i started around 2011, with homestuck and sherlock, during the fall of the onceler fandom. i witnessed the mishapocalypse and fanpro. i saw the rises and falls of so many trends: flower crowns, sassygay[character] urls, homestuck askblogs, and “WHAT IS AIR”

but nothing before or after has every compared to the dangan ronpa fandom circa summer 2013

the military begins recruiting ‘soldiers’ before they grow out of their booster seat

four year olds have toy guns and green army men

by grade school you’ve memorized the star spangled banner and the pledge of allegiance

in middle school you’re old enough to play first person shooters set in war times. you and your friends brag about how many kills you have, what guns are your favorite

in high school, rotc comes to visit. you get letters in the mail detailing scholarship and housing opportunities you could have

and if you’re poor or unsure of your future or in love with the idea of ‘protecting your country’ like the men in call of duty

every branch of the military has a sponsored blog on here because they want everyone 13 and up to know that soldiers are heroes and they should join them

showing support for the fic writers in this fandom. because completing a fic isn’t easy and can take a lot more time than you think. especially compared to art

like, let’s be real here– you see this?

i drew this in less than five minutes. no biggie. not a lot of time spent. it’s pretty much just a doodle, whatever whatever. and let’s say it’s tagged or whatever, it’s probably gonna get about 20 notes, give or take

but then you’ve got the fics – the drabbles alone, the very short fic you requested – that can take hours or days or months to finish. of course, this is the same for art, but that’s not the problem– the problem is the attention

fanfics get very little attention. a quick doodle i draw of turps in about 10 minutes gets 83 notes; a fanfic my friend spend one month on gets 8 notes. it’s not very motivational.

if you find a fic you like, then please at least like it to show that you’ve read/support it. share it with your friends. reblog the fic. let more people see the work.
