A/N: I am in absolutely no way romanticizing this movie. I saw this tiktok someone made about if there was a fic about Jack Abbot with an Obsession AU, and I loved it. The story line is brilliant, and it perfectly depicts the idea that you could do anything for a man, and it still wouldn't be good enough. And if you don't reciprocate romantic feelings, then that just automatically means that you're playing hard to get. I saw this movie twice in theaters and each time I cried, because there are just so many hidden meanings. Even if a lot of them weren't intended.
Jack was sitting on the couch with his head hanging back, when he heard you knock at the door. He was jerked out of his daydream, practically getting whiplashâŠit was past his bedtime. His feet met the floor quickly and he walked towards the door, almost a little scared. The door creaked open, slowly, but surely. And there you were.
The softest but biggest grin on your face. Your hands were holding each other behind your back, and you were wearing a dress. It was white, short, and had ruffles at the seams. âHi, Jackie.â JackieâŠyouâve never called him that before. Like, ever.
âHeyâŠâ
You stare at him for a second before getting jerked out of your thoughts. âIâm sorry for barging in like thisâŠIâm just- somethingâs so wrong and just..weird today, and I think I just need your help. Is that insaneâŠ?â He looks at you like youâre crazy. BecauseâŠthis isnât really you. You donât act all skittish and giggly when you guys talk.
âNo, itâs just- are you gonna be okay?â
âYes! Iâll be fine! Better, now that iâm hereâŠâ
Jack steps aside so you can finally come in, and you push past, swift on your feet. Suddenly, you stop, and close your eyes taking a in a deep breath of the air surrounding you. Jack peers around your shoulder wondering why you stopped walking. âY/N?â He says your name.
âIt smells just like you in hereâŠâ
You smile softly to yourself and exhale the scent of him. Jack nervously giggles at the comment. This was weird, right? Youâd never acted so sweetly towards him. You turn around and your expression falters. Your eyes soften and your grin fades into a straight line. âI wanted to ask you something, Jack.â He stares into your eyes, scanning your face. âWhat is itâŠ?â
âDo you think about me? Like, at all?â
âLikeâŠhow?â
âLikeâŠhow I do.â
Jacks brows furrowed and his lips parted.
âI know you doâŠRemember when you kissed me? I only pushed you away becauseâŠI just got out of this terrible relationship. I wasnât ready for anything else.â
âYou had a boyfriend?â
âYeah. I never told anybody.â
For a second Jack almost thought it was impossible, the thought of you having a boyfriend. You were a very closed off person, and didnât take any bullshit from random guys that hit on you. You look up at him with glossy eyes, the light shining just right on your pupils.
âJackâŠI think about you all the time. I- I donât think I could live without you.â You start to walk forward, step by step, until youâre nearly chest-to-chest with him.
âY/N, I donât know if youâŠknow what youâre saying right now.â You slide your hands up his chest, and slowly the wrap around the back of his neck. He gets goosebumps at the feeling of your delicate hands tracing up his skin. âI do.â Then, you kiss him. Not rough, but soft, just like you were. Just like he imagined. His hands wrap around your waist, and just like that..time stop-
âOh my god, what the fuck?!?!â You scream breaking the kiss. You trip over your feet, making you fall to the floor, your ass immediately feeling sore. âY/N, what the fuck? What happened?!â
âSorry! Sorry! Iâm just- I thought I saw something!â
âYouâre starting to freak me the fuck outâŠâ
âWaitâŠno, no, iâm sorry. Please donât be scared. I just I swear I saw somethingâŠâ
As he looked at you a little harder, he realized something was off. Youâd never made the face you were making. Your eyebrows were curved into a sad expression and your mouth was parted, you looked at him like he pushed you to the ground.
