does diego speak? or does he use sign language or broken words/sentences? basically just wondering how the dirty boy communicates or if he does at all!
it depends how long he’s inhabited this body! at first, he was completely silent. unable to comprehend most of what was said to him but eventually he would respond with nods or shakes of his head once he’s found some resemblance of control over basic motor functions. (safe to assume for the majority of his early life after the crash was spent staring at shit and trying to make sense of it)
then body gestures come into play; shrug of his shoulders, arms crossing, hand movements.Â
speech is the tricky one. words sound wet and gargled and horrendously slurred in the beginning. playing puppet with a cadaver isn’t as easy as it seems. all those muscles, all those tendons. god help anyone who catches him without his helmet and sees what he considers a smile is. it’s all trial and error from here.Â
he still doesn’t really get the hang of it and slips up from time to time. sometimes forgets to move the mouth when speaking, so it’s just a groaning rumble varying in pitch. forgets to blink, or his blinks are unsynchronized.Â
he’s a hungry mimic. if he’s around someone, he’ll begin to copy their movements and speech pattern. then he’ll move on, find someone else that interests him, and the pieces of personality he’s collecting begin to form thick layers and now he’s got something to work with.Â
