Something I've always had an issue with when it comes to Animal Hospital is the scale of this "infection"
And it just got worse with this update lowkey-
During this update we got some timeframes and vague explanations behind the anomalies:
John A. Nomaly discovered the existence of the "Anomaly gene" and wrote a book about it and it's nature, he was planning on curing every disease an animal could cary with his genetics research (probably involving the aforementioned anomaly gene). The hospital was founded by him 30 years before the events of the game for the purpose of research.
We don't know when or why but Nomaly is no longer working on the project and it's continued by Dr. Harlow currently. We know Harlow worked at the very least 5 years in the hospital but we don't know how old the certificate is so to say exactly 5 years would be speculation and wrong.
We know this anomaly gene is present in every single animal according to Nomaly but we don't know why or how it could be causing the outbreak/infection because clearly if it was present in everyone for ages then whatever research Normal/Harlow is/was doing had to trigger this response in some way? To me it just feels like a case of playing God going horribly wrong but again that's speculation... and also holy shit js stop the research it's clearly not going in the right direction
and then again, a thing I've mentioned in my Liz post ages ago but there's something about it being linked to ONE SINGULAR hospital (from what we know) just rubs me the wrong way. It feels very small. we know there are IRL countries in the Animal Hospital universe and that the action takes place in Korea. The whole outbreak is canonically only affecting an AREA of a Korean city 🥹 And it being genetic implies there needs to be a trigger for the transformation/mutation that Liz links directly to the hospital which means to even become an anomaly you probably have to go to the hospital, MULTIPLE times. this is so fucking dumb idk man.
I mean sure, there could be facilities like the Animal Hospital all over the country or even world seeing the end goal of this research is curing all diseases (which would benefit everyone) but this is purely a speculation, nothing in the canon refers to things outside of the hospital and it's general vicinity.
Genuinely the only reason this outbreak doesn't feel like a total preventable joke is the fact Animal Corporation is pushing for further research despite what the research is currently causing (probably) and the influence they have as a company 😭😭😭
It being genetic pisses me off i kinda wished it was chemical contamination or a microbe thing, Genetics was my last guess
ALSO HOW IS THIS GENE MUTATION ALTERING REALITY... WILL THEY EVR ELABORATE ON THAT?(cameras, reflections, shadows...)
