Patching Up a Broken Heart (1/2)
The night was quiet and unsettling, it was bothering me. Feyre hasn't returned to the house and it was already past her curfew, not to mention that we had to attend Physics Class early before we get a tardy and an earful from Mrs.Weaver. I glanced at the clock for like, the tenth time and she hasn't returned.
“Get a hold of yourself Rhys.. She’s just your bestie and roomie. She has every right to do what she wants.” And by THAT means letting her have fun with that so called asshole of a Tool. Clearly, the guy just wants a pretty face and to get laid and not give her the attention needed. I snapped out of my racing thoughts when the front door creaked open, the clacking of heels growing louder with every step. I cleared my voice and proceeded to turn to her. “Looks like someone got back past curfew~ Seriously Feyre Darling, coming back at this hour is way too far off your own schedule. You should've thought of it better-” My smirk faltered when I saw her face. Her eyes were red, nose a bit puffy and her lips quivering nonstop. I rose from the couch. “Feyre? What happened?”
She didn't say anything and rushed to her room. The clatter of her heels on the wooden floor was quick and raging. Before I could even call for her again, she slammed the door shut, making me flinch. Damn, her strength sometimes scares me. I don't want to recall the time she man-handled me from a club, half drunk and almost going to bed with a girl he swore not to even think of. I shook away the thought and walked to her door, knocking a few times. “Feyre? It's not polite to storm in and slam the door. Please darling, tell me what's wrong.”
“Nothing is wrong..” I heard her from the other side, her voice a bit hoarse as if she was screaming. I could hear her sobbing after she’d replied and I just couldn't stand it.
“Feyre, quit being a bitch for two minutes and just let me in or else I'll go against your ‘No Breaking Down the Door’ rule.”
“Just leave me alone! I'm fine! Quit being a bitch yourself!”
I gasped, a bit offended. “Now just for that, I'm coming in. Get ready to not have a door for the next week.” I said and I heard her sniff harshly.
“Don’t you fucking dare, Rhys!”
“Breaking the door in three… two..” Before I could continue, she threw something at the door with a loud thud.
“The door is open. Use it like a civilized man, for God’s sake!” She said. And with that, I let myself in. She was laying down on her bed, hugging a pillow to cover half of her face. I sigh a little.
“Ok, now that I'm here against your will.. Mind telling me what happened?” I walked closer to her, a bit weary that she might throw me something. God, I hope it's not one of her heel shoes. I learned the hard way the first time we met how strong she was at throwing. When she didn't answer me, I plopped on the bed next to her and moved a bit closer. “Feyre? Roomie? Bestie?... Darling?”
“What?” She barely snapped. Barely. I poked her back.
“I didn't just threaten to break down your door to just lay next to you and not do anything.” I could hear her roll her eyes as I caressed her shoulder gently. “You can tell me anything, okay? We can also make the ‘A thought for a thought’ truce.” She didn't say anything and I continued. “When you didn't return to the house in time… I was worried my roommate, my best friend, had gotten into trouble and I had half a mind to find you and get you back home. You had no idea how many times had I glanced at the clock when you were like… twenty minutes late.” I said with a small chuckle but then stopped when she slightly huffed a laugh. Silence fell in the room as she did not return the thought. I took it as a message to not push any further and was about to get up when she turned to face me.
“Tamlin broke up with me… in front of everyone.” She barely whispered. At that, I felt a wave of rage in my chest.
“He did what?” Feyre gave me a look as if telling me to not talk about it. “Oh do not give me that look. That bastard has made the biggest fucked up mistake in all the history of Prythian University. If I was a professor here and teach a manners class, I’d stick a solid F right up his sorry ass.” I could see her trying to smile at that because her lips were barely quirking up but she huffed.
“Forget it. It aint worth it.” She said. For fuck’s sake Feyre! I’m not giving up that easily.
“.. You’re right…” I said and she looked at me in disbelief. Now is my chance. “What's worth is driving up to his house, knocking some senses… and some teeth.. into him. Then, once he’s out cold, I'll bring Cass and Az and spray paint in red his entire house with tons of F’s and a quote saying: F for failing at manners. After that’s done, we’ll post it on social media as if we haven't even done it! It's the perfect plan-” I heard her laughing, and it somehow made my chest fill with pride.
