Ry huffed, crossing his arms and looking this guy up amd down. He needed to think, was he being that guy or was he really bad with faces? It was hard to decide but he decided to go easy for a secind, “Oh, really? I look like someone else? Shocking. Great. I wonder why you think I look like someone else.”

Pilip, completely unaware of the implications of his tone, continued to try and dig himself out of this hole. “Yeah, I definitely think it’s the hair. That’s just, a weirdly popular hair style around here. Did you already have that? When you, you know, landed? Or have you changed it? Because I’ve been debating changing mine, but I’m not sure if I could pull it off, y’know?”

"Yeah? Nah, I haven't changed it," He sighed and uncrossed his arms, shoving his hands into his pockets instead. Ryouichi figured this guy wasn't being, well, that guy. He sure did ramble a lot for a guy who didn't seem to get anything, though, "I guess I've seen this style before, don't pay much attention though. If you want to change your hair I say go for it. Unless you're goin' for a bowl cut or a mullet, I say do it. At least here there ain't no harm in tryna do something different."

Perhaps once Ilse got back to her own world, she would write an entire dictionary of the ridiculous things children told her here, “That’s preposterous. But intriguing. Are there other things that should be said when punching someone?” Did punching people happen more often nowadays than it did in England?

Ryouchi crossed his arms and tapped a finger to his cheek, looking thoughtful in a fake way, "Oh, there's so many things you can say when punching someone, you can say just about anything. Vibe check is really special though, and it's a certain type of hit for a certain situation. But it's still not mandatory to get one, but I suggest you duck if you hear someone yell it."

Ryouichi almost choked on his water and coughed out a laugh, he covered his mouth and tried talking through it, “Y-you, ahem, you don’t know what a vibe check is? It’s…it’s a random time when someone checks your vibe. Usually by hitting you with something. They yell ‘vibe check!’ and hit you or something. Then after that your vibe has been thoroughly checked and you can go on your way.”

Okay, this kid was definitely younger than her. Perhaps it was something only people of a certain age knew, a generational difference. “I hadn’t seen people hitting, I just read it on the… Twitter? The Twitter,” She was fairly certain that’s what the application had been called, “Does everyone have a vibe check? You can’t punch people over the phones, can you?”

On one hand Ryouichi felt a little bad, she seemed to be genuinely trying to get to know him. On the other hand…how could he trust her? He’d die of embarrassment if he told her about himself. It wasn’t just not entirely trusting her in this world, but also in his. What if the portals opened back up and some power-hungry-kid-hating adult jumped through? And they were a dragon? Even if she didn’t seem to hate him some people could turn on you faster than you could say ‘delightful children’.

Besides, she could be lying about her being a hero! It’s probably what Ry should have done about his age, it’s not like the council was going to carbon dare him, “I mean, you seem cool, bit really there’s nothing exciting about my world to tell you about.”

Jo couldn’t tell if the kid was just really bland or if he was acting extremely suspicious. Didn’t kids his age have interests and friends and hobbies? Maybe not in his ‘world’? Jo was barely gettign used to not everyone being from Earth.

But dang, since when were teens so boring? She was almost a little disappointed he didn’t take her up on keeping his middle name a mystery, but maybe he really was just a boring kid. Not likely, but possible. Depending on long they were in town, maybe he’d eventually warm up to her, “Alright, alright. But I’m, yknow, like… here for you and stuff,” Wow, so eloquent, Jo, “Nevermind, I was never super good with kids.”

Ryouichi paused for a moment and smiled despite himself, he tried to neutralize his expression but settled with a small smirk, "Uh, thanks? I guess? But I'm not a kid. I am seventeen years old and technically we stop being kids once we turn thirteen years old. Uh...we being young....people. Of course. Or anyone who's ever aged I guess."

