i always get a littl sad when people collect coins just to make money off of like,,, im in this nimismatic discord server and someone was excited they got a morgan dollar, one of the most iconic us coins, and people started trashing on em sayin the year on it was the most common year so it wasnt worth anything
youre no fun!! let people be excited about their collection!!
anyway im starting a collection just for dr sally ride and dr vera rubin quarters bc i think theyre neat and im majoring in astrophysics
The past few days have not been great, so I can only manage a basic vector drawing right now. I don't have many experiences of trans joy, but I wanted to share where I'm at with the process.
To anyone else struggling, know that you aren't alone. Hang in there, we'll be free to be ourselves one day.
1876 seated liberty half dollar (with a hole through it)
Why do/did people punch holes in their coins? Lots of reasons!
They could have worn it as jewelry (I love coin jewelry, I have several pieces that I wear regularly)
Maybe they tied their coins together with othes to make sure they don't get lost
Sometimes coins were used as makeshift buttons for clothes (those will usually have 2 or 4 holes near the center, unlike this one)
I've seen pennies made into washers for manufacturing/hardware stuff, but idk how common that actually is.
Holes will obviously damage numismatic value, but personally, I don't really care that much.
Having a piece of history that people touched and used in their everyday life is part of the alure of coin collecting to me, so I love coins that are a little beat up.
This half dollar is a small connection that I can share with someone who lived over 140 years ago, and I think that's neat.
A comic explaining the internet phenomenon… why are so many Bionicle fans trans? 🏳️⚧️ Happy Bionicle Day!
I have a capped liberty half dollar that was minted in 1825. Out of my entire collection, it's one of my favourites and not just because it's old and somewhat rare.
There's some graffiti on this coin, which will lower it's collector's value, but that's okay. I have no intention to sell it any time soon.
Someone carved 'M x C' on the left and the year 1836 on the right.
I imagine M and C were the first initials for two lovers and 1836 was an important year for them. Perhaps it was the year they met or got married. But I'll never truly know the full story behind those carvings.
The reason this is one of my favourites is that it meant something to someone. It's a piece of someone's personal history and it ended up in my care.
I don't know who M or C was, but I hope they had a wonderful life together.
Getting treated for ADHD was probably the single most positive change in my life. I've been medicated for almost 2 years and I'm a totally different person now.
I started taking my health seriously.
I have actual hobbies and enjoy doing things. (Gardening, coin collecting and making jewelry)
I have goals and aspirations.
I came out as trans to my fiance and started hrt.
I don't know where I would be without it, but it certainly isn't here. I encourage people to talk to a counselor/psychiatrist if they have the slightest little feeling they might have some ND condition.
