headcanon time:
Besides just being used to wearing it, Geode still wears her collar because she can’t take it off. At it’s base, it’s too tight to lift over her head and she has no idea how to open it: she doesn’t understand the tech well enough for anything besides minor adjustments.
Send "Am I interrupting something?" and my character will explain why they're undressing in the middle of the room.
[Calcite Geode] A question has been weighing on the younger gem's mind for a while now and as she approaches the Pink gem, it's apparent. "E-Excuse me? Is it okay to talk to you, right now?"
“Hm?” Rose Quartz blinked twice after turning her attention to the gem who came to her side, “Yes– Of course! How can I be of service?” A smile graced her features as she placed her tiny hands upon her hips.
“Things change when you open your eyes. That’s the best way I can put it… After everything we’ve been through and all the things I’ve lived through, I wanted things to change. When I came here, I realized that this planet was beautiful and I… Found myself wanting to protect it.”
Rose Quartz had to avert her gaze as she felt a familiar pang of pain, she showed some ambivalence toward her role in the past, but she felt like she had to shift gears back to a positive outlook to keep herself from falling back into feelings of despair. “I’ve started a new life, and I believe everyone should have that chance to choose a new future for themselves. Everyone should be equal here… I will always fight for that kind of positive change.”
Glancing down at her feet, she lifted a hand to brush her hair away from her face and bit into her lip for only a few seconds. “…Does that make sense? I’m sorry if I’m not helping at all…”
Geode listened to Rose Quartz speak intently and quietly, closing her eye in thought. She wanted to understand how someone a Diamond could turn out to be someone so... beautiful? Was that a way to put it? She was a... decent gem, she meant well. Physical attributes not being counted, Rose Quartz was beautiful. But she couldn’t bring herself to trust that this was real.
At the mention of choosing a new future, Geode couldn’t bring herself to open her eyes. She didn’t want the other to see how wet her eyes had grown and how close to crying she had become. Very softly, she found a chance to interject “I’m not... I don’t think everyone here agrees with you...” The hurt edged into her voice, but she ignored it and let Rose continue on.
“I’m sorry... but not entirely. But it’s... st-starting to? If that makes sense?”
It didn’t seem like her response helped at all, but that wasn’t surprising. Calcite was used to an entirely different world with a whole other set of rules and… Who knows what things were like at the current time. All of which was difficult for her to personally imagine and she didn’t want to spend too much time pondering about the suffering gems from Homeworld. That was too painful for someone like herself… Rose couldn’t help frowning as her thoughts drifted away.
“…Are there gems around here who aren’t kind?” This question wasn’t rhetorical. If there was someone who was being cruel, then she would have to do something about it. “I promise that I mean it when I say what I say, there is no ulterior motive and I certainly don’t expect anything in return. You don’t help someone in order to receive some kind of favor later on. That would be the opposite of doing the right thing.” Rose Quartz placed her right hand on her cheek and sighed under her breath, thinking it was going to be a difficult path to earning Calcite’s trust.
“... It doesn’t matter.” She said this simply, matter of fact-ly. Nothing that happened since she arrived was out of line, she figured... Ruby was right, wasn’t he? This was a collar. She was a pet, but... she didn’t belong to anyone. So what did that make her? Some stupid stray? And because of that, she didn’t like talking to Ruby... because then she might have to finally say that she didn’t belong to anyone and who knows how much more poorly he might view her? “But...”
Perhaps it would be best to confess why she was so confused... at least one part of it. She had seen Blue Lace and Rose form Pink Diamond before (which was surprising, she hadn’t expected them to be a diamond, but that meant what Blue Lace said had some truth to it....)
“Agate claimed you were part of the Diamond Authority, long ago. You...” She shook her head once again, unable to make sense of this. “It doesn’t make sense.
[Calcite Geode] A question has been weighing on the younger gem's mind for a while now and as she approaches the Pink gem, it's apparent. "E-Excuse me? Is it okay to talk to you, right now?"

Rose’s face dropped when it seemed as though something may have been up with Calcite, but she replaced that expression with something similar to content. …Was it really so hard to understand her motives? Thankfully it wasn’t something terrible, she thought to herself.
“There’s a very simple answer for that, Calcite.” She spoke softly while crossing her arms over her chest, “It’s the right thing to do. Wouldn’t anyone else do the same if they were capable of helping?” That was a rhetorical question, but she wasn’t sure if the other gem might take her seriously so she had to add in a quick response just to be safe. “I don’t believe in being cruel, outside of war, that is.” Was that a good enough answer?
Everything Rose did was confusing for Geode to take in. Why did she look... what was the word for that expression? Was she happy? Pleased with something? What was there to be pleased about, did Rose Quartz get some sort of satisfaction from being in such a good position that she had time to spare and waste of rejects like herself?
I can think think of plenty who m-might disagree...” She rubbed the back of her neck anxiously, but her palm was met once again with the cool surface of her collar, a familiar surface that somehow was comforting to her, despite all that it meant. “But... why us? I’m not w-I mean, when Aventurine was missing and I asked for help, you just... did? Don’t I owe you something?” That made more sense to her than anything that Rose had said so far.
Tilted her head to the left as she watched Calcite Geode make some attempt at explaining herself, but she was honestly confused since she couldn’t guess what the other was thinking. Being patient was key though, she reminded herself. “You can always ask me anything, I really do not mind, and I’m happy to talk any time!” Rose exclaimed, giving Calcite a playful wink. “Did something happen? …Are you okay?”
“I’m fine... now, I mean. Sort of.” It was hard to say she was okay being surrounded by all these strange gems. She had wanted to avoid others and just stay safe with Aventurine, but this is what her friend wanted. To stay with these strangers? Even with Ruby around, Aventurine wasn’t scared?
She would never understand how brave anyone else could be, but... she wasn’t meant for bravery. Bravery was for fighters, after all. Finally, however, she just tried to ask her question. “Why do you keep helping us?” First, the pink gem had helped her find Aventurine... and then she... “I-I mean... like, why did you heal my gem?”

Everything about Rose Quartz confused Calcite Geode... she was positive this was the leader of this strange little group, but if she was... why was she so upbeat about things? Weren’t leaders supposed to be all serious? Even a little smile didn’t strike her as serious, friendliness=leader didn’t seem to make much sense to her. She shook her head, placing a hand against her collar and looking away.
“I was wondering... if it’s okay, can I ask you something?” How does one word this? “A-about the other day... er, well... it’s been a while, but...”
