Nurse Packard took in the pitiful display before her. Oh, dear. I wonder how she lasted in here this long. Still, she does brighten up the place a bit. Lynn flashed a rare, genuine smile.

But, the smile faded as quickly as it appeared.

“A word of advice, Jameson, do not ever show these patients any vulnerability. Be it wearing a silly costume or promising to do a simple favor, if they know about your weaknesses, they will eat you alive. They will take advantage of you, and they will break you down. Do you understand, Jameson?”

Maya looked up when she saw the head nurse standing there, of course things could only get worse. She listened intently, straightening up and pulling off her hat swiftly to try hide herself from further embarrassment. “Understood, I apologise Miss” Maya said with a quick nod “I just…like to brighten things up”

“Hm? No, I don’t really need anything. I was just a bit curious about what you’re wearing.”

“It’s a costume, a rag doll” Maya tried to explain, though she just felt a bit stupid “I know it was a strange idea, but everyone seems so gloomy constantly I thought it was the least I can do”

Todd placed a hand over his mouth in attempts to muffle his giggles. He’d actually approached the nurse with something serious in mind. But this. This was so much more entertaining. ❝Totally not unprofessional.❞ He managed to say between bursts of laughter, ❝It’s cute.❞

“Just wanted to brighten things up a little” Maya said, taking off her hat she turned to him with her more serious nurse-look “Did you need anything?”

“I just thought it might cheer everyone up a bit, but they now think I’m unprofessional....anyway, did you need something?”

“I, uh, just came to drop off some paperwork. I’m one of the interns here. Uh, Axel. Axel Dumais.”

“No problem, they did tell me I just uh..I’m a scatterbrain recently. Thank you, I’ll put these away in the right places. Nice to meet you Axel, I’m Maya”

“I’m sorry, did I come in at a bad time…?”

“No no, it’s fine. Sorry I was just sorting some files out. Can I help you?”

Colleen spread her hands to indicate she liked everything. Returning the smile, she took in the nurse. The woman seemed kind and welcoming, and she appreciated that.

“You’re welcome to look at the bookcase in my office anytime, there might be a few different ones in there” Maya offered, hoping it could make the girl feel at ease. She didn’t mind patients borrowing books from her office or wanting to borrow the plush toys so long as the items weren’t damaged and depending on their privileges.

Colleen nodded and closed the book, placing it on the floor next to her. She enjoyed all books, and was thankful the library here was well stocked. Deciding on standing to talk to the nurse, she picked up her book and stood up.

Maya smiled softly at the girl, she wanted to put the patients at ease and not have them be afraid of her. “I need to get back into reading myself. What kind of books do you like?”

Constantin had sat in the hall after seeing his roommate in a very compromising position. Any other man would’ve jumped on it, but when you were as depressed as he was, it wasn’t something you were interested in. Looking up as he heard a voice, a sigh escaped his lips, “Nothing I haven’t dealt with and overcome before.”

“Something wrong?” Maya asked, putting her hands in her coat pocket “The corridor isnt the best place, there’s more comfortable seating in the rec room or in the library”

Colleen was sitting on the floor of the hallway, absorbed in a book. She jumped at the others greeting, but smiled in response to the question.

Maya smiled softly back at her, looking to the book she was reading. “I’m assuming that you enjoy the library here?” she said

Maya really like she’d been thrown in at the deep end with her new job. Rolling her eyes slightly at the lack of instructions she’d been given, only told just to help people when they needed it, she decided to walk out in the corridor to see if there was anyone who might need her help. She turned to a person who she saw was sat in the corridor “Hey there, are you doing okay?”
