Newest work: Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows pt 2 (Melissa)
Current series: the chronicles of pig the giraffe (Natasha)
The most tragic thing Netflix has ever done is cancel Warrior Nun. It's genuinely one of the best shows they had. The plot was so original, you had complex characters with interesting relationships with one another, and the lore was actually so interesting. I will forever mourn the lost potential of that show.
Pairing: Bellatrix Black x Rita Skeeter, Narcissa Black x Alice Fortescue

A/N: guess who had another burst of ADHD and sat to write this long ass fic in the space of a day? Me. Enjoy this sad quillkiller/nobleflower fic <3
âYouâre a fucking coward and I never would have done this to youâÂ
Narcissa didnât swear - not that Bellatrix knew of anyway.Â
Of course, Alice would tell you something different. Alice would tell you that when you grazed your teeth over a certain spot on Narcissaâs neck she would whisper out a soft fuck; when the waistband of her underwear was pulled back and snapped against her skin sheâd mutter out french curses.Â
But Bellatrix didnât know that.Â
What Bellatrix did know was that her whole life was crashing around her.Â
Who did she choose, herself or her sister?Â
For the first time in a long time, she chose wrong.
~~~~~
Being a 6th year at Hogwarts had made Bellatrix confident. She had earned her reputation of being untouchable through hard work and some well placed curses. She was so confident she freely hung out with Skeeter, a lesser pureblood.Â
Rita had also built her reputation up, perhaps with more difficulty than Bellatrix, she was a Black of course, but had built it up all the same. Rita had gone from being an unnoteworthy pureblood to completely controlling the gossip scene at Hogwarts. Rita Skeeter knew every single dirty little secret at Hogwarts and if you thought she didnât know yours, you just had to give her time and sheâd find that out too. Everyone knew not to cross Rita, just like everyone knew to steer clear of Bellatrix. The two of them made quite the intimidating pair.Â
It was strange though, Skeeter never seemed to attack the House of Black with nearly the same amount of venom she ripped chunks out of others. That was the first sign that there was something more to the seemingly innocent truce between the two predators. There was a nervous energy to the Hogwarts student body when thinking of Bellatrix and Rita. Some thought they were firm rivals, only leaving each other vaguely unharmed due to mutually assured destruction. Others thought there was true respect between the two. A select few, only those closest to the pair, knew the truth.Â
Narcissa was one who knew. She had walked into Bellaâs room one day and found the two of them biting and licking and scratching at each other. Rita was wearing Bellatrixâs quidditch shirt and Bellatrix was wearing nothing. Safe to say Narcissa now knocks every time she visits her sister's room. They were like two pythons entwined, fighting for dominance and their next meal. It was almost hypnotic to watch the two of them. Unfortunately, Narcissa had a secret of her own.Â
~~~~~
Alice Fortescue was a cocky, arrogant, self-righteous ass.Â
Narcissa Black was a sneering, haughty, stuck-up bitch.Â
When the two got paired up in a potions class, everyone thought it would end with one of them dead. Narcissa and Alice certainly tried to kill each other. Alice knocked Narcissa off her broom during a particularly intense quidditch training session and Narcissa retaliated by messing up Aliceâs work in charms.Â
Somewhere along the way the knocks in quidditch practice became a little less violent and a little softer. Alice once landed on top of Narcissa during a scuffle for the golden snitch and Narcissa had forgotten how to breathe. To this day she blames her breathlessness on having the wind knocked from her but Alice knows better. Alice only knows better because she too had lost her breath, seeing Narcissa sprawled out beneath her had fueled her in ways no man had ever done.Â
Once Alice realised she didn't hate Narcissa but was hopelessly, madly in love with her, things got awkward. Alice stopped talking to Narcissa altogether, trying desperately not to fall deeper into a slytherinâs trap. Narcissa, who was also grappling with her own confusing emotions, decided she was absolutely not attracted to Alice and made out with Lucius Malfoy. Alice knocked him out cold during the final quidditch match of the season. Narcissa had found that unreasonably attractive and had kissed Aliceâs knuckles while the latter blushed and stuttered.Â
~~~~~
âHurry up Andyâ Narcissa called out to her trailing sister.Â
The trio of sisters always sat together on the train. It was unfortunate that this would be the last year they would do so.
