Novak beat John Millman 6-3 6-2 and won his first Japan Open title, his fourth title this year and his 76th career title.

Novak: “He made me work for my win today and the atmosphere was really good on the court. I enjoyed it. I think I played a pretty good tennis match. From the baseline, I was solid, aggressive when I needed to be and taking the ball early. I served very well until that game when I was serving for the match at 5-3. I made some double faults, I missed all my first serves, and allowed him to break back and come back into the match. But there were not too many negatives today, because I had chances constantly. I had match points at 5-4, but he just came up with some very good shots and fought hard and that’s why we give him credit. But from my side, I’m really pleased.”

Novak visiting some sumo wrestlers in Tokyo

Novak: “It’s a great experience. I’ve never had this experience before. It’s one of the most popular sports in Japan. Speaking with my father yesterday on the phone I was telling him that I’m going to have an opportunity to meet sumo wrestlers. He and I were remembering many years ago at home [when] we used to watch Akebono [Tarō, who reached Yokozuna status], who was someone that we supported a lot.

It’s quite impressive to see also how flexible they are. I believe at the beginning they were demonstrating their flexibility. I didn’t think that they were that flexible considering it’s a heavyweight sport, but I see that they are paying a lot of attention to the mobility of their joints and the flexibility, which is of course what allows them to move around as agile as possible at their weight.”
