It’s still dark as I tuck the pups back into bed. My partner is still sleeping beside me, getting rest they rarely can enjoy. I put in my headphones, and try to write one more sentence on this path to a new future.

Me: *trying to quietly eat some crackers in the kitchen so I don’t wake anyone up in the house*

My Dogs: yes hello good morn, mother! shall we join you for a spot of breakfast?

I am exhausted.

I have given up perfection.

It took a lot for me not to give up my dreams along with it.

…but despite these world-weary bones and flickering candle flame of the soul, I’m still here—even when so many others aren’t any longer—so I might as well keep going.
