So apparently there was a Data Viz Challenge in which the information gleaned from the Government's interactive " whatwepayfor.com " site. Users simply enter info, like their annual income, and *voila* a 134 page break-down of how every cent of their tax money was allocated. Seems pretty transparent, not to mention an ultra-modern & cool way to help the pubic stay informed! Alright, Government. I'm impressed. ...and I bet you think you're real slick too! I'm so distracted by the novelty of your web tool...I'm not even critiquing how your management of my hard earned tax money! As if that weren't fun enough, someone had the bright idea to take that app a step further and turn the results into a graphic visualization instead of a droll, no-frills 134 pages of text. Can we do this with ALL info? There is so much data we would benefit from seeing but we don't seek it out because, it's usually boring...hard to understand. Even if you get the gist of things, there's still often a disconnect. It's hard to synthesize & apply the information to our own daily lives, etc. We're so far removed from the data, we may as well be reading a fairy tale. The automation, visual aids & personalization helps it feel like a real thing & not just some facts you read. All of the entries were interactive & super-well designed! Try them!
