like if you strip the world of this extreme protection of masculinity and parents didn’t tell their kids that being straight is some sort of “default”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't humans the only species that differentiate sexual orientation? Animals in the wild don't care what equipment you've got, they're just about the pleasure. Naturally when you're talking about reproductive purposes, animals know what to look for. But for the sport of it, THEY DON'T GIVE A FLYING HOOT!
