Rosaline let a sigh part her lips, rubbing her forehead with her hand as she shut her laptop and set it aside. It had only been a day since she was rescued from the base of Mt. Fuji and luckily, she had been able to convince the guard to keep his lips shut with some money. Shuddering at the though, she decided to get changed from her nightgown into some more casual clothing. Her mind raced as she wondered what she would tell Phoebe or if she should make something completely up. It was her own fault after all for not telling anyone about where she was going, but then who was there to tell in the first place? Rosaline had been gone almost a whole week and no one had noticed her disappearance. Yet what was she expecting? A huge search party? Missing posters with her face plastered all over it? No, that wasn't it. She just had hoped someone had cared to notice.
Rubbing her eyes and letting out a loud yawn, she finished slipping on some jeans that covered her tattered legs, making her wince in result. The fabric of her long sleeved shirt rubbed her injured skin the wrong way, which made her suffer in silence. Rosaline hoped it wouldn't be hot as she put her red hair up in a pony-tail. Once she finished she looked in the mirror to make sure she was at least moderately presentable. Her eyes had dark circles underneath that made her crinkle her nose, her cheeks were beginning to get a sunken in look and her skin was pale but that wasn't anything new.
She hadn't been getting much sleep from the nightmares she'd been having ever since she'd seen her first dead corpse. Gritting her teeth to stay awake, she slowly slipped on her shoes and grabbed her bag from it's resting place on the bed. Making sure she had everything before walking down to Phoebe's room, hesitantly knocking once she arrived.
"Phoebe..?"
Rosaline is a curious being and today being no exception; she would be taking a self planned trip into the Suicide Forest of Japan at the base of Mt. Fuji. One of the places she'd wanted to see ever since she had arrived. They say about 100 bodies are found in the dense forest each year. It really is a beautiful place, yet is tainted by death and its stench. So many people go and never came back, and she wanted to find out why. So, taking only a pack full of food, water bottle, supplies, and phone she would set off into her adventure, alone
Rosaline awoke around early morning to begin getting ready for the events ahead, having taken a shower and charged her phone she got dressed in a plaid shirt, shorts and hiking boots; ready to tackle the day. Filling her pack with goodies, she left the hotel around 11 in the morning and made it to her destination only a couple hours later. Smiling, she paid the taxi man and started off towards the base of the forest. Rosaline didn't know what to expect when she arrived, already used to the staring of the locals. She wondered what was going through their heads when she entered the green sea of trees, following a dirt trail that would soon consume her.
The scenery was beautiful, trees stood tall with flowers claiming their land at its base, so close together you could barely fit inbetween the tree trunks. Looking up at the sky, the blue soon mixed with green until eventually one color dominated the other and light would not shine through much longer. It was such a beautiful place, you even forgot about what once was and will be. No wonder this was the spot to claim as your last resting place.
After a few minutes of breath taking views, Rosaline was met with a sign that was large and bold, meant to be seen by people who came for a reason that wasn't taking a day off to hike. Don't give into yourself, talk to someone.)
Letting out a deep sigh, she walked over to the part of the trail marked off by yellow tape, made sure no one was watching and walked underneath it off to the middle of no where. After an hour of walking, the forest got eerily quiet and the only sound emmited from underneath her feet. Leaves and sticks crunching underneath the weight she put in each step foward.
Eventually, she began to see color other than green. Strings of blues, pinks, reds, and purples began to pass by slowly as her gaze wandered around. Stopping for a few moments she looked around, they were everywhere. Strings attached to branches. She wondered what they were for and being the curious Rose she was, she decided to follow a yellow one.
Another hour passed as she continued to walk beside the sting of yellow, and so far, nothing has appeared. So she decided to look for a decent sized boulder to sit down and relax. Once she found one not far off from her trail, she ate and drank in solitude, checking her phone all the mean while.
"Shit...One bar.."
She pouted and decided to slip her phone into her pocket again to enjoy her lunch.
She's been in the forest for over four hours and her feet were beginning to ache, her head bowed she really couldn't tell where she was going until a shiny object glinted through the corner of her eye. Perking up, she walked faster towards the object to find a compact mirror hidden underneath the leaves. Picking it up she wiped off the dirt and opened it, what she was met with was sight of herself and of an umbrella behind her. Turning around, she saw the item leaning against a tree. It was a womens umbrella, and once her eyes landed on it a gut feeling told her to walk away, to not follow the yellow string anymore. Either way, she followed the rest of the "trail" with compact mirror in hand.
Rosaline was met with a dead corpse hanging in mid-air a few minutes later, her hand covering her mouth as she looked at the grotesque being just hanging there with a smile on the womens face. She didn't know what to do, so she ran, tripping over another dead body that made her scream. The mans face was distorted, the rope tied around his mouth rather than his neck, meaning he had no jaw. It was beginning to get dark, and she didn't know where to go so she ran some more, far away until the last ray of sunlight faded and she was consumed in darkness.
She was crying out of fear, stumbling upon a small clearing that she decided to rest for the night in. Taking off her pack, she set it down on the grass and laid down upon it, her head resting on the bumpy case. Tears ran down her face as she closed her eyes. It was becoming extremely cold and she regreted wearing shorts.
"This is it...I will never be found." Rosaline spoke to no one but herself.
"I'm going to die in solitude and no one will even notice I'm gone...I mean no one cares about me right? Everyone is so close to eachother, I feel like such a no body. Everyone has a best friend...a love of theirs..A life..What do I have? I should stop being such a bother to everyone and accept my fate.." She was curled up by then, scratches and bruises now covered the pale skin of her body. She hiccuped and sobbed, covering her face with her dirty hands.
"I'm so stupid.." She cried for another few minutes before she just stared off into the forest, her eyes lids heavy from all the sobs, all her emotions. She only had enough food to last one more day and water to last a few hours.
Shiviring, she fell into a restless sleep. Not caring by now, if she was found dead or alive.
