I don't get why my patients are surprised about their meals

They pick them the day before! But yet every single time the tray comes, they open the cloche and act as if they had no idea it would be a fucking cabbage roll or whatever the hell they circled on their papers

I haven't put an IV in, in about 8 months...

And I got one in a renal failure pt, with good back flow of blood. FINALLY I GET TO PUT IN AN IV. Pts in the ICU always have PICCs or CVCs so getting an IV in just feels awesome.

I miss the med-surg floor for this reason. Poking people with needles. :)

It does not matter how shitty a shift you have. If you get an IV in someone, even with veins as big as rivers, you feel damn good about yourself. As you should.

I hate how the media romanticizes CPR...

The only thing beautiful about CPR is watching a good team work flawlessly together like a well oiled machine. There is nothing beautiful about pounding on a chest, slamming drugs in to veins, and intubating patients. Sometimes I wish families could see what “do everything” means before they ask for it….

I keep saying that we need a video of a REAL code, to show families before they make the decision to make their 85 year old father with end-stage COPD a full code

98 year old patient who eats only ice cream, chocolate bars and cookies, and drinks chocolate milk and 1 prn beer daily, who has her fingernails painted q2days by her granddaughter. Today, each nail is a different colour. This woman is doing it right!

I wanted candy today, but I didn't want to eat too much, so I bought some and brought it to rounds with the other disciplines (MDs, OT, PT, SW, nutrition, Rec therapy, RT etc). I put it on the table and said help yourself everyone. I opened the bags and started eating. Noone had any. Not one piece. Rounds finished and they all left. I called the nurses and was like, hey guys I bought candy. I went down the hall to answer a question. When I came back there was a swarm of nurses just chowing down. This is why I'm a nurse