âI didnât know you were so eager to return to mother and fatherâ Andromeda shot back, lugging a large suitcase behind her.Â
Bellatrix waltzed past them, levitating her luggage gracefully behind her. âCome Andy, has all that time with blood traitors made you forget your spells?â
Andromeda huffed and the three of them climbed into their unofficial cabin.Â
The train ride was long and the girls kept themselves entertained but all three had their minds on someone else. They were all eager to get back to Hogwarts but the spring holiday had a long way to go.Â
Three days had passed since Bellatrix had last seen Rita and she was starting to go a little mad.Â
But there was a plan.Â
A tap tapping at the circular window in the loft alerted Bella to her guest. She opened the window and in flew a beetle. Bella shuts the window softly and turns around, Rita already sitting on a dusty desk pushed up near the loft wall.Â
The Black family Manor is an imposing building. Even Bellatrix, with all her bravado and a presence large enough to engulf Hogwarts, was nothing but a small shadow compared to the looming family home. Rita thought it was strange yet fitting that Bellaâs family home made her seem so small.Â
âYou're late.â Bellatrix said dryly, âWhat was it this time? More gossip on the Lestrangeâs?â
Rita smirked and crossed her legs slowly âNot this time. Thereâs something brewing at the Longbottoms. Not sure if itâs worth my time thoughâŠâ
Bellatrix stood in silence, eyeing up Rita like prey. Thatâs what Rita loved about Bellatrix, the way her eyes always held just a glint of danger, of something lurking below, like a caged animal that was lulling you into a false sense of security before ripping your arm off.Â
âBesides,â Rita continued âyouâre one to talk, you thrive on disappearing. I was starting to think youâd found someone âmore suitableâ to fuck. Maybe a Rosier or a Malfoyâ
Bellatrix pushes herself off the beam she was leaning on and stalks over to Rita âYou know youâre the only one interesting enough to hold my interest.âÂ
Bellatrix unfoldâs Ritaâs legs and nudges herself between them, standing dangerously close.Â
Ritaâs breath mingles with Bellatrixâs and she softens slightly. âBella⊠If your parents find out they won't just disown you, theyâll kill me. Imagine the stain on their reputation if their eldest daughter is fucking some unknown, lesser, pureblood.â
âThey wonât find outâ Bellatrix mutters, her lips getting closer to Ritaâs âIâve covered my tracksâ
Rita pulls away as Bella leans in for a kiss âThis is dangerous.âÂ
The two sit in silence for a moment, the gravity of the situation weighing heavily on them.Â
âI think my parents might suspect something.â Bellatrix whispered out
Now Rita pulls away fully, looking at Bellatrix with betrayal, âAnd you invited me here anyway? Where they could find us at any minute? I knew you were crazy Black but I didnât think you were that insaneâ.Â
Bellatrix pushed her lips onto Ritaâs, the kiss passionate and desperate. Rita wrapped her legs around Bellaâs waist and pulled her closer, her hands tangling in Bellatrixâs untameable hair. Bellatrix gripped Ritaâs hips like she was going to float away. Nails began to bite into skin and, like everything involving Rita and Bellatrix, blood was about to be spilt.Â
Rita bit Bellatrixâs bottom lip and relished in the slightly metallic taste that entered her mouth. There was something they both found addictive about bleeding and being bled. Eventually the two pulled away from each other.Â
âYou have to be more careful Bellaâ Rita breathed out. âI canât lose you.â
âI will be. Donât worry.â Bellatrix kissed Ritaâs forehead, enjoying the way her blood left a mark on Ritaâs skin.Â
âYou could give them something else to look atâ Rita said quietly, as if she hadnât meant to say the words.
âWhat do you mean?â Bellatrix pulled away slightly, looking at Rita.
Rita refused to look back and Bellatrix âNarcissa.âÂ
âWhat?â There was a bite to Bellatrixâs tone now. She may love Rita but no one threatens her family.Â
âI heard she was getting close to a particular lion.âÂ
âPart of the 28?âÂ
âNoâ
Bellatrix was silent. She couldn't have a blood traitor sister. Her parents would kill Narcissa. This relationship had to be stopped now. It was bad enough she was getting close with a Gryfindor, let alone someone not part of the sacred 28. Narcissa would understand, from what Rita had said she didnât seem too close to this person.
âWho is it?âÂ
âAlice Fortescue.â
~~~~~
Dearest A,
It has been almost a full week since the end of term. I cannot believe I havenât been able to see your face for so long. I was stargazing last night with my sisters and it reminded me of our own stargazing adventure last Autumn⊠Do you remember it? I wore your scarf - I think Bella would have a heart attack if she saw me in red and gold. You bought house elf wineâŠÂ
âI canât believe you convinced me to lie to the house elves. Youâve officially corrupted me Blackâ
Narcissa giggled, the cold autumn air biting lightly at her cheeks as Alice sat down next to her. âGood. You were too well behaved. What did you tell them?â
Alice passed Narcissa the bottle of elf wine, letting her take a swig âOne of the house elves owes me. I told him it was for âlate night studyingâ and he believed me!âÂ
Narcissa let out a content hum âMmm this is goodâ She sighed into the cold night air.Â
âCareful, complements will make me think you like me.â
Narcissa paused for a moment âI do like you. Probably too muchâ
Alice let out a lound, dramatic gasp âA Slytherin? Liking a Gryffindor? Someone call Skeeter because I've got the scandal of the century.â
The two laugh a little before the tone gets serious again.
