In my opinion, 6x05 prophecy is not just about Lagertha; I think it’s the Seer telling Hvitserk that, in order to achieve his main goal - to put an end to Ivar’s life -, he needs to fulfill an important stage - to kill Lagertha.
Something happens (Thora’s murder) and Hvit strays from his path (he and Ivar split up). Something happens again (Lagertha’s murder) and Hvit is suddenly back on track… Lagertha’s death brought Hvitserk and Ivar together again. But what for? Hvitserk (and us) still don’t know why he jumped out of the boat, choosing Ivar over Ubbe. And, based on some BTS, Hvitserk’s fate is bigger than just kill Lagertha or Ivar. To me, his fate is, actually, to put an end in years and years of suffering and invasion of the Saxon’s lands, caused by his father’s death.
It’s important to remember what’s the legacy left by Ragnar to Ivar before his death: resentment, vengeance, hate, destruction.
Ragnar gave to Ivar a mission, and he’s just fulfilling it. He won’t stop. He won’t deal with the Saxons. He’s carrying his father’s legacy after all.
But Hvitserk is the one who’s destined to stop him. So, his fate is more than just put an end to his brother’s life; it’s to end the consequences of Ragnar’s death, the reign of terror established by him. So, to me, Hvitserk will be Hirst’s Guthrum. Hvit becomes a Christian and signs a peace agreement with Alfred, officially ending Ragnar’s era.
And this is the end…

The longest day, the shortest night, Natt is in absence, The shortest darkness, the longest light, Dag rules this sky, Sol enlightens a world more bright, Just as the embers of the midsommar fire, Until the sun rises, they must stay alight, Make haste, the days move quickly now, Jord grows stronger now, And Balder’s brightness shining through, As Hod stirs from his deepest sleep, Anticipating the falling leaves, For one more year, give thanks, Sol ascends tonight.
