vegasohn:
“Yeah, you got your parents’ undivided attention,” she returned the smile. Maddox’s twin was nice enough, she decided. A minute ago, Vega had almost expected some pent up rage to be executed, but the girl was put together and stable…enough. But she could feel that the talk of an only child was only bringing back darker memories, and she moved on, willing herself to think positive. As much as she would have denied it when asked, she did have positive memories of the late twin. “Reckless, it’s right at the top,” she made a motion of stacking something in the air. “Sorta? Oh, no–we were the rivals. I can’t remember how it started but your brother always had to be the best and the problem was, I had to be the best too. It was always who could climb the highest, who could complete a mission faster. Everyone else wasn’t too happy about it.”
Your parents’ undivided attention.
“Guess so,” Nova told the girl, a sad smile on her face though she tried her best to make it seem sincere, even if it was smile. To an only child, that must’ve felt like heaven to hear. To Nova, however, it sounded wrong and hurtful; it was true, in a sense. There was no longer two parts of one person to look after; and the half that stayed wasn’t keen on either talking about it or acting like she did before, which, without argument, would be a lot more troublesome for her parents. The brunette nodded at the other’s next words, nodding in agreement when Vega told her that reckless was a trait that sat right at the top of the pile. “Yeah, guess that’s more accurate,” Nova said, a small chuckle escaping her lips -- it felt weird to her, to pretend to be this happy. Doing the opposite would only prompt people to ask questions, so that was what she had to do. “I can imagine. He thought you were good though, he always told me that. He just said he had to be better.”
kaimana-clarke:
She chuckles softly, “That’s a great way to see it, and now I see where Maddox got it.” Kai’s head tilted hearing her words. She had read the stories of explorers of earth, of earth in general like most on Protogonos. “We do, and I wish it weren’t that way, that there was a safer way”
The slight pinch of pain she felt every time she heard her brother’s name was still obvious to the brunette; but she smiled, like she always did. “Yeah, it’s what we used to say,” a bittersweet taste being left in her lips as she spoke. “I’m sure scientists will figure out a way for us not to ruin this planet.”
christhefixer:
Chris turned her face away from Nova, arching an eyebrow. The tone in the other woman’s voice implied… anger? She remained confused, which was almost always her default expression when interacting with other people and time had not helped. “I did not mean offense with my words,” she said almost apologetically, continuing to march forward.
Nova let out a sigh, knowing she probably let her anger shine through a bit too much. “I know,” she breathed out, looking at the blonde; it had been Nova’s way of saying sorry. She kept walking beside the other girl, burying her hands on her jeans’ pockets. “How’s work?”
lyraseo:
Too much of the right one, actually. The explosion wasn’t supposed to be that big. Oh, yeah, it’s like your own little fireworks show, though broken glass is new. Not exactly a perk.
...So you actually planned the explosion? Nice, I guess. Did you get in trouble?
bradleyfaulk:
A shade of red plagued Bradley’s ears as he tried to make sense of Nova’s retort – he immediately found the double entendre and glanced at the kids (who thankfully didn’t know what she really meant). “You’re a great performer, Nova,” he remarked, trying to hide his smirk (but failing miserably), “Why don’t we give her another round of applause? Actors and actresses need some encouragement before they can perform.” The crowd cheered and he gave her a wink. “Who’ll you be playing today?”
Nova rose her eyebrow and pressed her lips together, a small smirk appearing at the corner of lips as she kept her gaze on Bradley for a few seconds. Then, she looked at the kids and slightly bowed -- were they ever going to walk away or was Bradley going to keep them around just to make things interesting but annoying? “I’m performing today? I had no idea,” she kept her words ambiguous, looking both at Bradley and her crowd of small humans. “Well, I think I’ll be playing a superhero part of a group that saves Protos over and over again, sound good?” she breathed, widening her eyes. “Or do you want me to play someone else?” Nova asked, looking at Bradley.
maltobin:
“Well, you never know. There’s no evidence to completely disprove their existence. If we can live here, so can they.”
Right, but ear this -- there’s no evidence of their existence either.