“You wouldn't!” She said breathlessly. I scoffed dramatically.
“Oh yes I would and I'm being completely serious!” I said and Feyre had the audacity to hit my arm. “Ouch!”
“Stop plotting revenge you prick.” She smiled, wiping away her tears. I held her hands. “You’re overreacting.”
“I am not. It would be worth it to see the look of his face.” I said, making her laugh again. I pulled her close, wrapping my arms around her as she rested her head on my chest. It’s nice, it always felt nice. “He doesn't deserve you. He doesnt deserve how amazing you are.”
“I'm being serious. You’re creative, artistic, ridiculously strong.. enough to even throw a shoe at someone’s head..” She chuckled nervously. Ah, so she still remembers that. The thought made me chuckle. “You’re incredibly talented with the bow and arrows.. Damn, I can't even describe how beautiful you are.”
She scoffed at that. “As if.”
I growled a little. “Feyre, you better believe me when I tell you you’re beautiful. And I mean it in every sense of the word.”
“You’re gross..” I felt my face heat up a little at that comment.
“Ok.. Maybe not all the senses..” She huffed a laugh. I hugged her close as she squirmed a little to look at me. God, those eyes still made me feel strange.. like I was being lit up or something. I cleared my voice. “The point is… People like him don’t deserve someone like you. You’re too perfect.”
She made a humming noise. “Is that bad?”
“Feyre… If that was bad, you and I wouldn't even be hosting Fifty Question Nights every Friday to see who’s the bestest friend. We were pretty much tied last time.”
“Fair, fair.” Ferye chuckled and I couldn't help but smile. She then sighed deeply, as if she was holding her breath. “Still feel bad about it tho..”
“Yeah I know.” I stood up and dragged her with me. “Which is why we’re eating ice cream and watch some trivia videos.”
She gave me a look. “Ice cream at this hour? The stores will be closed.”
“I may or may have not bought two buckets.” I smirked and she gapped at me. Before she could ask, I spoke. “I was going to eat them for myself..” I dramatically held my hand to my forehead. “But since I have a reputation, I just can't be a greedy and selfish man. So it is why I must share with the damsel knight in front of me.”
“You’re an idiot.” She crossed her arms and I gasped, holding my hand to my chest.
“I’m certainly not!” I said before she punched my shoulder. We both chuckled. “Ok ok, I'll quit it with the drama queen act.” I couldn't help but smile. and I was pretty much relaxed when she smiled back at me with small sniffs.
About a few minutes later, we were on the couch eating the ice cream straight from the bucket while watching riddles on her laptop. She then shifted on my shoulder as I carefully held her close. I hesitated a little but I asked. “How are you feeling?”
Feyre took about a minute before responding. “Maybe a little bit better than a few minutes ago.” I sighed a little before glancing at the screen. “What about you?”
I took a moment before answering. “I feel like I want to send him to the hospital.” Maybe my answer shocked her because she glared at me. “What? Im pissed.”
“I know you are but I told you not to plot your revenge.” Feyre said sternly and I was just about to object when her phone went off.
“Joink!” I took it before she could even grab it. Great, speak of the devil. She probably saw my malevolent smirk because she tried to snatch her phone from my hands.
“Rhys, Rhys, Rhys!” Her voice grew louder with every word. “Whatever you're thinking, it’s a bad idea!”
“I'm not thinking about anything..” I said while I shot him a text: Come here, then we could talk. I then blocked the number, shut down her phone and placed it on the coffee table. “Now we just have to wait.”
“It's nothing important and it's better if you don't know. Let's keep watching the video.” I said with a far from innocent smile. She hummed with suspicion before resting on my shoulder. We've spent another half hour on the couch, now watching people making rings out of wood and epoxy resin, when we heard a knock on the door. Perfect~ “That's for me~”
“Rhys?” Feyre asked in question, saying my name a little longer. I just gave her a wink.
