Experience the interior lives of inanimate objects—as interpreted by cartoonist Liana Finck—via The New Yorker Today app.
The NewYorker presents AR features by recognising the real objects as target image, which is absolutely incredable. The program has to first recognise a familiar image target to augment the space. This example shows that any real object can be augmented
Successful and struggling development of the app using Unity with Vuforia project development. Build settings set to ios Device. The documents were created to use for xCode program. Once opened in xCode, solve all the errors, set device to iPhone Portrait mode. I had troubles while creating, and thanks to my classmate Costas, i followed his advice. In the project library, find document info.plist, add to the list a raw - Privacy - Camera Usage Description. The augmentation works well, now the plan is to add music to Unity project and film the process!!
Vogue advanced digital magazine layout. Interactive features and great use of negative space
The Typical and most common digital magazine layout is as default used on the Apple Bookshelf app. The articles are presented in a way of web page articles - scrolled down to read more and featuring graphical elements in pictures and images. This type of layout, in my opinion, has a pleasurable reading experience. The text size adjusts according to platform size. The personality of the brand retained by font decision and imagery. In this example of Rolling Stone latest issue perchaised from the official app, the articles are easily percieved by the user, but it senses lack of style compared to the printed layout. The lack of running head, folie and byline affects the Rolling Stone digital magazine. As the layout structure is the same with other magazines destriputed on Apple store Bookshelf platform, it is hard to be original and creative in digital layout.
The Dazed digital magazine purchased from the official Dazed magazine app shows a simplier approach to digital layout. It is same as AnOther magazine - a pdf version of the printed layout. It has a scroll feature, zoom in and a page flipping feature. However, the page takes a second to load and the only vieweving format is single page at a time. Undortunately, there is lack of interaction. I personately experienced a poor UX development in this version of digital magazine.
Digital magazine issue: how to browse.
The layout of the page is the same as the printed magazine issue, the identical PDF layout was played very smart in the digital iPhone app representation. The User Experience minimized the risk of public disaproval. The format is familiar - images and layout are presented in a stylistic way and text can be simly zoomed in if necessary.
The first UX/UI feature greately integrated was the slide for quickly viewing the pages on a row. This feature saves a great amount of time while going through the fist Advertisement cover pages, giving the most similar feeling of flipping through the pages.
The other advancement in the UX part a flip of the page to another, it can be done by draging the page to the left or simply tap on the arrow icon. The magazine can be seen both as single page and as a spred.
The very first print example of my magazine. I placed my work next to a ruller to represent the measurment of the mini magazine. I have printed in UAL Print Lab with help of ual employees.
The big dissapointement was the colors; some pages did not match the digital color palette, most of them were extremely dark and orange, which changed the whole perception of the magazine. I have carefully selected colors to convey the fluidity of pages and consistancy.
However, printing the first time was more of an experimentation : after i have detected the small fonts, text extending the page surface and undesirable images. The print version showed me my design flaws so i was able to improve it
Development of the Cover of the Magazine with graphical elements and special color palette
We collaborated with Conde Nast’s W Magazine and fashion photographer, Steven Klein to create a dynamic Augmented Reality Experience for W’s September 2017 i...
During my MA Masters project presentation to MA FMP students from year one, I have received a comment describing the W magazine cover with Kety Perry that has AR features. The video represents a work of The Mill studio for W’s September 2017 issue, depicting a printed version of the issue and the AR video edits, presenting interactive content and immersive video experience. In this one minute long video, we see how the app scans the page of the magazine and then shows video content. I was absolutely surprised seeing something so similar to my project production (how the static photo transforms into the video), and so glad to see it beautifully done by my favorite creative digital studio.
My primary research 10 question quiz showed important results in the last question with an open response. I have collected all the answers, analyzed the potential target customer, keeping in mind all 10 answers to my questions (the rest of the questionnaire will be present in the written work). Here are the organized answers, as you can see, most are positive and curious; however there are some no’s and interesting advice. The received feedback pushed me into working cautiously on my magazine project, influenced the video content in the magazine.
The other examples show that the text-based page might have fewer chances to be properly recognized by the Vuforia software in Unity program. The second page has text slowly appearing on the page, but the glitches are noticeable and draw the attention
This video represents the development of the layout inDesign document with spreads at the beginning of the magazine, as later we see the Unity project trial of the mac simulator. The new trial shows that reflecting video content on the print surface is more reliable when each page is a separate video file. the pages are allowed to bend, turn and close.
Some active spreads screenshoots from inDesign The Shining magazine file
Currently working on inDesign file simultaniously with Premiere Pro to edit a page spread into a video. The inDesign file is missing last article about Horoscopes and final touches: rewhrite some articles, work on the app page and The Cover.