âYou joke,â Narcissa starts, staring out at the stars, âbut my family would disown me if they knew what weâre doing.âÂ
Silence falls over them.Â
âI know. Thatâs why I won't tell anyone. Not even Frank, and heâs my best friend.âÂ
Narcissa pushed Alice âI thought I was your best friend.â
âI donât kiss my friends. Sorry Cissa.â Alice grins and leans in to kiss Narcissa. Their lips meet gently and softly, like there's no rush.Â
They pull away and Narcissa lets out a soft sigh before shivering.Â
âAre you cold?â Alice asks, unwrapping her scarf and giving it to Narcissa âHere, wear this.â
Narcissa smiles gratefully and puts the scarf onÂ
âYou look good in my colours, Cissa.â
A peaceful atmosphere falls over them both, Narcissa points out different stars and Alice chimes in with her own made up stars and constellations. For a while thereâs only the sound of wind and the occasional hoot of an owl.Â
âDo you think about what happens when we leave Hogwarts?â Narcissa breaks the silence.Â
âSometimes. I see myself joining the Aurors, trying to make the world a little less awful. What about you?â Alice turns to face NarcissaÂ
âMarriage. Heirs. Money.â Narcissa takes another mouthful of the wine, the bottle was almost empty, she noted.Â
âThat doesnât sound like much of a dreamâ
âItâs not. But if I give my family what they want of me then they wonât look any deeper into who I am.â Narcissa looks at Alice now âThey wonât find out about you.â
âYou could run. We could run.â
Narcissa laughs, not unkindly but with an edge to it âAnd go where Alice? My family have eyes and ears everywhere. Weâd be hunted and Iâd- Merlin, Iâd be the reason you lost everything.â
âIâd give up everything for you.â Alice intertwines her fingers with Narcissa, her thumb rubbing her hand.Â
âI know Alice, I know.â
Meet me by the large willow tree to the south of my familyâs property.Â
Yours,Â
N

Bellatrix knows.
She knows that Alice and her sister are a thing.
She knows that Blacks love in an all-encompassing way.Â
She knows that to save Rita she must sacrifice Alice.Â
Bellatrix remembers seeing Alice at a Quidditch match once. She had been a scrappy first year and had performed surprisingly well. It was no wonder Narcissa was infatuated by her. But thatâs all it was, infatuation. She would get over Alice, Bellatrix convinced herself. She became obsessed, spiralling until she was sure the only way out was to betray her sister.Â
Alice had to be the sacrificial lamb.
Bellatrix smoothed out the piece of parchment in her hand and she read the words again. It was a little hard at first, Aliceâs scrawl was not the neat cursive the Blacks were made to write in. The handwriting was warm, familiar, filled with affection. âI miss youâ âtell me when to comeâ âIâll wait for youâ
âFucking hell Cissa.â Bellatrix muttered. Of all people, a blood-traitor. A Gryffindor.Â
âShe doesnât know what love is. Itâs not real. Not like me and Ritaâ But a voice in the back of her head disagreed.Â
~~~~~
Bellatrix had known for 2 days. She had sat on this information for 2 whole days. Her parents were inviting the Lestrange family that evening and Bellatrix had a horrible feeling she knew why. She had owlâd Rita, explaining the situation, that she was most likely to marry Rodolphus, but she had never imagined what the outcome would be.Â
Bellatrixâs father flew into her bedroom, the mahogany door slamming open. Bellatrix jumped, quickly composing herself and smoothing her face into one of indifference.Â
âExplain this.â Cygnus held out a letter.Â
Oh⊠stupid, naive Cissy Bellatrix thought as she took the letter from her fatherâs hand.Â
The letter was clearly written by Alice. Bellatrix unfolded it and read the contents of said letter. She kept her face cool but anger was building. It detailed how Alice would run away with Narcissa, how she knew Bella had a secret - a secret similar to that of Narcissaâs.Â
The world got quiet.Â
Bellatrix looked up from the letter and saw Narcissa standing behind their father, tears glimmering in her eyes.Â
She would survive this.Â
Alice would not.
Rita would not.
Not if her family found out.
