THE POUNDING HEART OF MEDITATION
Sometimes meditation is closing your eyes and breathing.
And sometimes meditation is standing up and saying, “Enough. Fuck it. I’m going to live.”
Sometimes you don’t need more rest.
Sometimes you don’t need to “sit with your feelings” for another hour.
Sometimes you need to get up and take the step you’re terrified of.
Start the class. Go on the date. Have the hard conversation. Leave the job that is draining you. Move house. Change your life, even in a small way, even imperfectly.
Meditation without action can just become another hiding place.
Because the body doesn’t only heal through softness.
It also heals through fire.
Through standing up and stepping forwards with a pounding heart!
- Jeff Foster
When you welcome a feeling
without resistance,
it loses its power over you.
The moment you choose to
FEEL it rather than FLEE it,
it begins to FLOW through you,
revealing its wisdom.
This understanding
could change your life.
- Jeff Foster
And so we begin ...
For the longest time I've been wondering where to start here. And then I read a quote that said "You'll never feel ready because ready isn't a feeling, it's a decision." And, well, damn ... you right. LOL.
The best things in my life that have happened to me have been when I decided to take the leap, when I've decided to follow what I've manifested, when I've decided to listen to my inner voice and feeling, take the opportunity in front of me and go for it. Risk it. Smart risks, or just risk in general. But trusting in it to land.
And then there is that fine balance I always tell people. It's the in between of trust, planning, letting go, and yet being grateful. It's acknowledging that you have really created the life that you are making. So, yes, the shit that goes on inside you. The shit that goes on inside your brain and or the disconnect between your brain, heart, and spirit. All of that .. that gets created here in your reality. I don't doubt that one bit. I don't doubt that everything is connected.
Once I started meditating, reconnecting to that inner world, that voice and spirit inside, I swear I've been able to manifest the life I want for myself and for my family. And no, its not perfect. No, its not easy. In fact, its the hardest shit to do, really. But worth it.
There have been many "ah-ha" moments where I connect the dots. I venture back to being a kid and why I felt that way. I venture back to memories of hurt and pain, and why we went through that to grow. And I don't let it stay there too long. It's not my identity. But it is something that allows me to grow.
And I think doing the inner work. Me having to grow and find the connection in spirit and in body, I broke the generational curse. I feel like I even possibly broke my life karma in that, I won't need to keep being reborn on earth to learn a lesson. I can decide if I want to return in the next life. But I'm getting ahead of myself a bit.
So come journey with me in my brain / spirit. Because actually, my inner voice has been speaking to me in blog form, writing, and wanting to share it to others in the longest time. I just finally decided to take the leap and show it here. I've always journaled, and I will always journal for myself and for my spirit to slow down and talk to one another. But here, let's see what happens here. It's a differrent connection. A diferrent sharing. One that I think I've missed in a very long time.
So cheers to this new journey! As a mama to now 2. As a spirit guide returning with new levels. And as a woman simply building and growing. Because age is just a number, its what you do with life that makes it magical.
People deny the truth for psychological protection against painful realities, to avoid cognitive dissonance (mental discomfort), to maintain their self-interest, or to defend their cultural and political identities. Denial can serve a temporary purpose, allowing individuals to process difficult information, but can become unhealthy and harmful by preventing them from addressing problems or accepting change.
When you're aware, important life moments hit differently
Since meditating and hitting new levels of spiritual growth, awareness for me hits differently than it did before. Awareness in the memory, the moment, the mindfulness, the present. All of it. Tapping into all of the details comes easier and tapping into memories comes easier because of practicing meditation.
So when my dad started to be in the hospital in 2023, and I started making the drive all the way from Newark to Antioch just to spend 2 hours or so with him at a time, nearly every possible weekend, my body started to remember the details. The drive, the music, the doors I entered to get into his room, the hallways and smells.
His first surgery was in January and everything was going well, and then comes February and things started to slowly crumble. Every visit I made, I saw my dad's body go more and more. I saw his spirit latch on and try but his body just couldn't hang on. I saw his eyes go in pain and sorrow. And this is when I started to tell my Dad how special I was. And how I can help heal him. It would work, and then something again would happen. Not to mention something would almost happen to me as well, telling me that something more was going on with my dad spiritually.
Every visit I tried to keep his spirits up. And every visit, he just kept telling us he was done. And we just kept fighting for more. To see your dad go and how his eyes were the only way to talk to you, and how you just knew we were at the end. It was hard. It hurt. It took my every being to continue. It truly was showing me how the eyes are he windows for your spirit.
It was sometime after my dad passed, possibly a week after or a couple of days after, where I had gone to meditate to just try and center. I hadn't had time to really process everything so I've been meditating often to process everything. Usually when I meditate, I go somewhere and I trust whatever is happening. This time though, my meditation took me to my dad's hospital where we said good bye. I walked down the empty hallways that I became so familiar with, turned left and into room 212. What normally would be the old vision of my dad in his hospital bed, turned into a bright empty room. Nothing inside. And there stood my dad, the way I remembered him in his jeans, white shoes, and green polo, and green cardigan with your warriors hat. I ran to him crying both physically and mentally as I was in the meditation. Remembering how your arms felt and recalling every detail of previous moments of our hugs. You explained that you were okay and better. Not in pain anymore, so there wasn't anything I needed to cry about. You told me to tell mom that you were okay and that you'd see her again soon. That was the defining moment I needed. To embrace the new change of a life without you. You telling me that you're okay and everything is okay.
I would continue to see you in my meditations, but slowly less and less and only when you knew I needed it, because I was moving forward. Embracing the grief and processing the next chapter. But I don't regret remembering every detail of memories. I enjoy tapping into those details of how the air felt, what song I was listening to, and how everything was.
It took a year and a half to realize what was happening to me energetically. How it affected my work, my identity for a long time. And then when I finally figured it out, the universe delivered on things I had been requesting.
Life truly is different when your awareness and your spirit is awakened to how everything is connected. Being able to tap into all of the past, present, and future when meditating is powerful. And I think that is why I like taking people through meditations.
Just imagine what you can do if you only knew yourself and your spirit more.
To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. - Winston Churchill
If a nation loses its storytellers, it loses its childhood. - Peter Handke
It is better to stay silent and be thought a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt. - Abraham Lincoln
“Sometimes, Grace throws you and your ‘world’ into the washing machine, full spin, so that the fearful and controlling tendency is compelled to offer itself to the Totality—to the will and dance of the Cosmos.”
Mooji
“Of course, when you allow yourself to feel any emotion you’ve been avoiding, it probably won’t feel good. But you can handle that, because you’re not a child any longer. The emotions may feel dangerous, but they aren’t. You’re an adult, and you can love yourself through it. You can do hard things! And if it feels too scary and you want support, no shame, no blame. You can always find the support you need to help you do hard things.”
