"Ah, I’m quite sure that even if I were found, all would be fine. The people of your kingdom all seem so kind and welcoming." Anyone with eyes could see that this was far from the case, and yet that naive innocent grin remained on his lips. It was almost as if he truly believed his own words. Almost.
Her questions went on, and this time he would not provide her with any answers. Dead silence fell around them for a few long moments, a sly smirk ebbing to his lips, the overall features of his face suddenly taking a darker turn, an alarming looking glinting in his eyes. This occurred in seconds, and just as soon as the look crossed his features, it was gone. As if it had never crossed his face at all.
"That’s right, Princess! The competition is certainly today, isn’t it? I don’t want to miss it!" And just like that, that same naive look was back on features, giving a wide nervous grin and rubbing the back of his head. "Could you imagine? That would be awful if I showed up late and unprepared! I’d better go get ready!" Some more nervous laughing and the white haired boy turned and ran straight out of the room, leaving the door open behind himself.
The Princess would be left to silence at last, a few moments of peace in her room. If she had paid attention to the little noises going around the room, she might have picked up on the sound of footsteps. Coming from right in this room, if she had sensitive enough ears to pick up on exactly where they were located, and the sound was coming closer to her with each noise.
And then, without warning, a silhouetted figure appeared right in front of her face. There was no distinguishable features, as if a person made from the shadows had appeared right in front of her. It’s eyes, skin, everything about it- none it appeared to be absorbing any light to reflect off and give him color. The only physical trait aside from the utter lack of would be the wide pearly white sharp-toothed grin stretching on it’s face.
Everything about it appeared unreal, as if it were some horrid nightmare the woman was having in spite of her eyes being wide open. The question of whether it were a dream or a nightmare was quickly answered when the very real feel of it’s hands went straight for her neck, and if successful, would have applied pressure and leaned forward. Taking the breath from her and starting to push her towards, but not necessarily out of the window.
Eloise stared at the other, alert of every movement they made. She blinked once, brows knitted together in slight confusion when he spoke so confidently. Sure, the royals were gracious to their allies and to their people. However, that didn't mean if someone was out of line or that they grew suspicious of ones actions, that they would get off easy. Eloise was fully aware of what her parents could do if they so willed it. It wasn't pleasant to say the least but she understood that they were the rulers and if they so much as bent their knees for someone else, they might lose their crowns.
“Yes but entering my room is forbidden,” she tried to be firm with her words but it was evident that she was wary. Although her voice was stern, her standing on the other side of the room and looking like a cornered rabbit gave a much different image. When all was said and done, she wasn't getting anymore answers out of him. The silence that was evoked out of him was eerie and the temperatures in the room dropped even greater as a strike of fear crawled into her veins. “Sir...?” She questioned, noticing that something looked off and for a glimpse, she thought she saw a devious expression swipe upon his features.
But as soon as she blinked, it was gone. Was she going mad?
Eloise's chin jerked up a bit at him addressing her. His voice was again chipper, confirming that she was only imagining things. “It... is... later this evening it is,” she replied, wondering why it seemed that he did not know. “Perhaps if you're with the others, they would have prepared you more? They probably are wondering where you are,” she explained, not certain how it was being organized at all. She was only to observe from a high place and in the end, choose who she wanted to betroth.
Eloise forced a gentle smile at the other, nodding once as he quickly turned and left. “What a lost prince,” she murmured, relaxing some after she was left to her own quarters. The temperature slowly returned to normal as she made her way across the flooring. Approaching the door, she shut it but lingered by the entrance, pressing her forehead against the wood. A sigh escaped her lips as hundreds of thoughts raced in her mind. “If only there wasn't a war...” they wouldn't have to join kingdoms with anyone in order to gain allies.
She didn't want this.
Eloise perked her head up and shifted her gaze to the side, brows pulling together in concentration. “Hello?” She moved away from the door, wandering pass her dresser and then turning in her step to walk backwards. Her eyes shot open wide and she nearly tripped backward over her own feet, stumbling until the backs of her legs hit the side of her window seat. Only a gasp of air was sucked in and before she could let out a scream, her throat was caught in the bony digits of an ebony monster. Her window was cracked open to let the cold air in, a way for her to pretend that it wasn't her just causing the bitter temperature in her own room.
Unfortunately, this allowed the window to swing open wider as her cranium bashed into the window pane. Her teeth gritted and her eyes rimmed with salty tears, she wasn't crying out of pain. It was mainly fear and shock that coursed through her veins. Automatically, her fingers caught onto the window sill to hang on for dear life. In doing so, crackling sounded throughout the room. It popped and snapped, louder and louder, it grew as the wall became encased in frosty ferns. Spikes of ice began to enclose around them, growing pointedly at the monster and daring to dig deep into its form if it did not move backward in time.