Words came tumbling from Bellatrixâs mouth before she knew how to stop them. She wasnât sure what she said, just that Cygnusâ face grew harder and colder and Narcissaâs face grew wetter and redder.Â
It was Druella who decided the sisters had to watch. Cygnus cast the cruciatus curse at Narcissa to remind her what happened to blood traitors. Druella decided Bellatrix and Andromeda needed to be warned what would happen should family values be forgotten.Â
The screams of Narcissa would haunt Bellatrix for the rest of her life but it was worth it. It was worth it to save Rita. Bellatrix believed that. She had to.Â
Rita released an article a week later detailing every little secret the Black household had titled âThe Noble and Most Ancient House of Blackâ.Â
~~~~~
Bellatrix was married off to Rodolphus and Narcissa was betrothed to Lucius Malfoy. Andromeda ran away with her mudblood boyfriend.Â
The Noble House of Black was shattered, splintered over one letter. Or perhaps they were always headed this way, from the very moment Rita said a shy âhelloâ to Bellatrix, or when Alice first smiled at Narcissa.Â
Bellatrix will never hear the sound of Narcissaâs voice again.Â
Narcissa will never see Alice again.Â
Years later, Rita Skeeter will interview an insane woman she once knew.Â
The life of Bellatrix Lestrange
By Rita Skeeter
The atmosphere in Azkaban is tense. The walls are damp, possibly contributing to Bellatrix Lestrangeâs frizz. Or perhaps hair care isn't a top priority for the Dark Lordâs right hand woman. Bellatrix has an almost bored look to her face when I ask her about how the Dark Lordâs death has impacted her.Â
As I am sure some of you are aware, Bellatrix and I both attended Hogwarts together. It seems strange to see the brightest witch of her age sat slumped in a cold, hard cell. She was once so full of life, hexing students when they looked at her strangely that now she is seemingly half dead.Â
Some say Lestrange has always been mad but as someone who has known her longer than most, I have to set the record straight. Bellatrix Black was a genius. Bellatrix Lestrange was cunning. The Bellatrix in front of me is neither of these things. It is a shame to see that she is the shell of her former self. Only she knows what happened to her former self.Â
Summary: a potion that allowed you to smell your crush - what could go wrong?
Notes: tba
Smarts had never been Narcissaâs problem. If anything, perhaps her intelligence had hindered her. Intellectually she understood attraction, understood why boys like Lucius found her pretty and how girls like Andromeda found boys like Tonks handsome. She could appreciate a good jawline or well tended hair as well as the next person and she had no shortage of suitors who loved to take her out into Hogsmeade. Her issue arose with the topic of supposed âsoulmatesâ. So, when Slughorn told the class they would be making Amortenia potions, Narcissa rolled her eyes.
You, a half-blood witch, as Narcissa loved to remind you, were reluctant for a very different reason. Being placed in Slytherin meant Narcissa had the joy of constantly arguing with you. In your third year, the rivalry got so bad that it seemed that the two of you had spent more time in the infirmary than you had in your dorm. You had a sneaking suspicion you knew what your potion would smell like. You were in your fifth and final year at Hogwarts and somewhere between the pranks gone wrong and the infirmary visits, you had unfortunately developed a slight crush on Narcissa.
What started as annoyance at how her hair was so bouncy turned into awe, the annoyingly smug look she got on her face slowly turned cute and her swirling blue eyes - well they were always stunning.
To Narcissaâs surprise she smelt something. She inhaled deeper, letting the scent curl into her nose and down her throat. She could almost taste the combination of honeysuckle and warm oak. It wasnât an unfamiliar smell but Narcissa refused to acknowledge who it belonged to. Unfortunately, her overactive mind refused to forget. Where before she had managed to block the thoughts of those around her, one particular personâs thoughts practically screamed at her.
Narcissaâs legilimency had been a closely guarded secret. She struggled in her first year at Hogwarts, not accustomed to being around so many unfiltered thoughts, but she soon learnt how to drown them out. Mostly she just heard snippets of deeper desires. A few words here and there that, if pressed, would have developed into full thoughts. She liked to think of the thoughts people had like a garden; at the surface you had the flowers and grass - the conscious thoughts, then you had the roots - the subconscious thoughts that led to the conscious ones, and then there were the bees. The bees were the base desires; food, water, sleep, sex, and Narcissa always did her best to block those out.
Across the table, you shift uncomfortably under Narcissaâs gaze. It seems as though she has zoned out but the intensity of her gaze suggests otherwise. âShit does she know⊠why is she staring⊠oh no sheâs planning on getting revenge for the time IâŠâ
Narcissa inhales sharply, building more barriers up between her mind and yours but doesnât manage to look away from you.
âIf youâve got something to say Black, say it.â You let out, concern making your tone snappier than maybe it should have been.
Narcissaâs face morphs in front of you, her almost dazed look altering into her usual cold indifference. âWhat does yours smell of?â
âWhat does yours smell of?â You bite back
âNarcissa raised an eyebrow âI asked first, half-bloodâ
You let out a scoff âVanilla.â
âHow bland.â Narcissa responds as her chest does something funny. An unbidden thought that she doesnât smell like vanilla crossed her mind but it was banished as quickly as it had come.
You lean back in your chair, studying her âI answered your question - now you tell me what yours smells like.â a smirk plays at your lips as you wait for Narcissaâs answer.
