  hills,  scott  still  considered  him  to  be  pack.     as  unconventional  as  some  of  derek’s  methods  could  be,  scott  was  sure  he  wouldn’t  be  where  he  was  without  him.     ‘  but  since  i’m  here  too,  i  guess  that  doesn’t  really  mean  much,  ’  he  chuckled,  a  little  concerned  that  derek  had  been  here  for  so  long  —-  did  that  mean  he  hadn’t  figured  out  what  was  happening?     ‘  —-  but  it’s  good  to  see  you  too.     have  you  seen  anyone  else?  ’

“Definitely not.  Months.  No end in sight.  It’s...well, unsettling, but peaceful.”  Derek shrugged a bit before lifting an eyebrow.  “Help with what?  I’m used to being alone.  I’m glad you’re alright. Is the rest of your pack here?”  Derek was curious if all of the Beacon Hills pack had come through to Paris, or wherever this actually was.  “No, you’re the first I’ve come across.”

cora gave her older brother a small smile ❝ it’s great to see you as well, derek. i do not know, some people can forget ❞ the she wolf nodded her head and looked up at him when he gently touched her arm. she was not much for hugs ❝ perhaps two weeks. how about you? something is different about you, brother, but i cannot quite put my finger on what it is ❞ 

Derek’s eyebrow quirked, not agreeing or disagreeing with her statement.  Magic and things made the answer complicated, but he’d never, naturally, forget his little sister if he had any say.  “A couple months or so.  It’s not been bad.  And, well.  Life is an interesting journey.”  He smiled a bit, knowing she’d left before he had changed into the full wolf.  “But what have you been up to?”

❝ perhaps it is true what people say, people appear up when you least expect it ❞ cora smiled when she saw her older brother. it was a long time ago they had met and she was glad he seemed to be okay, hopefully ❝ hello derek. remember me? your little sister. long time no seen. did you magically appear up here just like me? ❞

Derek turned to face her, smiling slightly at the sight of his sister.  He’d caught her scent several minutes before, but the wolf preferred to let her approach.  When it came to his family he wasn’t ever sure about how much they did or did not like him on a particular day.  “Cora.  It’s great to see you.  Of course I remember, how could I ever forget?” He gently touched her arm, the closest the wolf ever really got to hugging. “How long have you been here?”

Derek had admittedly been spending a lot of his time in cafes and coffee shops when he wasn’t working or exercising, the place perfect for just relaxing and either reading or drawing.  He was about to sit down when someone bumped into him, the wolf glaring darkly at the offending person before refocusing on the fact that his coffee had spilled all over the pages of his novel.  “Well, there goes that.”  Sighing heavily, he looked over at the man. “You alright at least?”

judith’s eyebrows shot up. this man became more and more interesting by the second. she’d been shot at, sure. but not daily. the walkers were her main enemy, but they weren’t hunting her specifically. why would they need to hunt him? “you don’t have to tell me why. i just hope that you’re safer now,” she replied, a bit of her kindness showing through.

Derek studied her a moment, giving the girl a shrug. “So far.  But things tend to change rapidly when it comes to life for me.  The why is a bit complicated.”  She may seem sweet and innocent, and he was inclined to try and comfort or help her, but he wasn’t about to reveal what he was.  He wouldn’t want her to change her mind and start using those guns on him.

the words took rey aback, and she had to repeat them to herself mentally a few times to truly wrap her head around it. her face paled, but her eyebrows only knitted together as he began rattling off her life story perfectly. her knees began to tremble, and she stumbled for a moment before gripping onto a nearby lamp post to keep herself on her feet. whether he was telling the truth or not, he somehow knew everything about her. it floored her to. hear it, given she’d assumed she was the outcast out of everyone. “i- w-what…?” she choked out, her head spinning.

Derek had no idea what to do with this, watching her react and taking a hesitant step forward to help before stopping himself.  He’d likely inspired some sort of existential crisis, and that definitely wasn’t helpful.  “Breathe, please...sorry.  It’s..well, it seems that we’re all from different..worlds, sort of?  Where maybe we don’t exist in some or if we do it’s just as story?  I..I have no idea what’s happening, and I’m regretting mentioning it to you.”

like him, she didn’t sense any danger with the bad men here. but it didn’t mean they weren’t around. she was careful not to trust too easily. maybe he was even tricking her now. but it was worth it to find out if he’d be a potential friend to have here. someone to fall back on. she stared down at the ground for a few moments, making a choice inside her head. then she met his gaze again. “can we go somewhere private?”