âY/N, youâre not scaring me, but this is all just soâŠmuch? I mean, you come here, and tell me that you have feelings, and then you just basically threw yourself to the groundâŠâ
âYou just make me nervous.â
âI make you nervous?â
âYouâre just so handsomeâŠand forgiving, and kindâŠâ
You looked like a kicked puppy standing out in the rain. Jack couldnât look at you like you were crazy, because you werenât. It was all in his head, and maybe he was just paranoid. âCan IâŠshower, maybe?â
âYeah, of course. Just- Come on.â Jack kneeled down to help you up off the ground. You held his forearm as a walked you to the bathroom. Lined neatly along the edge of the shower were bottles of shampoo and conditioner that matched the kind you once mentioned liking, along with body wash that smelled like fresh lavender instead of the generic soap he used. He grabbed brand-new toothbrush and set in a cup beside soft towels folded with care, and under the sink was a small basket filled with hair ties, makeup wipes, lotion, and even a spare hoodie waiting for her afterward. None of it was extravagantâit was simply thoughtful. Heâd listened to the little things youâd said without realizing it, quietly making sure that if you ever needed to stay over after a long day or simply wanted to feel at home, youâd never have to ask for a single thing. âOkay, just let me know if you need anything.â He smiles, turning to leave. âJack wait-â You reach out to grab his hand. âCan you stay in here with me..?â
âYou want me to stay in here?â
âYea, I justâŠdonât feel very good right now.â
Jack took a seat on the toilet, keeping his eyes on the ground as you removed your articles of clothing. The steam filled up the bathroom as you showered, the hottest setting, always. Jacks mind wandered far back into his head. Why were you acting so strange? It almost as if your mind justâŠflipped. You donât normally act so needy, something was up. Jack leaned forward so his forearms were resting on his thighs. The sound of the curtain opening abruptly ripped him from his own thoughts. Jacks head instinctively whipped in the direction of the sound, only to see you, and your bodyâŠ
your beautiful body. He immediately closed his eyes, focusing back on the ground and shaking his head. âShit, iâm sorry, honeyâŠâ
You step out of the shower, getting goosebumps as your hot feet hit the much colder tile. Just then, Jack feels your fingertips on his chin, angling his head up to look at you. âJackieâŠâ This was a whole new you to Jack. There you were standing 2 feet away from his face, your chest exposedâŠeverything exposed. âWoah! Jesus..Y/N. What are you doing?â His immediately closes his eyes turning his head away. âYou donât like it?â You frown, a hint of melancholy in your voice. âJeez, iâm- I donât knowâŠyou just-â
âAm IâŠugly?â Your voice shakes and a sharp frown forms on your face. Your face grows hot and your eyes well with tears. Jacks head immediately turns around, âNo, no, noâŠI just- Sweetheart, you donât know what youâre doinââŠ.â You look up at him with glossy eyes, your eyelashes still wet from the water in the shower. His rough hands found your upper arms, and rubbed up and down, looking into your eyes.
âHere.â He reaches to the counter top to grab the oversized shirt for you to wear. You reach out to grab it but he takes it from you⊠âArms up.â You reach your arms into the air and let him slide the big shirt over your body.
Jack knew something was off. Something was wrong. And he felt a little bit guilty for it. There was a quiet certainty in the way you spoke, smiled, and faced the world, making even the hardest moments seem a little less intimidating. Your heart was as bright as your spirit, always noticing when someone needed a kind word, a steady hand, or simply someone to listen. But now it was like a dark cloud has floated over you. Youâve never painted yourself out to be insecure. Even if you really were, you never wouldâve let people think that.
Jack grinned at you, and jokingly grabbed the side of your hair gently. âWhatâre you thinkinâ bout?â
âYou.â Your demeanor immediately switches up. Your brain chemistry seemed altered. Youâd never flirted with Jack, at least, seriously. If you did it was banter, something to laugh about. But this was serious. And as Jack looked closer at you, and deeper, he noticed that little twinkle in your eye, was gone. Even with the light in the mirror reflecting throughâŠnothing seemed to brighten it. He knew he was in trouble. But at the same time, this is what heâs always wanted. For you to justâŠsee him, and want him. For you to be obsessed.
Jack decided to let you sleep at his place. He didnât think you were in the right head space to leave his apartment, let alone his side. You were attached to his hip all day long. When he did the dishes, or his laundry, or was watching TV. You were there. You snuggled up next to him in the couch, resting your head on his shoulder, with your hands wrapped around his bicep. Heâd look down and you were just staring at him. Heâd giggle and turn your head away with his other hand, he had to do it about 5 times. When it got to be time to go to sleep, Jack went to his room and got an extra pillow and blanket. He started making a haphazard bed on the couch with what he had, getting the wrinkles and creases out of the pillows. You round the corner with a sad look on your face. âJackâŠ?â
âWhatâs up kiddo?â
âCan IâŠuh- sleep with you?â Jack turned around confused. You always sleep on the couch. In fact whenever youâve spent the night before Jacks insisted on you taking the bed and him taking the couch. âYou always sleep on the couch, sweetheart.â
âI know. Iâve just been having these really bad dream lately. I hate them.â Jack knows what itâs like to have bad dreams. He basically lives there most of the time.
