The first thing that caught Gladion’s attention as he plodded into the cafe was a wave of aroma from floral teas and freshly baked pastries. As he ventured further into the cafe he couldn’t help but feel nostalgia creeping upon him, childhood memories stinging the back of his mind. He observed a mother and son sharing castelia cones together, the mother glanced up at him and her smiled dropped, bringing a hand on her son’s shoulder in a protective manner. Gladion scoffed and with a roll of his eyes continued to the counter. He didn’t really blame her though, Gladion was aware his sense of style was quite…Intimidating? Intense?Approaching the counter, Gladion was once again surrounded by a reminiscent fragrance. He observed the barista behind the counter and furrowed his brow. It was Roserade tea, a mangenta colored beverage with rose petals and jasmine tea. That explained why it was so familiar.
Gladion recalled a faint memory from his childhood, he was sitting with his mother and Lillie at a cafe not too different from this one. Lillie was giggling as their mother leaned over and wiped the ice cream Lillie had smeared all over her lips, his mother wore a gentle, loving expression as she playfully chided Lillie for making a mess. Hersoft expression turned on Gladion, and she gave him a warm smile as she elegantly lifted her cup of tea to take a sip.
He pulled himself out of the memory, heart thumping painfully in his chest. Bringing his hand up to his forehead, he closed his eyes and released an inaudible sigh. Gladion internally berated himself, There isn’t a point in thinking of the past now, I need to concentrate on more important things. Gladion brushed his fingertips through his bangs and composed himself, walking up to the cashier, he ordered a tapu cocoa. To avoid small talk or starting a conversation, Gladion swiftly accepted the small mug and gave the nervous man an abrupt and short.
Gladion pivoted on his heel and made his way to the tables, intending to find a quiet corner seat and drink his steaming cup of cocoa in peace. Instead he froze, a mixture of horror and frustration clenching his throat. Oh arceus no, the cafe was filled with groups of trainers who had just come in after a long day of training to relax and while their pokemon healed. He turned hastily turned to the exit, if there wasn’t an empty table inside, he would just have to sit outside-…or not. He watched in dismay as rain drops battered against the window of the pokemon center, mouth opening in exasperation. Gladion closed his eyes and cursed whatever higher being that was tormenting him,.
Turning with reluctance, he approached the table closest to the corner and gazed at the person already seated. He gripped the handle of cooling cup of cocoa and grit his teeth, forcing himself to keep from glaring at his, hopefully, table companion.
“Hey, do you mind if I sit here?”
His tone was leveled and the words eloquently spoken, he tried to keep the frustration from lacing his words and patiently waited for the individual to give him a confirmation. All while thinking. I should have just stayed at the foundation, why do I put myself into these situations?