A rush of heat floods Narcissaâs face and she immediately freezes. She canât tell you the truth.. This is not how a Black behaves - she does not like an irritating half-bloodâs smirk. Still, the weight of your thoughts pressed against her hastily thrown up walls.
Why does she care so much about what my potion smells of? Should I have lied about what mine smelt like?
Narcissa stiffens âStop thinking so loudlyâ
âExcuse me?â
Oops. She hadnât meant to have said that.
For a long while neither of you spoke. Then, slowly, you lean towards Narcissa over the table, watching as her eyes dart between yours and her lip begins to work between her teeth - the only tell she is full of anticipation.
âCan you hear my thoughts?â
Narcissa lifts her chin defiantly âThatâs none of your concern half-bloodâ
Your smirk widens âOh but Cissy it is.â A flash of concern covers your face âWait does this mean you can hear⊠everything?â Oh shit can she tell I lied? Does she know I - Shut UP ohmygosh think of anything else DO NOT THINK OF NARCIS- cats dogs horses fish goa-
âOh would you look at that, it's the end of the lesson.â Narcissa hurried out of the class before she could hear any more.
~~~~~
Narcissa storms out of the library, her heart pounding far too quickly for her liking. A few days had passed since Slughornâs lesson and, much to Narcissaâs annoyance, her thoughts had been solely on you. The corridor was dimly lit, betraying the amount of time Narcissa had spent pouring over books. She was sure the potion had gone wrong. Yes. That was the only reasonable explanation as to why her mind was constantly on you.
Narcissa had been doing a brilliant job at avoiding you. It was quite the feat really, considering you shared a dorm. Unfortunately, it seemed like her luck was about to run out. You had spotted Narcissa leaving the library and after days of not seeing her, decided to do something reckless.
Black!
Narcissa span around, coming face to face with you. âWhat?â she bit out.
âI knew you could hear me.â
Narcissa looked at you as you leaned lazily against one of the stone columns, arms folded. You looked far too smug for someone who should have been groveling for shouting in her head.
âYouâre imagining things.â
âAm I?â You scoff as you take a slow step closer âIf thatâs the case then why havenât I seen you for days? Why haven't you tried hexing me?â
She should hex you
She should silence you with a glare before returning to the Slytherin common room where she rightfully rules.
Rather, she does something foolish.
She reaches into your mind deliberately.
Itâs intrusive, dangerous and entirely uncharacteristic of her but she needs to know. She needs to know if there is the chance that you could feel the same way.
Narcissa forces herself to snap out of it, straightening her spine and trying to ignore the fluttery feeling she has. âStay. Out. Of. My. Head.â
Your smirk falters slightly âWhat did you hear?â
âThis was a mistake. You need to stay away from me half-bloodâ
~~~~~
In the weeks that follow, Narcissa does everything in her power to avoid you. She has swapped rooms with another girl, pretends not to notice when you enter a class and refuses to acknowledge the way her pulse quickens when she catches your gaze across the Great Hall. Most importantly, she refuses to be alone with you.
And yet, despite her best efforts, she canât seem to escape you. Your thoughts still slip into her mind unbidden, when she least expects it. Faint echoes of irritation when she ignores you, flickers of hurt when she walks past you as if you're nothing.
Worst of all, she feels the ache of distance too.
The frustrating, infuriating pull of something unresolved.
What did you lie about?
How can you gaze at her like that and not have smelt her in your potion.
It all comes to a head late one evening in the Slytherin common room.
The common room is quiet, the fire crackling lazily in the hearth as a few students sit curled up in the emerald-green armchairs placed by the fireplace. Narcissa is sitting at one of the far tables, tucked away in a corner, going over a letter her aunt had sent her.
She doesn't have to look up to know youâre watching her. She had felt your presence the moment you had entered the room.
Your thoughts are filled with irritation fueled by hurt why does she keep ignoring me
Narcissa doesnât react.
Then-
Fine. If she wonât speak to me then Iâll speak to her.
Narcissa barely has a moment to prepare before youâre dropping in the seat opposite her. You donât say anything at first, just watching her as she refuses to look up from her letter.
Narcissaâs gaze lifts slowly âDo you mind?â
âYes actually. I do.â
Narcissa exhales sharply âYouâre being ridiculous.â
âAm I?â You tilt your head âBecause from where Iâm sitting, it looks like you are. Why have you been avoiding me?â
âI haven't been avoiding you. Perhaps you're just so odious that I can't stand to be around you.â
Narcissa was triumphant for a second before seeing the look on your face.
Thank god I didnât tell her the potion smelt of her
Narcissa was stunned.
Her breath caught in her throat.
If you had had a crush on her before, there was no way you still would have one now. Not after how she had treated you these past few weeks. Her mind is a storm - anger, frustration, sadness. She hates the way her heart aches every time she pushes you away. Narcissa was so wrapped up in her own thoughts she hadnât noticed the abrupt absence of your own.