Jack smiles at you, âGo ahead and get in bed. Iâll be there in a minute.â You happily skip away on your tip toes, leaving Jack to clean up the bed he just made. A part of him felt funny. Why the hell were you acting like this? He thought to himself. Jack came into the bedroom and threw the pillows and blankets on the bed, turning the light off and closing the black-out curtains. One thing he hated about night shift was the fact he had to sleep in daylight. You were already snug under the covers, your shoulder up being exposed. Jack climbed into bed, wearing nothing but boxers and a t shirt. It wasnât something he typically wore to bed butâŠitâd have to do-
âYou can take off your shirt.â You cut into his thoughts.
âWhat?â
âYour shirt? I know you donât usually sleep with it on.â You were correct, Jack absolutely hated wearing a shirt to bed. He was doing it for you. He didnât wanna make you uncomfortable, even though he knows you wouldnât mind. But Jack doesnât really know what to say.
âTurn around.â You say, shuffling through the covers so that you could reach the hem of your shirt. âWhat the hell are you-â
âI said turn around! I donât wanna freak you out by showing you my tits again.â You giggle, Jack complies. He hears the faint sound of shuffling, the drop of your shirt to the floor, and the sound of you getting back into bed.
âOkay, youâre good.â You confirm. When he turns he sees your shoulders naked above the covers. It was pretty obvious what just happened. âI donât like sleeping with a shirt on either. Or pantsâŠbut I wonât make you suffer through that.â
Jack canât believe you were willing to just sleep shirtlessâŠwith him. He stands there debating if he should follow through with your kindness, and just take off his shirt. He swallows the lump in throat and reaches from the hem of his shirt. He pulls it over his head and you stare in awe. God he was perfect. A smile begins to slowly form on your face when you see Jack awkwardly shove his way into the covers. He lays on his back, and you lay on your side. Facing him. The room was dark, the black-out curtains were sure doing the trick. If you hadnât known any better youâd think it was actually night time. Your eyes trace shapes on his bicep in front of your face.
âSoâŠhave you thought about what I said?â
Jack clears his throat, âAbout what?â
âMe havingâŠfeelings for you.â Your voice was so glossed over and velvety. Jack wanted to drown in it. He turned towards you, so you guys were face to face. âWhat the hell am I gonna do with you?â He props his head up into his hand.
âLove me.â You quip.
âThatâs quite the demand.â
âWell, you feel it. I know you do. We fit.â
You move forward, you faces inching closer and closer, your body heat reaching each others. âCan you touch me? Please?â You breathe out.
Jack exhales, âShit, baby.â How could he say no to you? There you were, this beautiful girl, who heâd been waiting for forever. Jack leans forward and kisses you, hot and heavy. His hand lands on your throat and he puts his chest above yours. The kiss grew sloppier and hungrier, you open your mouth to let his tongue meet yours. One hand gently on your throat, and one on the flesh of your ass. But of course, Jacks mind takes over, and he breaks the kiss. He looks down at you from his view. Your hair was already a mess, partially in your face. Your chest was exposed, your tits were even more perfect than he imagined, and your lips and cheeks were flushed from the chaos. He thought to himself for second. You were so perfect, look at you. You donât deserve it like thisâŠyou needed better. You deserved way better. Jack forced himself to return back to where he was before. His back to the mattress, and his eyes looking at the ceiling. âUghhh youâre no fun.â You say, rolling your eyes. The silence took over for a moment,
âI do think about you.â Jack cuts in, answering your question from earlier in the day. You look over to him and heâs staring at the ceiling. His vision shifts at the feeling of the mattress shifting, you scoot closer to him. His lifts his arm, almost instinctively, and you snuggle close into the crook of his shoulder, breathing in his scent. You rest your hand on his stomach, and draw circles.
âI love you more than anyone in the whole world, Jack.â
Jacks heart sinks. And he remembers his wish.