Derek nodded in answer to her question, commenting. “There’s a park not too far from here that’s usually unoccupied.  And if not that then there’s plenty of random alleys between here and there.”  He felt odd, suggesting a young woman go into an alley with him, but there weren’t too many other opportunities for privacy in a city like this one besides a home.

Derek couldn’t help the smirk that lifted his lips when the younger wolf pointed out the obvious, but he didn’t tease. Just nodding, he rubbed the back of his neck. “Couple of months, but I must live on the other end of the city or something. I just caught scent of you and headed here...it’s good to see you Scott.” The older man smiled softly, genuinely glad to see the other. He’d worried about the Beacon Hills pack, even if he knew he wasn’t truly a part of it. He was a lone wolf, but he’d always look out for them.

oh no. the color drained from rey’s face, and she fought to keep a cool exterior. he knew jakku? how was that possible? she stammered for a few moments, attempting to play it off. but she was sure her reaction had already given it away. she ignited her lightsaber behind her back and brought it in front of her slowly, now more suspicious than before. “how did you know that…?”

Derek couldn’t help but smile a bit as the lightsaber light up and she held it up threateningly.  It really was cool, and it made him miss Stiles and Scott all the more than usual.  The annoying human would’ve loved this.  “Well,  on my...world?  Version of earth I guess? You’re a story.  A movie we can watch and enjoy.  You’re a character from that movie, and...well, the last one I watched you were a scavenger from Jakku who ends up going to some weird island to learn how to be a Jedi.  It’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, but that’s how I know.”

there was no way this could be someone else from hawkins lab. another subject. another number. no. no, he was too old. he didn’t fit the timeline. but somehow, he knew exactly what she was going through. a part of her latched onto the opportunity, and she nodded slightly. “you’ve had to hide too?” she asked, keeping her voice low. so low she wasn’t sure if he heard or not. but she had to be careful; the bad men were everywhere.

Derek smirked a bit, nodding.  He’d been on a the run more times than not it seemed, though likely not for the same reasons she had.  “Yeah. Thankfully not while I’ve been here yet, but yes.  Hopefully for different reasons than you are.”  He quirked an eyebrow, not expecting her to tell him but still willing to help.

“so have i,” judith claimed. then she shook her head. “i still can’t trust anyone.” she’d learned that lesson well over the years. she was a loner. that’s how she preferred it. it was something she took from daryl, that was for sure. “you say it like you’re usually used to encountering danger. are you?”

“Hm.  That’s understandable.”  Trust wasn’t something Derek gave freely either, having been betrayed by pretty much everyone he’d ever given it to.  At her question he nodded, crossing his arms.  “Getting shot at has been a day to day occurrence from time to time.”

rey blinked, at a loss for words. no one had put it in that perspective before. but he just wouldn’t understand. no one here was accustomed to space travel. he would never believe her. “i’m from a place called jakku. it’s secluded and desolate. a desert,” she explained. she didn’t specify that it wasn’t even in this galaxy, but that was irrelevant for now.

Derek paused, looking at her for a long moment.  “...Jakku.”  He’d seen Star Wars, the wolf having gotten tired of not understanding Stiles’ random references and he’d watched them all one weekend.  “That’s a different planet isn’t it?”

as soon as eleven had begun to walk away, he said something vital to her. she froze in place. how did he know she was running? was he familiar with it? slowly, el turned to face him, her expression less closed off and more curious now. maybe he could help more. “wait,” she requested before she could truly think it through, biting her lip. then she stepped closer, tilting her head. “how do you know all of that? and how did you know i couldn’t give my name?”

Derek paused when she asked, looking at her solemnly as she asked her question.  “I’ve been in hiding before.   I’ve had to learn.  And I know that because it’s a tutoring center.  That’s pretty much how most places work.  Give em a name and they’ll accept it.  And I guessed.  A lucky one I’ll grant it, but a guess.”

not the first time he’s had a gun pointed at him? could he have possibly come from her world too? she moved forward just slightly in fascination. even if he wasn’t familiar with her world, he would have some sort of idea. but how? she made a mental note to ask later on. “i’m… not sure yet,” she admitted, glancing around the area. “i don’t know who i can trust here.”

Derek was starting to get used to people looking at him like some sort of zoo animal when he made weird statements about himself.  At her statement he just crossed his arms.  “Can’t say I’ve encountered a lot of danger here, and I’ve been around here a few months now.”