Man he was doing a lot of guessing today. From some of his homework to twice in two breaths? Oh, and such a great save. Ry's plan to seem like a normal boring teenager was going super great. He felt ridiculous, there wasn't even a reason for him to

Ryouichi stopped in the middle of the street, half a bucket of candy in his hand, a pretty good feeling in him, and suddenly everything had went pitch black, "Ugh, you've got to be kidding me," He sighed and pushed down his night vision goggles (which were his real actual spy night vision goggles), but those just made his sight worse, "Aw dang, the thing's broke!"

He pushed them back up and looked around trying to make out other people in the sudden darkness. He spotted someone and waved, jogging over to them in his all black costume, "H-hey! Hey! You know what's going on?"

Morrigan had been out shopping, she’d completely forgotten that she was going to need candy for tonight’s holiday, and that’s how she ended up lugging a giant bag of candy toward her apartment. As if by magic, every light went out. Morrigan wasn’t one to be afraid of the dark, but when even the sky showed no sign of sun, moon, or stars, she began to feel... uneasy.

A voice came out of nowhere, making Morrigan jump, “Great Oz!” She composed herself before continuing, “Sorry, I didn’t see you there! It’s dark.” She added then mentally kicked herself. Of course the other person could tell it was dark, “I uh, unfortunately do not know what’s going on. Why are you wearing all black?”

Ryouichi shrugged in response to her question, "I dunno why are you in green make up? What are you supposed to be dressed as, the Wicked Witch a' the West?" He crossed his arms in that way a teenager does when they think they've verbally burned someone.

"I'm dressed in black because it's my costume. You know, Halloween? But...anyway, your costume is cool. But the lights...do you know, I mean, was that supposed to happen but I didn't get the memo?" He wasn't trying to come off as rude but he felt extremely uneasy and it was showing.

Do I have to pay for it?” Ilse felt almost like a student again, having to take note of all the new words she was hearing. Slang was all over this “internet” thing Ilse was barely getting used to, perhaps she should do a piece in the newspaper about it!

He raised an eyebrow at her. What exactly was she implying? He kept his arms crossed and his face fell into a bit of a frown, “Back home I do normal kid things. You know, run around, school work, my job, and hang out with my family.

’I also fight villains of all ages and my job at a hardware store is fake. Oh, also my entire family is made up of spies.’ Yeah, he didn’t think he wanted to tell her that.

“Besides this isn’t home and I don’t plan on making any special connections while I’m here. Just keep up with my school work and stay on my game until the portal thing gets figured out,” It was a little harsh but he was having trouble connecting to people while unable to trust them. He’d put himself in a friendless loop to observe others and stay on task.

“Uh huh. And I do normal adult things like turn into a dragon and breathe fire,” She couldn’t help but chuckle at how hard Ry was trying to sound ‘normal’, “I’m just saying I don’t know anything about you, man! We live together and I’m technically in charge of you, but you barely speak two words to me.”

Jo figured it wasn’t logical to feel insulted or negative. He spoke the truth, this was not anyone real home and they were under no obligations to anyone else in town to make nice. Maybe some part of Jo just wanted to connect with people the way she connected with her old friends, “Fair enough, but if you try going a year without telling me your middle name, you’ll lose.”

Ryouichi Jun Sanban-Beatle was not a quitter. Not even in the most tough life-threatening situations he’d ever faced. Ry had seen the many evils of his world, dentists, teachers, Father, and the worst of all of them…homework.

Of course homework was just a sub-category off teachers, but that was a technicality.

Ryouichi was sitting on a picnic bench in some park away from the person he’d been put to live with. Some adult who just thought they knew what was best for him when they clearly did not. Only six people knew that, and that was classified information!

Ry huffed, thinking over how his life had got flipped and turned upside down so quickly to the point where he was actually sitting there doing a history report. For an actual class. He knew he couldn’t actually write about what really happened during the American revolution, they had all been brainwashed to forget about the valuable help the KND had offered to the war! So instead he sat there stewing in his thoughts with his papers and books spread all over the table.

He was even about to begin writing when some else sat down at the same bench. Ry would have ignored them but talking (even if he really didn’t want to) was better than this, “Uh…yo. I’m kinda working here. Can I help ya?”