If you were to build stuff for the all things our ancestors created mythology about, we wouldn’t have parts left.
evamorelia:
“You’re totally right. Grant me another tidbit of your wisdom, oh wise one,” she replied, voice wavering in the slightest as she tried to hold back her laughter. Nova could make anything seem serious, it was a gift, but Eva knew better. And the fact that she knew better also led her to question her cousin’s statement. She wasn’t fine, that much was obvious, but it wasn’t really her place to pry. Not anymore. “We’re both just fine and dandy, aren’t we?” She said, rolling her eyes at the thought. “Burying ourselves in work.”
“Try again tomorrow and I might,” Nova told her cousin -- though her voice was the same as before, her eyes told another story; she had a devious, a playful look in her hues, looking at her cousin as if she had just told her she was going to rob a bank. Nova let out a sigh through her nose at Eva’s statement, pressing her lips together as she gulped; then she spoke, “I’m not burying myself in work. I just like it,” the brunette shrugged.
We all have battle scars. Suck it up and built a brace for yours.
maltobin:
“It may have been a makeshift vampire-repelling apparatus.”
-- Why? I doubt there’s any of them here.
evamorelia:
“That’s incredibly reassuring, darling. I’ll be sure to do something nice with my hair before hand to make my head look as presentable as possible.” She rolled her eyes, a small laugh escaping her lips. There was always a bit of tension in the air between the two of them, and in times like these, it made her wish that she owned a time machine. “Holding up just fine, as always,” she shot back, a weary smile spread across her features. “And you?”
“Hey, I don’t just give out advice out like that. Consider yourself special, Eva,” Nova joked, her voice monotonous, as if she was actually being serious about her words. She crossed her arms over her chest, taking a look around before her attention was back on her cousin, pressing her lips together and shrugging her shoulders as an answer. “I’m fine. What else, right? Busy day?”
evamorelia:
Eva scoffed quietly, her head moving in a gentle shake of disbelief. She’d known that the little rascal had come down this way, or at least she’d thought so. Kids were particularly good at being evasive, however, and she was sure that she’d never find him at this rate. His mother was going to kill her, that much was for sure. With a sigh, she gave Nova a small smile. “Thanks for the help. Hopefully I find him before they lob my head off and put it on a silver platter.”
“I doubt they’d put it on a silver platter. Might just hang it in the lobby for all to learn but never a silver platter,” Nova said, trying to maintain a serious look on her face -- she held on to it for a few seconds before she chuckled at her own words, shaking her head. Then, she looked at her cousin, looking up at down; she seemed tired. Nova would be too if she had to deal with kids (that weren’t Andy’s, that was). “How’re you?”
maltobin:
“It, I.. I was trying to make something from all the spare parts we got lying around here. I hate to see things wasted. In hindsight? I understand I probably looked kinda crazy.”
What thing were you trying to make? Doesn’t seem that... usable.
kaimana-clarke:
“Do you like it? I mean was it what you always wanted to be?” Kai’s eyes shifted away from the wilderness beyond their borders and back to the brunette. Her question sparked something inside of Kai, a reminder of why she loved being an explorer so much. She knew it was never ending, always evolving. “Honestly I don’t think so. In thousands of years we barely managed to explore all of earth, I doubt Protogonos is that different.”
“Yeah. You guys explore the outside and I explore science. That’s how I see it,” that’s how the twins always said it was, when people commented on how different their aspirations had turned out to be. Nova nodded at the other girl’s words, scratching her forehead before she spoke. “Yeah. And we know how their exploring ended, right?”
maltobin:
“A.. radio. Right.
I can’t give a definitive answer until I go and check. Can I, um, ask what for?”
Can I ask what you were trying to do?
maltobin:
“I– oh. You seem to have caught me in a.. rather compromising position. It’s work. I promise. Sorta.”
Right, whatever you say buddy. Do you have some old radio around here?
kaimana-clarke:
Kaimana smiles faintly nodding, “That’s cool, it wasn’t my best subject back in high school but I always found it interesting.” Her eyes shift instinctively toward the horizon. “Vast..it seems never ending. No matter how far we go out there there always seems to be more. but it’s still incredible there’s always something new.”
“It’s a big part of my job, after all,” Nova said, shrugging her shoulders. She liked solving problems, overcoming them and set herself up for another adventure on paper. It was something only other engineers could understand, maybe. “I wonder if we’ll get to the end of it in our lifetime...”
