Nonpoint - Statement
Nonpoint is still technically a band with tha same vocalist and drummer but don't be fooled by their imitation of tha band that put out this album. Statement was one of tha hardest hitting nu albums to come out in its era with a very positive aggression very reminiscent of downset. They had bigger hits with "What a Day" and "Endure" but this was always my JAM. SEPARATE YOURSELF.
They...have...RETURNED YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
20 Days of jaNUary Day 7
ill Nino - Revolution...Revolucion
ill Nino first of all...have tha nuest name. A pun on el nino, tha tropical storms, to ILL...like their BEATS homie! Cot damn! Not only THAT!...but ill Nino had one of tha forgotten nu trademarks...tha additional unnecessary percussionist! And, later on, even a DJ! THA NUEST! Not to mention they had on this album Marc Rizzo in their ranks; numetal ROYALTY who went on to be in Soulfly AND Machine Head!...and then when he left...they got Ahrue Luster from Machine Head! And if you don't know, Machine Head put out one of tha greatest albums of all time, nu or otherwise, "Tha Burning Red" but that's another entry.
iLL NINO...they're pretty siC and one of tha most djent, 2nd maybe only to Sevendust. Their debut full length "Revolution...Revolucion" is one of tha best numetal albums of all time. THA TITLE IS EVEN BILINGUAL! They pretty much pay tribute to tha Latin nu-metal godfathers Soulfly (even covering them at tha Primitive Tour I saw them on with Insolence and Shuvel) while making really catchy and innovative arrangements. Definitely like...tha worst lyrics ever but I remember when this song came out, I thought it was tha blueprint. They'd find a lot more commercial success on their next album "Confession" which was less djent and a lot more singy so OBVIOUSLY less awesome, but this was tha HIT off of RR (oh I like that), "What Comes Around."
20 Days of jaNUary: Day 6
LOZTPROPHETZ - START SOMETHING
Loztprophetz are a band from tha U.K., Wales specifically, that really made a big impact to me early on. I remember getting a 2-song sampler of their Fakesoundofprogress demo album and being OBSESSED with it. Well this isn't about that album. Fast forward a couple of years and they dropped START SOMETHING which is like...an eleven out of ten masterpiece. You may even remember their anthemic hit "Last Train Home" all over MTV2 and radio around this time. Knowing that song you may think that Loztprophetz aren't a nu-metal band after all; well guess what! THEY HAD A DJ!...so I don't need to explain anything any further to you. Start Something was perfect: it was infectious with tha opener "We Still Kill tha Old Way", had great riffs like tha pre-chorus to "To Hell We Ride", tha hardcore sound and desparation in tha title track, and tha nu aggression of THIS banger..."Burn, Burn."
Sorry about tha delay in tha 30 (probably ending up being 20) days of jaNUary, but all I care about anymore is cyber goth girls.
30 Days of jaNUary: Day 5
INSOLENCE
Trying to take a break for a day with a band from tha RoadRunner Roster I was reminded of Insolence. Insolence, in all reality, is probably one of tha best bands in terms of succesfully integrating rap into rock. In fact, in Insolence's earlier days, they were very much a hardcore band with an additional rapper vocalist. They found their mainstream fame thanks to tha show Farmclub.com which ruled and used to come on after Monday Night RAW every week. Any true nu's know what I'm talkin' about. Trunu. Copyright. But anyway, they put out a bunch of independent albums including one completely hip-hop effort before bein' signed to tha majors and putting out one album before becoming a legit numetal band...by being dropped from their label. However they still found lots of success in Japan with a varied line-up and with a way poppier sound that also was very...reggae? Like Long Beach Dub Allstars or something. I remember Insolence also always had tha sickest DJ. DJ Hermit I believe. Dude fucked it up. So here's tha only music video they ever had for a re-recording of their indie hit "3rd Eye Satellite" reworked as "Poison Well." Remember tha movie Driven? I saw it on a plane once. This song was playing in it. I geeked out. Sick.
30 Days of jaNUary: Day 4
36 Crazyfists
Most nu-metal bands top out on their first album. Maybe that's because most nu-metal bands didn't even get to make a 2nd album before their label dropped them or they realized tha dream was over. But in some rare cases like with Spineshank's "Height of Callousness", tha sophomore effort is even better than tha debut. Such is also tha case with 36 Crazyfists. Most people know 36 Crazyfists as tha only band ever from Alaska, but I know they as tha band I saw on RoadRunner Records' website without a promo picture and assumed they had 18 members. Their first album "Bitterness tha Star" is for sure my FAVORITE but this beauty "A Snow Capped Romance" is actually their BEST. I know they think they're a metal band or something now but tha melodies on this album in songs like "Destroy tha Map" and tha matured aggression on "Tha Heart and tha Shape" really are infectious and tha 3 seconds of djent in tha chorus make me want to fight a car. But this is tha 1st track. Tha jumpoff - "At tha End of August."
30 Days of jaNUary: Day 3
CRAZY TOWN
Alright let's be real. You know who Crazy Town is. "Butterfly" was a massive hit worldwide and you sang it in your car every time it came on and got psyched during tha scene tha girls dance to it on Orange County. Crazy Town is pretty much thought of as a joke or as a one hit wonder or whatever but CxT was sick. Tha Gift of Game album had guest spots from Jay of Orgy fame and KRS-One of extremely famous rapper fame. Their band had Shifty Shellshock who you might know as either tha vocalist on Oakenfold's "Starry-Eyed Surprise" or that crackhead dude from Celebrity Rehab. Their DJ, DJ A.M. recently died in a tragic plane crash and was universally mourned as he was a friend to many prominent musicians and finding his own solo success. Their songs were pretty much all sicker than Butterfly and even though their 2nd album was them trying to not be tha Butterfly band, I still spin it once or twice. But for now, this is tha classic that got me into them, and my midi ringtone at one point, "Toxic".