He hadn’t noticed the kid next to him until he started to speak. Truthfully, he only sat down on this particular bench because it was the ideal spot for gesture drawing. This area seemed to have the highest amount of foot-traffic and it would be excellent speed-drawing practice for him. He’d seen some street artists work at incredible speeds, and he knew he’d need much more practice with such techniques if he wishes to compete.

Tai would’ve stated as such, but the kid’s tone is rude and he’s not in the mood for it. So, instead, “What, you own this bench, kid? You carve your name on it? Last I checked, everything in this park is public property, ‘yo’.”

Ryouchi's hands flew up in a mocking sign of surrender, "No no absolutely not. I was just checking, just hope my stuff all over doesnt bother ya," He smiled innocently and leaned on his arms to see what the guy even had in his hands. A sketch book? Oh great, another artist. What could this adult do, draw a killer cartoon? Ry laughed at the thought but quickly looked away from the other to not draw suspicion. He was already wary of every adult in town and he definitely didn't need an enemy.

He decided to go back into his reading, but man the history textbook just reeked of lies. In a world where adults only existed because of kids the adults sure did like to brag about themselves a lot. Especially the people who wrote this book. So instead he looked back up at the guy and started talking again, "So watcha drawin'?"

Had he been excited about having to have an adult ‘look out for him’? No. So he stayed out as long as he possibly could and left as early as he could. He really had no interest in being friendly, so he just liked to keep it short and polite. At least his mom would want him to be polite with her…unless Ry found out she was evil. Then it would all out war like it was at home, or something like that.

If the kid didn’t want to be home 24/7, that wasn’t really Jo’s problem. She spend tons of time out when she was his age. Though that was usually with friends, doing things. As far as Jo knew, Ry had stayed pretty far away from social goups since he got here. The anti-social-ness or the way he flinched around her? Now, that made her a little worried.

“Now kid, you don’t have to tell me anything about your old life or treat me like a roommate, but I gotta ask, what kinda kid stuff do you do?” She raised a brow, “I may not be a real diligent ‘guardian’ but i know a kid staying away from home when I see it.”

But again, there were worse things in the world than not having to baby sit an independent 17 year old.

Ry suddenly recognized her as another teacher from this world and sat up straighter. He couldn’t show a teacher of all adults that he was uncomfortable, “Yeah, Mr. Green, pretty easy work. Guess they have lower standards for students in this world.”

He spoke smugly though the truth was that he was getting the problems as easily as the next person. He was a great student back home, he understood the material and everything, but he only turned in enough homework and assignments to pass. He knew that sort of behavior annoyed teachers, especially the evil one who taught his trigonometry class at home.

Jo stifled a laugh at the boy’s defensive posture and attitude, taking him as a student probably trying to hide their work. Almost like when she caught students cheating on their exams, though of course she would never accuse someone without evidence. If he wanted to hide something, that wasn’t any of Jo’s business, “Oh, really now? More like low standards for some of the teaching. None of my students are stuck doing mountains of homework in a park,” She shrugged it off, popping a credit card out of her wallet and scraping the gum off her shoe best she could.

There is a small store there around the corner though, it’s where I got all this,” He gestured to the odd variety of snacks he’d gotten, “And I’m sure they sell it there.”

Josephine gave the boy an odd look, mirroring his pause and discomfort. She didn’t know exactly why, it’s not as if he couldn’t have expected other people to be in the park, “Yeah, I figured, I was just joking,” She would’ve be sincerely surprised if this teenager really had rubbing alcohol on him. Perhaps he was just put off because he wanted to be studying, she couldn’t blame him for that. With a glance to his homework, she understood why, “You’re studying for Mr. Green’s class?”

Damn it. Again? Jo held herself back from groaning loudly in a public place. The amount of gum on these sidewalks was ridiculous and laughable. Where was the city clean up? New York was cleaner than this place. 

Okay well, maybe not cleaner. But Jo never got gum on her work shoes when she was living in the Big Apple. She sat a the nearest bench and aggressively tugged her credit card from her purse, aiming to scrape the gum off her heels in time before it hardened.
