One dark window gave us everything.. folklore, romance, magic, dark academia vibes! What an incredible way to start this duo logy. I read many romantasy series with this type of magic system, the cards. I find it incredibly interesting. Each card gives you a different power, the nightmare can read minds, the scythe can make you do whatever it wants etc, collect them all and you can put and end to a terrible sickness thatās been going around for years and years. Now all thatās good and dandy but whoās going to collect those cards?
Elspeth our beautiful maiden who has a literal monster inside of her. Sheās such a sweet and shy girl with a spine of steel. She had to hide such a powerful magic for eleven years without anyone noticing. Itās always the quiet ones.
When our girl was a kid she got sick and touched a nightmare card by doing this the monster of that card transferred into her mind. Yeah that blew my mind as well.
The nightmare was such a funny character. He had opinions and was very sarcastic. Iām confused whether he actually cares for elspeth or he juste wants yo be free.
This Leeds me to Ravyn Yew.. our captain of the destriers. A rebel whoās trying to collect the cards and save his brother and our girls love interest. I love him. I need a man like Ravyn.
Great book, great story. Exited to read the final book.
