Meowdy...
Someone close to me has confided that they would like to be more gender non-conforming and wear makeup, and asked if I could buy them those makeup sets on Amazon... the ones that are like 30 dollars and all inclusive of eyeshadow/blush/foundation/lipstick/everything.
I'm pretty sure those won't be any kind of quality and I want this person to have quality choices. Any suggestions on decently affordable but good quality makeup I can buy for this person? A nice eyeshadow palette with lots of variety, lipstick in different shades and formulas, eyeliners, etc? Not sure what to do about foundation because obviously that's harder to match and I have no idea what their shade will be, but yes.
Hey there! I'm not sure where your friend is in their journey, but I have a few suggestions.
First off, you're right. Both for quality and sanitary reasons, I wouldn't recommend buying makeup from Amazon.
Second, I'd caution against going all out with funky shades to start with. A nice selection of cool, neutral, and warm tones in both eye shadow and lipstick is where you want to be. I remember my first try at makeup and feeling very "wrong" because I chose the fun, bright colors were so jarring.
As for quality and affordability, if you're in the US, you can't go wrong with Walmart. I tend to buy NYX and e.l.f. for the things I know I want and need. Wet n Wild for the things I might want to try out, since its a cheap brand. If you need to, buying a cheap concealer or foundation variety from that brand might be worth it for skin tone matching alone. I believe they also have some cheap brush sets.
Its also worth it to check sales at drugstores on occasion. I know CVS runs some good 40% off sales for things I normally wouldn't get because price.
I hope this helps!