“Relax, Darling.~ Just wait here while I answer the door.” I purred before opening the door. Right there as I expected him to be. “Well well well, if it isn't good old Tamlin.” I smirked when he grumbled in annoyance.
“Is Feyre here?” He asked. I was about to see red and it took a lot of effort to not punch him sooner than planned. So I said instead..
“Wise of you to assume she’s here. Would you like to leave a message?” I said with the slightest of purrs when he tried to shove me aside.
“Just let me talk to-” I punched him harder than I anticipated in the gut. Tamlin fell to his knee, holding himself and gasping when I made him look at me by yanking his blonde hair as hard as I could.
“Listen here you little shit. Don't you ever lay a hand on Feyre.. don't even look at her.. don't even speak of her… don't even think of her ever again. I want you to stay as far away from her. Clear?” I asked. When he didn't reply and punched his face as hard as I could before yanking him to look at me. “Clear!?”
“C-Clear..” Tamlin struggled to speak before I released him and slammed the door to his face. My only hope is that I broke his nose as well. When I turned, Feyre was glancing at me oddly, as if i had just appeared out of mid air before her expression turned raged.
“The fuck was that!?” I just rolled my eyes at her.
“Just straight up did you a favor.” When she kept glaring at me, I sighed in defeat. “I plotted it when I sent him that text.. Happy?”
I could see how Feyre glared at me. “No!”
I sigh deeply and proceeded to sit back next to her. “Listen, I know that any amount of violence does not help you in any way.” I took the empty bucket and placed it on the coffee table. “Look, you’re going through a massive break up and clearly you don't want to be like when your sister dealt with her own by sleeping with random guys.”I made my point because she started to bit down on her lip. I continued while offering my open arms. “So, instead of doing that, why not hug a guy who you trust enough to even hit in the face?” She huffed a laugh at that and hugged me, wrapping her arms around my middle while she sniffed.
“You’re a prick.” She whispered.
“A prick who's willing to support you.” I whispered and held her close and laid her on top of me on the couch. “Also, just because I'm doing this, doesn't mean you’ll get a free cuddle session whenever you want to. Just when needed.” I chuckled when she pinched me.
“I’ll cuddle with you whenever I want.” She said as she nodded on my chest. We stayed silent for a little while when Feyre shifted to my side. “Do I.. really deserve more than him?” My chest ached painfully when she asked that. I caressed her shoulder for a moment.
“You deserve better, Feyre. You deserve someone who will even give you the moon without you even asking it.” I said honestly, but not completely. I wasn't ready, not yet. It's not the time or the moment to confess to her. So instead, I shifted to my side to kiss her forehead. “You deserve the universe. And whoever is lucky enough to accomplish that, they will have my utter respect.” I smirked and she chuckled.
“That’s now a bit too corny.” Her smirk made me groan in annoyance.
“I am trying to cheer you up, not trying to embarrass myself, Feyre Darling.” I smiled when she laughed. God, I would give everything to hear her laugh. See her smile. I shook the thought away and kissed her forehead once, twice, before caressing her golden-brown hair. She sighed and nestled in closer. I swallowed a sigh and asked. “Shall we turn off your laptop and sleep for the night? I can call in and say that we ate something that made us sick.”
Feyre looked at me, frowning. “Won’t Mrs. Weaver give us another earful?” I grimaced.
“Unless you want a stressful day of Physics, my best bet is to stay at home for the day. We can ask Azriel for the class’ notes.” I said with a shrug and she hummed with a nod.
“Alright then.” She said. We got up and proceeded to clean up the living room before laying back down on her bed, not letting go. We cuddled for almost half an hour when her breathing slowed a little and her body had gone still. I could tell she’d fallen asleep. Holding her close, I let my mind wander about what I’d said to her. She could move on, be as joyful as before, then meet someone new and I'll be watching from… I suddenly stopped thinking about it as realization hit me like a bucket of cold water.
My chest ached more than before as it heaved heavily but I took deep breaths to calm down, hoping Feyre wouldn't wake up with the movement. I closed my eyes, trying to think of something, anything… But I couldn't.. I can't fall asleep now… The thought was in my head… And I wondered how I'll manage tomorrow myself.