She looked up and realised you were gone.
Why did this feel like the biggest mistake of her life?
~~~~~
It takes two more days before everything goes to shit.
It happens late at night, Narcissa had needed something mindless to distract her from the dull ache left in her chest. Sheâs walking through an empty hallway when she hears footsteps ahead of her.
Her heart stutters - she knows who it is.
âWait-â She calls out âDonât walk away again?â It wasn't supposed to come out a question but perhaps her uncertainty is what makes you pause.
You should keep going. Or say something cruel, cut her down like she has you, but you donât. Youâre just so tired.
Tired of pretending.
Tired of running.
Tired of not having Narcissa opposite you anymore.
Narcissa watches you, something raw and unguarded in her eyes. âTell me the truth.â
âAbout what?â You swallow, curling your fingers at your sides.
âWhat did your potion smell of?â
âNarcissa, I canâtâ
Narcissaâs jaw clenches. âWhy not?â
âPlease donât make meâ
Narcissa pauses, the broken tone of your voice cuts through her and she realises sheâs going to have to be very brave. Braver than even a block-headed Gryffindor.
âMy potion smelt of you, you know.â
There.
Itâs out.
The truth is free. Narcissa feels exposed as she watches your expression soften slightly.
âMine too.â A soft smile lights up your face âUh- I mean mine smelt of you- not that it smelt of meâ You stumbled over your words, your face heating up the longer you rambled.
âYouâre such an idiotâ she mutters.
You blink âExcuse me?â
Before you can get too offended, Narcissa reaches over and kisses you.
Itâs not soft or delicate or anything innocent.
Itâs a collision.
Itâs what happens when an immovable object meets an unstoppable force.
Itâs years of tension and defiance and longing.
For a second Narcissa freezes because your lips being on hers is real and terrifying and intoxicating, and she doesnât know how to think. Maybe she misread the situation.
But then-
Then you grab her collar and pull her closer and for the first time she lets herself melt.
~~~~~
For weeks you and Narcissa steal moments in shadows.
A brush of fingers in a dim corridor, a lingering glance across the Great Hall, a whispered conversation in an empty classroom. When the risk is low, kisses - hidden behind bookshelves, behind statues, behind the very walls that had once confined her.
One evening, you pull Narcissa into a dark alcove, your eyes glinting with mischief âYou know Cissa, I think you actually like sneaking around with me.â
Narcissa rolls her eyes âDonât flatter yourself Half-bloodâ
Where before half-blood had left you feeling cold, you soon learnt that it was Narcissaâs way of defying her parents.
You smirk. âYouâre literally hiding in the shadows to be with me.â
Narcissa arches a brow. âYouâre the one who pulled me in here.â
You grin wildly. âYou didnât resist.â
She refuses to dignify that with a response. Instead, Narcissa grips your collar and pulls you down into a searing kiss, effectively shutting you up.
You hum against her lips. âI think Iâm in love with you.â
Narcissa freezes.
you tense slightly, realising what you just let slip, but you donât look away. You hadnât meant to let that out but you were glad you had. Besides, it was only a matter of time before Narcissa found out. She had an unhelpful habit of using her skills to read your mind.
For a long moment, Narcissa just stares at you, heart pounding.
Then, finally, she exhales and whispers, âI think I am too.â
You blink, then grin - the kind of grin that makes her stomach flip. âWell, well. Narcissa Black. In love with me.â
Narcissa smacks your arm, but sheâs smiling.
For the first time in her life, happiness isnât something distant.
Itâs here, in the stolen moments, in the quiet confessions, in the warmth of the one person who sees herânot as a Black, not as an expectation, but as herself.
i know this might be controversial, but enough is enough.
as someone who grew up in the rigidityâand, at times, oppressive natureâof roman catholicism, i am so tired of the religious!reader trope where theyâre portrayed as so innocent theyâre practically a child. we were not innocent. we knew the names of our bodies, the weight of shame, and the crushing complexity of guilt. i knew that my vagina was a vagina.
the sheer amount of extremely innocent!religious!reader fics is unsettling. they turn the reader into this caricatureâwide-eyed, naive, almost infantilized, complete with pigtails and an oversized cross necklace perfect for a porn video thumbnail.
for meâand for a lot of other lesbians iâve bonded with over religious traumaâit was never about innocence. it was about guilt. guilt over pleasure, guilt over sin, and all the ways we punished ourselves for being human.
we werenât these overgrown children teetering around in purity. we were messy, complicated, and burdened by shame in ways that were far more nuanced than these portrayals ever capture. enough, please.
Okay so now itâs been well over a year since it happened I feel I can finally talk about how CRAZY it was that when I had newly joined tumblr I got absolutely dragged for saying I didnât get why Bruce and Natasha were briefly dating in that avengers film and that she had better chemistry with other characters.
