Thoughts on SOAD situation

In case you aren’t aware, the guys in System Of A Down have been going back and forth for a while about whether or not a new album is on the way. Most recently, Daron has spoken up to say that we should not expect a record soon. 

The reason for this back and forth are that Serj no longer wants to create heavy music anymore. The rest of the band is still on board with creating metal, but Serj has moved on to quieter music. All of this once again raises the overlying question: will there or won’t there be another System album?

Obviously, I cannot speak for the band, but it is my belief that Serj will not bend. If his heart is no longer in it, he won’t be forced to make more metal than he already has. The band already had to plead with him to work with them on Mesmerize and Hypnotize. 

This leaves a few possible outcomes. System could continue without him, with Daron or someone else on lead vocals. However, it certainly wouldn’t have quite the same magic to it. The band could remain in limbo, or split up, leaving the guys to work on their respective side projects. Or maybe, just maybe, there’s a glimmer of hope that we just can’t see right now. While I have expressed my doubt, don’t forget to hold out at least a bit of hope. And no matter what happens, we’ll always be able to treasure what we got the chance to witness, to experience, to be a part of.
