The Nothing Else Press is pleased to announce the launch of a new edition by Toronto artist Jon Sasaki.

Typically, building a model ship in a bottle requires hundreds of hours of patient finicky work, inserting tiny parts individually through the neck of a bottle and cementing them into place. In this multiple, a model ship has been made from superabsorbent polymer, the same material used for novelty “grow in water” dinosaurs. After pushing it into the bottle and filling it with water, the ship will expand approximately 500% in volume.

The Nothing Else Press is very pleased to announce the publication of a new work by Toronto-based artist Lee Henderson. Henderson was artist-in-residence this summer at the Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, where he produced several works which examined the notion of “spirit” ranging from supernatural apparitions, to the ideal of camaraderie, to the sort we imbibe.

To Conjure From Vapour is a tarot deck of metaphysical whisky tasting notes:

“The “tasting note” is an increasingly common technique in the promotion of scotch whisky. Most immediately, it can be described as any (expert?) account of the flavours one can expect when tasting a whisky. But at its core is a paradox, or at the very least a riddle—it’s a piece of scripted text that attempts to transform a direct, subjective, evanescent experience into a shared language. This should put it firmly into the demesne of poetry.

To Conjure From Vapour therefore considers the tasting note as a communion with the spirit world (spirit as alcohol, but also as breath, or soul, or ideal). It includes a card with a custom text for each of the 22 Major Arcana and the 56 Minor Arcana, with the implements of spiritcraft replacing the traditional suits (barrel staves for wands, clocks for coins, glasses for cups, and hammers for swords). The deck facilitates the divination of one’s taste before even touching the spirit; a potomancer’s companion.“ - Lee Henderson

GRIDS is an excerpt from an ongoing series of tongue-in-cheek paintings by Rick called Untitled (Real Title), which poke fun at art-world tropes. This project marks the third in a series of enamel pins by Nothing Else Press whose conceptual conceit is modelled on the underlying structure of the grid. Previous works in the series include projects by Joy Walker and Robert Fones.

Water eroded rubble from the Leslie Street Spit - a dumping ground for sand, broken bricks, cinder blocks and earth dredged from construction projects across the city - is scavenged and converted into equipment for ballistic exercises. In between weight-lifting sessions they serve as attractive floor sculptures.

An editioned version of a 2010 work by acclaimed London-based artist and designer Daniel Eatock. The entire contents of a can of spray paint is emptied into the oncoming air stream of a desktop fan. The paint exits the aerosol and is redirected back towards itself, evenly covering the canister in the paint it previously held, rendering it an icon of itself. Each are unique, with the edition size determined by the availability of colours from a common brand of spray paint.

"The G, S, Y Types represent the only three possible configurations that can be constructed on a nine-square grid by tracing a continuous pathway through all nine squares. Additional variants can be generated by flipping or rotating the three basic types. The bevelled pathways were inspired by overhead views of gabled roofs and by First Style paintings from Pompeii. The three types are named after the letterforms they most closely resemble: G, S and Y." - Robert Fones