This fresh perspective makes me realise it was never that deep đ theyâre fake characters babes.
Scared to even mention the ship name tbf in fear of resurrecting them to come for me đ
Summary: The 4 times Lenny says 'I love you but...' as a joke and the one time she means it.
A/N: Sup my people. I hath returned. This fic took me like a few hours so apologies if it's not up to my usual standard. I'm currently on an Aubrey binge so possibly expect some rio x Agatha one shots too. But Lenny, my beloved, you deserved some happiness. Might do therapist!Lenny too cause that changed my brain chemistry - lemme know what you think!

âDude I love ya but you gotta let me know when you have the last of the chocolate spreadâ Lenny huffs, a smile playing on her face as she leans her forearms on the kitchen counter.Â
You rolled your eyes and walked over to where Lenny was, reaching across the counter, you grab the jar. Your fingers brush together for a moment before you move away, jar now in your hands. You dip a finger inside, collecting what little there is of the chocolate spread and lick your finger.Â
âMmmâ You let out a contented hum âSeems like thereâs more than enough spread here.âÂ
You smile cheekily and twirl away from Lenny as she launches herself across the counter in an attempt to grab you. Eventually she manages to grasp your wrist and pulls you into her, grabbing the now empty jar.
âYouâre a menaceâ Lennyâs smile is infectious as she berates you.
âBut you said you love me.â You pout.Â
2
You groan as pain shoots up your spine, the force leaving you breathless. You close your eyes and let darkness slip over you. Then, you feel something poke your cheek. You open a single eye, letting the sunlight briefly blind you before a shadow blocks it out. Lennyâs head pops into view, her hair falling like dappled shade. It took you a moment to realise she was laughing at you. You were too entranced by her smile; something that seemed brighter than the sun. Then again, you weren't sure you could trust your judgement as it could be the concussion talking.Â
âCome on kid, up you get.â Lennyâs laughter finally dies down enough to help you up from the grass.Â
âThis isn't funnyâ You grumble âit really hurtâÂ
âAww baby did it hurt?â Lenny teases, giving you what you assume are her best puppy-dog eyes.Â
Your eyes narrow âYesâ you bite out as you rub your tailbone. Truthfully, the only thing that really hurt was your pride.Â
Lennyâs index finger drums on her lips âIf only someone had tried to warn you.âÂ
âUgh shut upâ You smile and shove Lennyâs shoulder. In doing so, Lennyâs laughter starts back up again, this time itâs a definite cackle.Â
Eventually the laughter dies down and Lenny reaches over to pluck a stray grass blade that got tangled in your hair. âI love ya but you have to stop thinking you can do things with no prior training.â
âBut it looks so easy!â you had seen a video of someone doing it on tiktok and knew it couldn't be that hard.
âLike ice skating?â Lennyâs smile looked innocent but you knew it was anything but.Â
âYou promised you wouldnât mention that.â
The ice skating incident had happened a year ago. You had never been ice skating before and the girl Lenny was supposed to take she had broken up with so you went along instead. Lenny had continuously asked if it was okay but you had seen how much she wanted to go skating. Who were you to stomp on her dreams? So the two of you had gone and you had nearly spent the full hour clinging to the wall. Lenny had offered to help guide you but that had gone just as badly as your attempted backflip. Long story short, the two of you had landed in a heap on the ice and there had definitely been some blood.Â
Lennyâs laughter cut through the memory âCome on my gymnast, let's grab lunch.â

It had been your idea to play monopoly. It was a slow day for the both of you and it had seemed like a good idea at the time. Thing is, you hadnât played it since you were 17 and couldnât remember why. 3 hours in Lenny had figured it out.
âI think I know why you haven't played monopoly for years.âÂ
âHuh? Why?â You say, your brow relaxing from the tightened expression that was etched onto your face.
âHow close are you to bankruptcy?â Lennyâs smile grew on her face.
