— The wind whistled along the quiet streets of Jehrico, birds tweeting in the far distance as the night sky dazzled with the flecks of light; stars that were most likely gone along time before we even got to see them. The air was cool unlike the usual desert heat that stifled the day time, instead the breeze was easy drifting along the skin of those who were still awake at this hour.
The sound of a toke on a cigarette was amongst those sounds, the smoke filling her lungs and clouding her body. It was relaxing when you felt like you were the only person on this earth, a small smile pulling at her plump pink lips. She hums to herself quietly happy with her own company and of the animals that were awake. But the sound causes her eyes to snap up landing on the person before them as she nods her head in recognition.
‘‘What brings someone like you out at this hour?’‘ Octavia asks with her silk-like voice, eyes of hazel woodland staring at them with an inquisitive expression. Knowing full well that her time alone was most likely over, not that she was all that sad. Chucking the smoke to the floor she squishes it with her foot and waves awkwardly.
One of the things Nova treasured most about her job were the moments after, when she’d hit the streets of Jericho to walk home after a grueling shift, the world around her still and filled with absolute silence. Most patrons weren’t out and about at this time, leaving the girl alone with her thoughts as the only sound for miles around were usually her overly tall heels clicking softly against the pavement. That night at the strip club, it’d been a 70s celebration, so Nova was decked out from head to toe in obnoxiously bright colors and old clothing that had been butchered with craft scissors to look sexy. Nothing says hot like women half dressed in ugly leg warmers and a neon bra with hair teased higher than hell.
She’d just finished frustratingly tugging a strand of colored plastic from her champagne curls when the sound of another’s voice made her jump, the woman nearly toppling over in her devil heels as she lost her balance in surprise. “Holy shit,” Nova huffed, a hand flying to rest on her chest where her heart was nearly about to beat right through, “Ya scared the ever livin’ hell out of me!”
She drew in a slow breath, gathering her composure so she could have a proper conversation with the brunette who’d just ambushed her in the dead of dawn. It was unlikely for her to ever run into another person at this time so she wasn’t in anyway prepared to see someone else roaming around.
“I jus’ got off,” Her other hand motioned over the exposing scraps of fabric clinging to her body, “Work the pole n’ what not. What are you doing out here? Other than scarin’ me half to death.”