You let out a harsh bark of laughter âNowhere near it thanks.âÂ
Lenny made a noncommittal sound and rolled the dice. You bit the inside of your cheek as you realised you were very close to bankruptcy. Monopoly brought out a side to you that wasn't all that pretty and you were beginning to remember why the game had been banned in your house. Distinct flashbacks of arguing with siblings and exes over cheating allegations were slowly trickling back. Unfortunately you were in too deep now. If this realisation had come to you maybe an hour and a half ago, you probably could have calmly backed out but alas, now you needed to win.Â
Two more hours passed and Lenny was solidly winning. You had cheated your way to this point but there were no more 10s or 20s for you to steal from the bank and the likelihood of getting caught rose when taking larger sums of money.Â
You let out a loud huff. âFine! You win. This is a stupid game anyway.âÂ
âI love youâ Lenny said laughing as the two of you began to tidy the game away. There was a pause before she continued âBut youâre such a sore loser.âÂ
You watched as she put the money into the correct piles. You and Lenny said âI love youâ all the time - you when you wanted something and Lenny when she was giving friendly criticism. Something about this time seemed different.Â
4Â
Lenny was ill. She didnât get ill often but when she did, she was very ill. Sheâd been coughing for days and you were very weary of getting ill too. You had quarantined her in her room and hadnât felt guilty about it till the splutters had turned into full blown coughing fits. The shop bought soup you had got clearly wasn't working so you called out to her that you were going shopping and to text if she needed anything.Â
You returned half an hour later with all the things you needed. You boiled the chicken carcass from the roast you made a few days ago and put in onions, garlic and carrots. You then seasoned well and left it to gently simmer for a while. You squeezed some oranges into a glass and knocked on Lennyâs bedroom door.Â
You were invited in between hacking coughs and saw Lenny lying on her bed like death itself. You adjusted your mask a little and began to pass her the glass of orange juice.Â
âDo you need help sitting up?âÂ
Lenny just groaned in response. You nestled the glass between tissues on the bedside table and gently moved Lenny into a sitting position. Lenny picked up the glass and sighed contentedly as she drank it.Â
âThereâs chicken soup on the way so just hang in there for a bit.â You said as you began to clean up the tissues, glad you had put rubber gloves on.Â
âYou donât have toâ Lenny said weakly, her voice hoarse from coughing.Â
âDonât be dumb.â Was all you said before leaving the room to check on the soup.
The soup finally looked and smelt done so you spooned some into a bowl and brought it into the room. You sat down on the bed next to Lenny and watched silently as she ate. You could see her struggling to stay awake as she got closer and closer to the bottom of the bowl.Â
âGo to sleep babe. You'll feel better.â Â
Watching tv killed a lot more time than you thought it would. The sun had dipped a few hours ago and you hadn't been bothered to turn on the lights so you hadnât noticed Lenny creep out of her room to come and sit with you on the sofa. The sofa dipped and you startled slightly, looking over at Lenny in the soft glow of the TV, she looked marginally better. The thick blanket she had wrapped around her shoulders nearly engulfed her but it was strangely charming.Â
âHow are you feeling?âÂ
All Lenny could manage was a gentle whine until you opened your arms up and let her snuggle in. You adjusted yourself slightly so you were leaning back more as she tucked her head under your chin and wrapped her arms around your waist. The warm weight of her soothed you as you slipped your hands under the blanket to draw patterns on her back.Â
âLove ya but you looked dumb in that mask.â Lenny mumbled out, her tongue heavy in her mouth and voice thick with cold.
Your chest rumbled with gentle laughter âAnd I love you but if you give me that cold Iâll never forgive you.â
The gentle sound of the tv seemed to lull Lenny back to sleep before she could answer. You continued tracing patterns up and down her back, neck and scalp until you too drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

Youâd like to say it came out of the blue. That you werenât expecting it. That no one could have seen it coming. But that would be a lie.
When Lenny had first started saying âi love ya butâŠâ the âlove yaâ had been rushed, hurried, something to placate so she could deliver constructive criticism. Even the lack of the full word âyouâ had signaled its casualness. You werenât quite sure when the sentiment had changed but it had.Â
Lenny had been eeking the âi love yaâ out longer and longer, almost as if she was seeing how it tasted on her tongue. She clearly decided she liked the taste of it as she had begun saying âyouâ rather than the typical âyaâ.Â
Unfortunately for everyone involved, you were pretty thick headed when it came to crushes.Â
When you were twelve a girl you met at summer camp had sat down next to you on the bridge over a little stream and kissed you on your cheek. You had remembered the way her lips burnt on your skin for years afterwards and only when you were telling Lenny about the experience did you realise it was because she probably had a crush on you.Â
That wasnât the first time something like that had happened either. On the day before your ninth birthday your next door neighbour said he had a special present for you. He hadnât liked you playing with your best friend more than him so he gave you a badge that said âEthan is my Bestest friendâ and had asked to kiss you. You, being nine, and a very accomplished âgirls kiss boysâ player had immediately ran away, waiting for him to chase you. You never understood why he had looked so sad.Â
Back to the present, Lenny was looking at you very much how the girl from summer camp had looked at you. You were talking about nothing in particular as you cooked as Lenny sat on the kitchen counter.Â
âI love you.âÂ
You looked up in surprise. âButâŠ?â You said, following the usual conversation pattern.Â
âNo buts kid. Not this time.â Lenny said, her expression more serious than you had ever seen it.Â
Your brow furrowed in confusion as your eyes trailed over Lenny. Her eyes held no glimmer of humor, her jaw was clenching and unclenching slightly - something Lenny only did when nervous. You held eye contact for a beat longer before breaking out into a smile.Â
Summary: The 4 times Lenny says 'I love you but...' as a joke and the one time she means it.
